Just bought picrel. What should I expect?

Forced ATB when the previous game wasn't ATB at all.
>>
A good time.

Hallways and some of the most obnoxious side activities ever in a Final Fantasy. Maybe FF7 Rebirth's or Gran Pulse are worse. I'd rather farm Tournesol materials than Blitzball or jump lightning.
Also Auron. Still a badass to this day.

juvenile and cringeworthy writing, awkward pauses between voice lines which are themselves often poorly delivered, low quality animations that couldnt fit the scope of the project, generic monster designs, straight line corridor levels, random encounters, a combat system that's decent but nothing special, and an army of angry nerd defenders shouting at you if you ever dare to criticise it.
>>
>>722571440
Because Tidus is an extremely fuckable twink, it's just a shame his voice is whiny and he wears retarded dungarees that tank his sex appeal.

It's funny how we'll never get over Final Fantasy, even as Square fades into obscurity. It's in our DNA.
>>
>>722571794
Square should release some crazy big game where all their hopes are pinned on it to be successful. They can call it Last Dream.

Legitimate kino, with X being arguably one of the best JRPGs of all time and X-2 being a fun romp with some cool battle ideas
X is very close to a perfect game
Amazing art direction, a good story with a good cast of characters, lots of optional content that can easily extend your playtime past 100 hours, very catchy and memorable music, and a simple but effective battle system that makes every character feel useful (except Kimahri unless you’re playing with the free sphere grid)
X-2 is incredibly customizable with its job system, but the story is hit or miss for a lot of people because X didn’t really need a sequel or expanded lore
Still worth a playthrough though, as the title music alone is probably the best song in all of FF
Just don’t expect to 100% the game without a guide because X-2 has more missable content than a Tales game

the absolute worst way to experience FFX since the graphics are worse than the PS2 version
>>
>>722572226
I find that with mods it's a good middleground if you want the game to properly render in HD. Scaling it up in an emulator still produces annoying visual bugs.
>>
It's really baffling how they fucked with FFX Remaster.
But it's either that or dusting off a PS2. A long lost tech from another aeon.
>>
>>722571562
The left image is running on an emulator. Fucking disingenuous.
>>
>>722571248
You at least should expect a good rpg and good music
>>
You'll probably still have a good time with the remaster, it's objectively worse than the original but at least you will definitely get International edition content. The graphics can be mostly overlooked.

The biggest issue with the remaster if on PC is cutscenes randomly greenscreening, you may have your immersion destroyed due to bad optimization, so be ready to watch clips on youtube if you're seeing that problem.
>>

Meg Ryan HA HA HA ing.
>>
>>722572629
It doesn't matter if the left has half the visual clarity, the art direction is so obviously better.

Not the point, nigger.
The 3D models, textures and lighting are all wrong, because Square lost the OG assets and had to redo everything... by outsourcing the entire project.

Tidus filters plebs. He's a great viewpoint character that is naive and learns along the way with the player, he isn't generic brooding shonen guy with deep insight all of the time, that's Auron. Tidus is a dickhead and that's fine, his character development is well paced and makes the adventure feel purposeful.
>>
>>722573328
Tidus is fine, I just hate his shorts.
>>
>>722573328
Something about his weapon and style made me hate him his personality was fine
>>
>>722572806
>because Square lost the OG assets and had to redo everything
I doubt they lost the assets. The only character models that were altered are the playable characters so that is telling me that they redid them deliberately to "improve" them since this was a remaster. If they really lost the OG assets I would have expected them to redo everything.
>>
>>722573961
There is this ongoing 50:50 urban legend/actual fact that Square lost/didn't properly storage most assets of even source code of their old games.
So it happens that re-releases of their old games like FF8, 9 or whatever are partially made like a Frankenstein trying to redo their architecture based on other references or available resources (like PC ports that had differences from the PSX version).
If that happened to FFX and to what degree I honesly lack the knowledge to answer. But it sure feels like it was another victim.
For all we know they almost literally confirmed it happened to FFT when making promo events for Ivalice Chronicles.

>>722574183
No, it comes from the fact that MANY Japanese studios literally ditched their dev files away after they were done with the projects, as the idea of future kids wanting to play some PS2 era retro games on their PS6 at Ultra HD was not even something folks took into consideration.

Konami and Capcom, and their hastily put-together HD ports of SH2-3 and REmake 1 are prime examples of this, with the latter having cheaply Photoshop touched up backgrounds. Meanwhile, RE0's files were discovered, and all the FMVs and backgrounds were re-rendered at ultra HD quality.

X is a great game. Good music, good narrative, good characters. The art direction is a bit weird but I like it. The combat is a return to the traditional non ATB system which wasn't tried for a decade at this point. No grinding required for the main story but I had to grind a lot for the side content. The game doesn't have a class/job system so all characters can learn all skills except summons for story reasons.
X-2 has terrible music (except the main theme), a structure more similar to Crisis Core and a worse story that feels like an extended epilogue to X. The combat is good though. It's the best implementation of ATB and the job system in the series.
The remastered versions have made some controversial choices like "upgrading" all the playable characters' 3D models and cropping all the pre-rendered cutscenes to fit in a 16:9 display. They come with some good stuff though like all the content from the International versions, the choice between the original midi soundtrack or a remade soundtrack with good VSTs and real instruments and (exclusively on PC) high framerates and dual audio if you prefer the Japanese voices (although the English voices aren't bad imo).

Played it for the first time a couple of weeks ago. It's insanely good. Had I played it when it came out it would have been my favorite game probably by now.

I remember when it launched and I considered buying it but chose not to because I hated FF9 after the brilliant FF8.

I'm also one of those weirdos that liked FF13 trilogy when it came out.

Cant believe most of the game was written and designed in fucking 1999. I'm replaying a lot of my childhood favs from the 90s and 00s and FF10 despite me never having played it back then is seriously among its best
>>
>>722571841

I got that disc somehow and I never played it because literally thought that game was too gay.
Only came around of giving it a chance during the pandemic and gameplay-wise it really slaps. But the rest... you said it.
I don't even know what was the artistic direction they wanted with that one. Today I know more about that idol crap japs are/were obsessed with, but still.
>>
>>722572620

The stable build of PCSX2 is at version 2.4 now. The vertical lines and UI artifacts that were everywhere before 1.7 that required you to enable GPU hacks are gone from most games.

Development has been very fast ever since they ditched the plugin system and integrated everything into the main branch.
Report the issue to their github page along with screenshots, your settings and system specs and I expect a fast fix. Also the issue might be already fixed in one of the nightly builds.

>>722575672
Probably, it was a couple years ago.

It's considered one of the best games of all time together with ocarina of time. It's the best JRPG of all time, even the E33 guys said that E33 is only standing in the shadow of FFX.

It's kind of bizarre how younger generations will play things like metaphor but never experience FFX despite it being a better game even if it released nowadays in 2025.

Retard
>>
>>722575946
I think anon is talking about the transition from X to X-2.
>>
>>722576004
I don't know if the encounter rate is different depending on the area or if I was just unlucky but some areas in X-2 were really tedious to get through due to frequency of the encounters.
>>
>>722576217
I have no idea why there were battles in the fucking city
>>
The HD remake on PC removed all random encounters and improved the experience a ton. The issue I had with random encounters in the original was that it broke up the soundtrack and emotional moments. On a replay with random encounters turned off the story beats hit way harder.

I feel like square wanted to not have the random encounters but added them back in at the last moment as it was too much of a departure and risk at the time. Even though eventually it became the industry standard to not have random encounters.

The original also has the inability to skip cutscenes and if you need to redo side content you sometimes have to sit through 5 minute long cutscenes again and again which sucks dick. It was normal back then but baffling by 2025 standards.

HD remake main story can be experienced in about 15 hours if you turn off random encounters, cancel aeon animations and skip battle animations, which is the best way to experience the game by far.
