I'm about to drop a few hundred bucks on Warhammer. Any video games that satisfy the same craving without going broke?
>>

Drop a few hundred bucks on a dinky 3d printer instead
>>
Spend 20 bux on tabletop simulator and not pay games workshop a single cent
>>
>>722582878
Do this >>722583453 or just buy used minis under ten dollars.
>>
I like skirmish games instead of army battles:

Mordheim: City of the Damned
Battle Brothers
Warhammer: Chaos Gate

You could try Battlesector or Dawn of War 1 if you want big 40K.

Plenty. Rogue Trader for starters, Space Marine 1 and 2, Dawn of War 1 and 2, Total War Warhammer, Vermintide 2, Darktide, Mechanicus,

I got Tabletop Simulator this Steam Sale only to realize I only know how to play Uno and Monopoly. And also that the games aren't coded to work and that you have to move all the pieces and follow the rules yourself.
>>
>>722585683
i've only ever found frustration and jank when trying to play it in any way.
>>
>>722582878
Cant you just buy a 3d printer for less?
>>
>>722585760
I didn't play around much, but from the Uno lobby I joined (where they almost kicked me for not wanting to join their discord), the controls were fine, just draggin and dropping cards at least, idk how a bigger game would work or how tiring it'd get.

Get yourself a Kill Team first to figure out if you even like playing Tabletop games like this
The starter set is dirt cheap, especially if you go on whaterver second-hand site you have locally, I got my Plague Marine sprue for 15 bucks. If you manage to wrap your head around the rules and you feel like you might be into it, by all means move on to bighammer, but don't start out with dropping 500-800 bucks on 2000 points of an army only to realize you don't enjoy it.

Oh no no. Warhammer sissies, it seems like gaysworkshop has learned from Apple brand of marketing economics and ripping off customers. This is what you used to get in a starter set in the old times.
>>
>>722585760
TTS is like learning any other software like blender or excel, once you get used to it and use the shortcut keys and modify some settings it becomes really good to handle yourself.
>>
>>722582878
>starter set with a featureless dirt mat instead of terrain
>mat is barely even big enough to fit all the units
How the mighty have fallen
>>
>>722585683
People can and have set up scripting for stuff like setup, but the game is still a sandbox at the end of the day, you have to enforce rules yourself.
>>
Go in store ask for ademo
>>
Battlesector is the closest you get to Warhammer 40k in a video game.

I just looked up the price, it was 35 Pounds in 1993, that's about 76 British pounds today, or 102 USD. Pretty good deal, but all the terrain is cardboard and the minis look like ass
>>
>>722582878
Alternative. Instead of going all in on the game, just buy a box or two of minis and invest in a nice painting setup (brushes, paints, etc). Painting those little fuckers is a fun way to kill some time.
>>
>>722582878
buy a 3d printer
>>
>>722586640
For that price point its still good value compared to what Gayworkshop is pushing out today.
>>
>>722582878
I've noticed Wargamers and other-kinds-of-board gamers never mix together, why is that?
>>
>>722587201
They do, wargamers are just the loud minority in the hobby gaming space.

If i have the rulebooks, but dont want to spend money on official figs(sorry, painting doesn't interest me) nor do i have access to a 3D printer, can i still enjoy the main experience playing with a friend by just using home made paper cut outs/tokens like old school, pre D&D table top war games, or maybe even using random little action figures as stand-ins? The figures themselves have no stat stuff on them like Hero Clix, correct?
>>
>>722587382
W40K works on the function of WYSIWYG or what you see is what you get. If your unit has such and such on the model they get to attack with that weapon.
>>
Buy a 3d printer retard
>>
Get a killteam starter kit instead. Way easier to start a game. With proper 2k point armies people now prefer it takes fuckloads of time to even setup a game.

And DON'T buy GW paints. Go with Vallejo from the start.
>>
>>722587382
> nor do i have access to a 3D printer
You can find people to print minis for you on etsy
>>
>>722582878
Go buy the OG Dawn of War or the Definitive Edition, install any big mod like Ultimate Apocalypse and simply enjoy it.
>>
>>722587201
They do but you'll mostly notice that a local game store stocks WH material because it moves units and keeps the store in business.
Sunk cost makes the obnoxious ones double and triple down on this specific facet of the hobby, but most people who play are willing to play most games. Not everyone is an insufferable faggot about it, but thats usually something you can tell immediately when you are in the same room as one.
>>
>>722587382
If you don't like assembling/kitbashing/converting/sculpting/painting there is no point at all. Game is an afterthought, it's a creative hobby, not consumerist one
>>722582878
Modding and Blender
>>
>>722587559
So in theory, if i just printed out pictures of different units and gave them little plastic stands like cheap-ass board game player pieces, i would be covering the main purpose of the models beyond their coolness factor?
>>
>>722585683
Wow just like real life. Retard
>>
>>722587845
There's also physical dimensions you have to consider since if the unit can see the other unit its able to target the other unit especially for larger units. Some people have made some papercraft minis because of this.
>>
>>722587382
If you want to just play like that, I would recommend adventure wargames like 5 Parsecs From Home over Warhammer.
>>
>>722588005
What's the point of playing board games in a PC if the computer is not going to make it any easier?
>>
>>722587808
I suppose. I like playing old big box shelf war games and D&D and i enjoy the WH4K setting from what I've played in Space Hulk and the other board game spin offs and vidya, but the price points to get the actual models turns me off. I guess i will pursue the 3D printing option.
>>
>>722582878
I find XCOM 2 to be a better version of warhammer games
>>
>>722588202
You dont need to dedicate an entire closet to storing the pieces.

This. You can also play multiple faction teams instead of being stuck with one army.
>>
>>722586461
Nearest GW store is several hundred kilometres away. Even generic hobby store requires a day of travel to get there and back.
>>722586667
That was my plan. Just a couple of miniature boxes, paint, and everything else you need easily costs a couple hundred bucks with delivery.
>>
kill teams dogshit.
