are the truck simulator games fun?
>>
>download latest ATS
>choose to start off essentially from a Loves outside Sulphur Springs, cool, been too long to remember how accurate it looks
>truck has like 17 gears
It was an impulse download like most things so I wasnt hard filtered just lost interest as a pick me up. Like most vehicle sim games its great in theory, just have to be in the mood and it would be awesome.

>truck simulator games fun
I don't even know why you fags asks subjective questions, if you want to know if something is fun for you, you should try it by yourself
>>
>>722585175
I wouldn't say fun, it's more cathartic than anything
there was a period where I would set my wheel up every night simply to play ATS for an hour or two to chill out before bed
>>
i tried playing a couple times but it just makes me really sleepy
i dont get why its so popular
>>
The DLC is too expensive but I'm too lazy to pirate. I only want it for the Japan mod anyhow.
>>
>>722588706
>road
>road, Japan
U faggots should kill yourselves.
>>
>>722585175
They were, but i hate some of the changes they've made over the years. Nighttime is way too bright now, and the game stopped working on my system randomly so I can't even play it anyway now. Heard they STILL never added dirt physics or working truck washes, either. They've been saying they will for years.
>>
>>722585850
I'll redownload ATS like once a year for a week and realize I want a roadtrip sim more than I do a truck sim
>>
>>722592216
You can basically do that. Just get the smallest truck you can, don't do a haul with a trailer, and just cruise around.
>>
>>722591001
It's
>road, Bosnia
>road, Japan
actually.
>>
If you haven't been keeping up with each new state at time of release and doing the time-limited events you're basically missing so much content it's ridiculous. You can never get the items unless you now pay extra on the Steam marketplace.

They are working on a, I guess you could call it a road trip dlc with cars so you can drive around in a Ford or Dodge/Ram with some cool options to choose from
>>
>>722585175
Absolutely.
I actually ended up getting a wheel, shifter, and pedals because of truck sim and that’s introduced me to other great driving sims like dirt rally 2, assetto cross, and beam ng. I even got trackir for headtracking, which I still use for flight simulators as well. I highly suggest anyone who has a good gaming pc to get into driving games. It’s such a niche and untouched genre.

Kinda crazy how I actually learned how to drive stick shift through driving sims like beam ng

It’s such a shame you can’t shift individual gears properly in this game. It’s essentially gta 5 driving with mud physics, boring ass driving game with eye candy.

With that setup you can play some very kino space sims and flying sims too. It’s not just driving

they're ok but you have to have a certain mindset. trucking in real life is mind numbingly boring, and this game is true to that at least. the game's map is also pretty close to real life, like there are truck stops in the game that are modeled after real life american truckstops, and that's kinda cool for someone who has actually gotten behind the wheel before.

it's nice but it's the kind of thing you do when you want to keep your hands busy while you concentrate on something else, like listening to a 2 goddamn hour long analysis of your favorite vidya by some no-name youtuber or whatever.

also, it's interesting that the game's simulation is accurate enough that I think people could use it to learn how to drive a truck for realsies so if you want to actually get behind the wheel, then I'd say if nothing else it's a good study guide for certain things like learning how to back a trailer. (before you say that's ridiculous, there are real life companies that make you use a simulator similar to this in order to even qualify for employment, to demonstrate that you know what to do while behind the wheel)
>>
>>722595985
this looks a bit comfy not gonna lie
>>
>>722585175
Why do people play this shit? If you enjoy trucking so much, then quit your job and become a trucker.
>>
>>722585175
We don't use the word "fun".
Seriously, they're games where you throw on a podcast or a YouTube video and you have a controller or a wheel in your hands and minimal interactivity so you're not just sitting there watching your screen like a lead-paint addled boomer zombie.

I stand by what I said. If you wait for one of the very common sales, the season price goes down to 4 or 5 bucks each. And each of those seasons gives you (depending on your skill) a solid 50 hours to complete it.

I agree with the livery and truck only DLCs, those are horseshit. Other than that I have about 400 hours into the game and I bought 4 seasons total.

ETS2 is god tier when they don’t close off a fucking ramp for a traffic accident and make you travel an hour off route to make a uturn, get back to the same overpass, and have the other off-ramp blocked off by another accident

For me? It's cruising around in the Crew 2. It's not a sim game but I think it's fun to explore the 5000km^2 map and take it all in.

Turn off the UI and also turn off the UI sounds. When you are exploring the open world, there is this annoying "live rewards" sound that means you are near a (useless) reward crate, just know you can turn that sound off in the menu, and that's it. Just cruise and enjoy.

anyway no I wouldn't call them fun, not in the traditional dopamine-reward sense. as anons said they're more like a 'zone out and listen to music/podcasts/dude weed lmao' type thing. personally I find ETS2 way more interesting because Europe is strange and foreign and there's constant switch-ups in geography, road signage, speed limits, city layouts, detour types, even just road junctions (clovers vs roundabouts etc), but the drawback is that there's wildly varying quality for the world itself and the UK is really fucking bad and so is half the mainland but the addons are all pretty neat. ATS is a lot of flat desert and long, long straightaways since that's what the American southwest and midwest tend to be like IRL and since it's all the contiguous US, there's no "oh fuck I forgot Polslovaklandia has an unmarked 50km/h limit in towns and got jump scared by a 2000 euro fine popup" or the super-big bridges in Scandinavia and shit. overall there are a lot of inaccuracies and flaws and mistakes and bugs that you notice after a while (recently i've been unable to un-notice the billboard sprite trees and the starts showing up over clouds instead of outside at night) but until and between them it's pretty comfy. especially at night and in storms. this post was not paid for by SCS, who can go to HELL since they got rid of individual map packs
>why don't you just drive a truck for real?
because i don't live in europe, silly, and the process isn't as easy as walking in and saying "hire me" unless you're a poor immigrant who speaks no English

Game came out in 2015 but you basically need an RX 6000 to run it now. It was fine for me for years but all the new states are so graphically heavy it cuts the FPS by half. Disappointing since the engine is from like 2010.

>>722608810
no yeah I get it, and I do keep a couple of the 700hp Volvos and shit for silly "haha I'm using ALL the gears" ass-hauling, just different strokes for different folks and all. The Road Trip thing for ATS interests me mostly because I'm worried about how they'll handle rigid-body cars and especially ones with a solid axle like the Crown Vic, since one of the aforementioned flaws is that all the trucks have IRS which is IIRC almost unheard of for trailer-haulers. Mostly I just wanna see that comfy Ford green interior croozing through the desert.

>>722609135
That's exactly why it runs so shit half the time, it's an old engine that can't make use of modern hardware. It doesn't even have multithreading and on the graphics side of things, it's some unholy kludgery now that's still 2010 underneath with modern temporal anti aliasing and dithering (HOW I HATE DITHERING) added on top. That said, it does scale down well- or at least ETS does- so it'll run at native res on an ancient 1060.
>>
>>722608991
that's boring, he's just following a narrow road, from third person no less. the driving academy shit they've added with double reverse parking and all is ball-busting
>>
>>722599719
It did for the first 4 years of the game. It was just California (half desert), Nevada, Arizona, and New Mexico (all desert). It was boring af and the map was in an L shape so you had to keep going over the same highways back and forth. It's better now, but now they're in the Great Plains and it's nothing but endless cornfields now.
>>
>>722605654
You can turn that off in settings, anon...

>>722610223
how the hell are they gonna do the east coast and its cities and roads at that scale? the whole region is like the benelux part of europe. if they use a trucking game to show "two streets of new york and pittsburgh" and two empty highways leading to them rather than ignoring the fucking cities all the other games have done and actually having you drive to all the industry AROUND them, i'll be very disappointed

They probably won't even put NYC in the game, or it'll just be some shipping yards on the outskirts. It's like with Texas, they didn't even include the Alamo because "trucks don't go there." I don't give a fuck about realism, I wanted to see the Alamo. It's the main attraction in Texas. So no, I don't expect to be driving through NYC or anything fun like that. Hell you can't even see the Eiffel Tower in Paris in ETS2. They won't let you drive down the Champs Elysee.

Snowrunner has a -50% sale on the base game every month for a week or so. So if you aren't in a hurry, check it out in a a few weeks.
Try not to instantly buy DLC trucks if you decide you like the game. The base game has a learning curve and steadily supplies you with tools, trucks and upgrades to overcome the challenges.
A lot of DLC trucks are an absolute overkill that diminish the base game challenges and leave you out of a learning experience that you WILL need in DLC maps.

Anon was kidding, but a lot of retards bemoan the lack of certain features in games, but are completely unable to justify what such a mechanic would feel like or even what the point would be.

See everyone who wants impregnation mechanics in wegs.
