In the case that a video game crash actually does happen, who rises from the ashes to save the video game industry? Nintendo did in the 80s, but I don't think it'll be them to do it this time.
indie devs
>>722585229Way too big to failPeople who think a crash can happen are delusionalIf vidya industry crashes it's because our entire society collapsed
it will be me, with my gorillion dollar game idea
>>722585229
>>722585229I'm not keeping track of who the big players are in the AA / triple i scene, but I assume one of them. Maybe Devolver Digital, or the Hades and Bastion guys? I don't know honestly. The AAA industry deserves to crash though, a game shouldn't have a budget in the hundreds of millions.
>>722585404so what you're saying is it's inevitable
>>722585229We've actively been in a crash my guy, every fucking week there's some news article about some studio going under. Like are we still waiting for like mainstream media to report on it or something? They aren't gonna do that cause line might go down and they don't want that given what's going on in the rest of the economy. Are you waiting for one of the big 3 to crash? Nintendo is basically secure even if a crash happens, whatever funds they had for "in case of emergency" purposes they at least doubled or tripled in the Switch Era, they could probably stop selling Switch 2's right now, just sell millions of copies of games on the current base alone like with the WiiU, and survive this generation just fine. Sony themselves have sold enough PS5's to do that already and Xbox gave up already.Of your waiting for a big crash from third parties you'll just see what Microsoft did or what Saudi Arabia did with EA and just buy studios and make them husks but keep the valuable IPThis is what a crash is in the modern sense, it might accelerate given the actual economy, but this is your crash
>>722585229Indies start to make way more because they charge less, and all AAA companies who refuse to drop prices die.
Sony sells their consoles at a loss, their movies are mostly box office flops like madame web, their TVs are selling like shit and they're only supported by their software sales (games)Nintendo is a videogame company first and foremost, take their games away and you end up with a theme park owning soon to go bankrupt companyThe answer therefore is KFC
I’ll do it
>>722585404I mostly agree with this anon. The vidya industry is too spread out across the world to really crash like it did before.Let's say KSA buying EA somehow leads to EA being dissolved, and just for fun let's also say that somehow causes Microsoft's whole gaming division, including ABK, to follow.Who cares? There are still a lot of studios throughout Europe and Asia who are going to keep making vidya. Not all of them are hooked into the same funding streams that EA or Microsoft are.
>>722585229AI.AI will save vidya from the left.
>>722587421By destroying it even further?
>>7225874212 MORE WEEKS SAAAAAR
>>722585229indie devs, modern AAA should collapse and we should go back to the times when most games were made by a handful of people with an actual vision and a team of 30 was considered needlessly large
PC and mobile devs will be largely unaffected by consoles crashing and burning. The industry will be largely floated by low and mid budget games if normalfags muscle themselves out. Endless advertising budgets can finally die.
>>722587931i'm fine with this, nearly all games that i enjoy fall into this categoryhowever, know that this would mean the end of 3d beyond about 6th gen (which is still a massive undertaking, but i know some games like ikaruga only had like 8 man teams)
>>722585229>Nintendo I wholeheartedly believe Nintendo is incapable of reverting back to any level of pro-consumer business modelIf the long overdue gaming crash ever did happen, gaming as we know it now would never returnBloodless corpos are too entrenched in the industry, gaming will either go all in on mobile, or you'll get starkly overpriced "mini" consoles. Nothing new, just paying to replay, but in new packaging. Worst part is, they'd probably sell half decently because that's just how conditioned modern consoomers are
>crashThe market is too big to crash again. Phone games cost almost nothing to produce, yet rake in millions and millions through MTX. The most "crash" that we will see, are AAA devs downsizing and not spending 500 gorillion on a single game anymore. Instead spending 100-200 gorillion.
>>722585229realistically the entire market niche would be filled by thousands of indie devs since they would be the least affected
>>722585229Where did you find this picture of me?
>>722589326>however, know that this would mean the end of 3d beyond about 6th genoh definitely, although imo even the few good modern AAA games would probably be better if they had limitations making them focus more on the core game instead of horse testicle simulation or whatever. 6th gen games and indies (basically all of which have graphics at a similar level; even more detailed and "realistic" stuff like the witness or outer wilds are pretty graphically primitive compared to current mainstream stuff) are more visually striking than 95% of current larger-scale games nowadays anyways. There's a reason loads of people (including myself so I'm majorly biased) think 6th gen was basically the best for games, the tech (and field) was advanced enough that there weren't serious limitations but gamedev was still just small enough for a lot of riskier projects to come out and prosper.
