Literally doing the "it was just a dream" retcon is funny and probably one of the better ways of salvaging the continuity after SR4 honestly, since they went crazy with it specifically because they believed it would be the last game the studio would make.
It's also interesting because it shows that Volition DID have the fans in mind (like they always did) but they were overruled.

To be fair SR4 was originally a standalone dlc for 3 that was due to be released like a month later, until THQ freaked out about the PS4 dev kits being out and ordering Volition to repurpose it as SR4, Volition was a based studio
