for you, what's the best silksong ost? do you think silksong (full) ost is better than the first hollow knight?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FTicXQYw2ts&list=RDGMEMQ1dJ7wXfLlqCjwV0xfSNbAVMFTicXQYw2ts&start_radio=1
>>
I was going to post choral chambers, i think it's my favorite track in the game, it's so fucking good
>>
I honestly can't remember a single track, except the choral chambers because it sounded way too much like something else but I couldn't remember what. Soundtrack is pretty generic overall.

this one is fucking FLAMES too though

greymoor theme is so beautiful. it reminds me of starks from GOT
>>
>>722596762
same, missing a lot of hard hitting tracks compared to hk, it's not bad but it's very... forgettable
truly quantity over quality in almost all aspects of the game
>>
>>722596934
the only track from the original hollow knight that i think silksong doesnt reach is nightmare king grimm's theme, it's just so fucking great
>>
>>722596497
i feel like 1 has more memorable tracks like city of tears, hornet, collector, and NKG's themes, but I dont actually like any of them all that much. Skong I barely remember any besides choral chambers but feel like I liked the OST better.
>>
>>722596497
Khann was a pushover, but his theme is real fucking good.
>>
Bilewater
>>
It's Widow'Sinner's theme for me, the fast tempo of the song really matches the pace of the fight. Really reminds me of the Mantis Lords, which was my favorite boss/OST combo from HK.
>>
>>722596497

For me it is -

1) Choral Chambers
2) Last Dive
3) Karmelita
4) Bilewater
5) Lace
6) Abyss Ascent
7) Lost Lace
8) Hunter's March
9) Cogwork's Core
10) High Halls

It is a strong fight between 1 and 2, Last Dive is just too powerful as it represents the culmination of Hornet's character. Choral Chambers however takes the throne as I was in that area more and thus it got exposure.
>>
>>722596497
choral chambers lost verdania mount fay and high halls are peak
and yeah it surpasses the first game
>>
>>722596497
>Bellhart
One of the best hub/town themes in any game for me, like it's up that with Majula and Village of Dali in how good it is.
https://youtu.be/vR2zqX7hijo?si=d3QbIyvXHzcMERgI
>High Halls
Probably the most underrated area OST in the entire game. The entire piece is just 3 instruments, but they harmonize together so beautifully.
https://youtu.be/4mA1mWrlanI?si=xhd0XGVW9Qwpf8EY
>Trobbio
Absolute peak Vilvaldi-core. One of the most fun boss themes to listen to in the entire game.

>>
>>722596762
Coral Chambers sounds like ‘Temple of Wendel’ from Visions of Mana
>>
Hollow Knight Bench song >>>>>> Silksong bench song
Dirtmouth >> Bone Bottom
Choral Chambers >> City of Tears
Hollow Knight has better melodies like White Lady and Resting Grounds, Silksong has more complex music.
>>
Boss theme: Karmelita
Area theme: Shellwood
>>
>>722599112
Silksong music is music nerd music. Hollow knight music is simpler, and as a result, more digestible for normies (which is a good thing)

Cant remember a single track. The music is not horrible, but if music has nothing memorable its worthless. Even the shittiest jrpg usually have 1 or 2 tracks that you can remember or hum but this one has none. Compared to HK the game is just really bad in all aspects. Should have just stayed a dlc for it..7 years for a dark souls 2 quality sequel.

Bellheart is great because you can chill and listen to it. My favorite ost in the game.
Trobbio is hard to hear and appreciate because of the constant explosions and TROBBIOING.
>>
>>722596497
i dont get why people love coral chambers so much
but i really like High Halls

>>722596497
Cog core, bottom part of the moss area, uhhh…
Also shellwood reminds me of made in abyss somehow.
>>
>>722596497
silksong's ost has lower lows than hollow knight's ost, but higher highs. much like the games themselves.

silksong really excells in boss themes they're fucking fantastic (cogwork dancers, widow, lace, strive, trobbio, sister splinter), but act 2 really ramped it up with the quality of the area music (bilewater, choral chambers, high halls, cogwork core).
>>
>>722603081 (me)
of and of course, lost verdania. best song in act 3.
>>
Man I just kept fucking dying to the last of the fat coral men in the third room of the coral tower gauntlet, every other one of them I could consistently kill while taking no damage, but I kept choking and dying to him at least a dozen times. When I finally got past him I somehow lost 4 masks and died to the final wave with 2 of the big blue floaters, my memory crystal killed it and I could hear Kahn shouting as I died, I was so fucking pissed. Cleared the whole tower on my next try though.

And it's used for an oversized trash mob. What the FUCK, Team Cherry?
>>
just the theme in bellheart. Don't remember much else not that it's bad music. I'm just more of a fan of nice pleasant ambient music, not boss themes.

The music for Shellwood too.
>>
>>722596497
It’s fine music but none of it stuck with me. Nothing compared to the Birthplace scene in the first game either.
>>
>>722596497
for ambience choral chambers is beautiful, but for a fight song I still prefer the radiance theme https://youtu.be/SkD5Ceo8KAo
>>
>>722596497
I don't think silksong's soundtrack is significantly worse than hk but it is worse. I also think that the audio is mixed worse in silksong and the music is too quiet contributing to this perception. Furthermore hornet being vocal also subtly makes the soundtrack worse by competing for air time but ultimately, even acknowledging this, I have no desire to turn off hornet noises.
>>
>>722596497
The only tracks I remember from Silksong are:
- Choral Chambers because it is very different
- Karmelita because it's good and intensifies along with the fight
- Cogwork's Core because it catchy and it fits
- Act 3 Bell bellhart becuase it managed to achieve that hopeless feeling
- Sherma's song
It has not been that long, but I already forgot about the rest of the Silksong ost, even the bench and the title screen. Meanwhile, for the original hollow knight its the opposite. There are a few that I cannot remember. Everything else I can.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_hM_Hp37By0
>>
>>722596497
>do you think silksong (full) ost is better than the first hollow knight?
Yeah. For one thing, the first is all MIDI and silksong is mostly live instruments.
>>
>>722596497
>for you, what's the best silksong ost?
Cogwork Core
Bilewater
Widow
Bonebottom

It's got good tracks but it doesn't feel like they're as thematically representative of their areas, like Hollow Knight. In Hollow Knight it felt like each track was tailor made for its areas, whereas Silksong has a lot more generalist tracks that could work in any zone.
>>
>>722596497
I think this is unanimously the best track of the game.
I love the rendition of the intro music during the escape sequence. Last Dive is amazing too. But I think those 2 songs are more iconic because of how they used it instead of the music being great by itself.

But overall I think Hollow Knight had a better soundtrack. City of Tears and White Palace (which is so good they remixed it on the Red Memory scene) are just perfect.
>>
>>722596497
cogwork core
I didn't care much for the rest, it kind of all blends together too much, I get that they were going for a recurrent theme to tie all together but it backfired imo
as for HK I liked dirtmouth track the most
>>
>>722596497
Bellhart is my favorite. Like the actual bells in the background.
>>
>>722609113
Yeah, it is good, but I do not feel it fits the place. That may be a huge contributor of why I struggle to remember the music. imo It is misused. The list I provided has the common denominator of being music that goes well with the place/character. Even though Silksong has higher quality in all fronts, it is often disconnected (or not connected enough) with what it is supposed to go with
>>
So what are the chances someone in a year datamines a secret fight we all somehow missed?
>>
I think Ender Lilies/Magnolia had a better soundtrack. These games also have normal gameplay. I don't remember the music cin Silksong because the game constantly puts up barriers so I'm pissed off and can't zone out and enjoy the music. Silksong is a pretty fucked up game. I'm gonna push through and finish it but only with mods.

Probably Choral chambers or Lost Verdania.

if talking about bosses, probably Phantom or Skarrsinger Karmelita.

The OST is kinda on the same level? is good, but is more atmospheric that the last one, is also higher budget, not everything is sampled.

Cogwork core, verdania, and widow.

No. The good tracks are really good and there's plenty of them. But there are just too many areas of the game with forgettable ambiance music. I consider kingdom's edge to be the worst, most forgettable track in hollow knight, and it's still better than most of silksong's act 1 music.

Silksong is already more massive than hollow knight, but mostly because it's spread out more and it doesn't feel as claustrophobic. I'd love it if there really was a giant fuck you sized area at the edge of a hollow knight game where it's just an endlessly massive deepnest type maze through dark tunnels and caverns. And put like one collectible total in it
>>
Not one of silksongs OST tracks were memorable to me, but I feel like that is only made worse by the fact that it always felt like they were in the back of the mix. Music in videogames should be so much more than just ambience for the area, it should be melodic and something you truly wanna listen to more. Also I'm so tired of the generic orchestral strings-slop soundtracks. Gimme something like this to explore Hunter's March to, it would add so much atmosphere to the experience and elevate it so much
https://youtu.be/rrSS4Bx9lmo?si=AtM84sVu4Oa5zSmg
>>
>>722623104
>Music in videogames should be so much more than just ambience for the area
depends on the author vision really, also, electronics ruins the vibe for some people, like, haring electric guitar on a medieval game, so that's why the string slop I guess.
Nice rec though
>>
>>722623451
yeah I will say it is hard to find examples of stuff that would make good soundtracks since a lot of modern stuff (that im aware of anyway) leans pretty hard into the electronic aspects of sound design. But I feel like something like this could surely be translated into more "traditional" sounding instrumentation if that's what was expected of the composer

arnaud roy tends to pick instruments that fit the setting, which then leads to stuff like the endless legend and endless space versions of the vaulters themes being slightly different because the legend version uses more classical instruments

t. normie who likes Silksong's soundtrack more

HK's music is more leitmotif-heavy and each track is more closely related to the area it's supposed to represent. Whereas in Silksong you have areas like Far Fields or the Marrow or the Memorium that have generic tracks that could be swapped between eachother and it wouldn't feel amiss.
>>
>>722596762
HK's soundtrack was also generic. I played it a month ago but can't remember a single track, but I remember that the one I licked the most was the Greenpath one
