Hey /v/ should I buy
>Shinobi: Art of Vengeance
or
>Ninja Gaiden: Ragebound

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/tkYM-lIgsmA

Also I wrote some music this weekend inspired by my favorite video game ninja, Joe Musashi

Neither.

fucker have you even played them
>>
>>722599023
No I just watched the Mork reviews. I've been playing beat 'em ups instead.
>>
>>722599204
what was wrong with either of them?
>>
>>722599307
Ninja Gaiden you can just skip past every enemy because checkpoints will heal you to max so there's no real point in defeating anything. You can make the game more difficult for yourself by buying debuffs but that's not really an excuse for the base experience being so braindead and relies on the player to know what he's doing in regards to difficulty.
Shinobi has poor pacing because of the platforming and puzzles in between the combat bits (which admittedly everyone says is good).
Also I am not a fan of "90ยบ angle and floating platforms for no reason" level design.

thanks anon
sounds like I'd enjoy Shinobi more, since I actually enjoy good platforming

No problem, I do genuinely hope you enjoy it.

All of this is completely true and accurate, but I've still been enjoying my time with the game. I wish ranks were harder to get, though. I play utterly braindead and I still get S Ranks regularly.
NG:R is on GOG though so you can just grab the installer from the usual place if you want to try it out.

you should buy both.
something even better than a ninja game is two ninja games, anon.
>>
>>722603178
but my guy, that's 50 dollars on games that will undoubtedly go on sale for half off in 6 months

I didn't like Ragebound's demo so I passed on the full game. Tried Shinobi when it came out and was surprised how much I liked it. It has rough parts but the combat and the visuals make it a great experience.

This anon's suggestion I can get behind.

ragebound:
>focused linear levels with a few collectibles that unlock abilities and secret areas
>a basic slash attack that kills foes
>a basic kunai attack for a ranged attack
>you can bounce off enemies and some projectiles to gain height/stay midair
>enemies either die in one hit or are killed in a few hits
>attacks can be imbued with power by killing special glowing enemies that have either a blue or pink aura
>kill blue foes with melee to power up; pink aura foes should be killed with kunai
>bosses are a series of static patterns but that happen on a cycle
>to beat the boss and git gud you have to memorize patterns
>ranking system takes time, damage, killstreak, and collectibles into consideration
all in all: 7/10 a solid game

AoV:
>semi-open levels, metroidvania style
>you get abilities that open previously blocked paths
>it's a combo focused brawler styled platformer
>you do combos and deplete enemy health bars
>some areas have enemy gauntlets that must be dealt with in order to progress
>there are collectibles which unlock abilities in the shop
>there are combat challenges that unlock abilities/passives
>enemies do not do contact damage so you can just run past them
>enemies with a shield will not flinch when attacked so you have to deplete their shield before doing combos on them otherwise you'll get hit by their attacks
>boss battles are are similar to ragebound, but defeating them may rely on some sort of gimmick
all in all: 7/10

I personally liked ragebound more, it has a better soundtrack and was faster paced, with more enjoyable boss battles. I'd recommend it over AoV.

Shinobi is a pretty average game that's held back by the Metroidvania format, but still a fun time, specially when it comes to the optional platforming sections which can get pretty brutal. I know they're inspired by the last stage of Shinobi 3, but they remind me more of Rayman. The movement is fun, and the action is mostly a neat bonus, pretty braindead but it's still fun to just tear everything to fucking pieces like it's God of War or something. It's just attracted the attention of a couple autistic shmupfags which can't comprehend average things exist. Game's basically Guacamelee starring a Ninja, with a less colorful gimmick, more super hard platforming challenges and better bosses. It's like a 7 out of 10 yeah. The Shinobi series has sat at this level of quality for ages except for the Genesis trilogy honestly.

If you wanna get Shinobi, I recommend you get the Japanese edition at a japanese import store like CDJapan and bypass Limited Run's jewry, for some reason the game is enjoying a pretty comprehensive physical release in Japan.

Second, this game is an incredible action platformer. My only complaint is the final boss is super underwhelming and unfitting, other than that, incredible game. Tengo Project deserves success.

They're both good but for different reasons.

They both borrow from Strider 2014

They are also very derivative games and feel like paint by numbers at times.

>because of the platforming and puzzles in between the combat bits
The pace breaker ends up being the combat because Shinobi has some really good platforming sections and they feel like the main dish, like the most thought out part of the game. Most of them are quarantined to secret gauntlets though. The combat is just fun and not much else only because the core movement feels pretty good. It's just easy as shit.
