Is it worth playing today?
>>722599180no it's pretty poorly designed and balanced. only appeals to escapists who want to turn their brain off and forget about liffe
>>722599180It's fun but only if you accept that you will be doing a lot of reading.
>>722599180its the elder scrolls equivalent of 'worlds biggest undertale fan excited to play game for first time'
>>722599835No, that's 100% Daggerfall.
>>722599180Yes
Yes if you like Elder Scrolls, have a sufficiently high enough IQ, don't have the attention span of a fly, and understand that it is a game from 2002.It's a good game. It is a good adventure & exploration game. It is a good Elder Scrolls game, and is fondly remembered for a reason.
>>722599960i dunno. when the selling point of the game is 'its farking 'uge m8' it can and should turn people off
>>722599180Yes but only if you're old enough and have a certain type of autism
>>722600021You can fast travel anywhere in Daggerfall by just clicking on a town on the map. You can filter where you wanna go on the map by typing your destination, and just fast travel to it, or near to it. Morrowind is in fact the outlier in the series when it comes to fast travel (silt striders).Daggerfall is a fun game. I like it. It's very old school, and that might turn off some, but if you just like pure gameplay it's great.
>>722599180>jump while walking>character doesnt "land" until i slide around a bunch and find a big enough plane of groundTiresome
Mayhaps
>>722600212thats fine. but it taking a real life day to walk across a province was novel back then, nowadays i'd take something 1/10 the size with more shit in itif i wanted to walk aimlessly towards the next town i could do that in real life
>>722600021your skills matter much more in Daggerfall and the story dungeons are actual dungeons. it's also more of a fantasy life sim than , but a lot of the mechanics are half assed or broken
>>722599180
>>722599180Kinda with OpenMW mod, but be ready to start having fun with it after the 10-12 hour mark. Its has a very sluggish early game. Also, you need to be a mage in order to fully enjoy the game. Every other class is cucked
>>722599180Yes. I played it for the first time this year and it was one of the best games I've ever played>>722599680>poorly designedIt has the best world building and quest design in all of vidya
>>722599960literally nobody cares about daggerfall
>>722603436post your favorite quest and explain what you like about the design
>>722599180Yes. The mods are worth trying out too. Keep in mind there's a dedicated shitposter who will samefag that it's a bad game and will use any and all bad faith tactics in the book to shit on it. Plus the usual /v/ kids who think everything is bad.
>>722599180The best elder scrolls game by a long shot.
>>722603436>quest designanon, i love morrowind but we dont have to kidd ourselves here. the quests arent that well designed in morrowind. they are world of warcraft tier and the most complex quest in the whole game is quite literally the fargoth ring quest.
>>722599180You become godlike far too quickly. At level 15 I could pwn almost everything easily, while barely having scratched the surface when it comes to the amount of content this game offers. I wasn't even minmaxxing or looking up any guides.
>>722603512Not him but main quest of fulfilling prophecy was kinda rad. The empire putting you in via the blades in order to gain political power over morrowind and trying to get you to check all the boxes is cool due to the political intrigue of it, has this dune/Lawrence of Arabia vibe.
>>722599180Fuck no. That combat lmao
>>722603229>reee I swung and I missed how could this happen
>>722603792lol you're the guy in the webm
>>722603229at least daggerfall let you swing your weapon with cool mouse flicks that made you feel like you were swinging a sword or mace. if it werent for its atmospheric, textheavy fantasy with discovery and worldbuilding, morrowind would be shit
>>722603792Dungeon crawlers are so cool. I just wish they had good writing.
>>722599180If you played Oblivion or Skyrim and want more of the same, yeah. The balance is horseshit and the character creation is horrible so your first few characters are guaranteed to be retarded. The first few hours of the game are painfully slow and you can't really do anything, but once you break through and start progressing it has a hypnotic immersive quality that you can lose yourself in for days. Retards on /v/ will tell you it's a good game because you can steal an overpowered sword off a shelf and give yourself infinite stats with alchemy glitches, but they're walkthrough-reading casual faggots who don't understand the unique charm of Morrowind.
Has the "make a thread every day to shitpost about Morrowind" autistic fuck made a return?
Trannywind
>>722604424>t. plays pathfinder as a mage and equips a swordGood job buddy
>>722604774Morrowind DID have good writing, thanks to Kirkbride. As soon as he left the writing went to shit and got super simple.
>>722599180No. We are full after the zoomer influx. Play something else.
>>722603436Finding info on why the Dwarves disappeared for the Mages quest. I loved how all the quests organically intertwined with the main quest in Morrowind. Unlike Oblivion and Skyrims which feel like they take place in a vacuum and have zero effect on the world. They're also just gimmicks with zero substance or depth.
>>722607159>>722603512Post was meant for this reply. I'm retarded.
>>722599180NoIt's complicated, requires a lot of reading, and the combat sucks. You shouldn't play ot
>>72260322910 years later and little changed
i'm having a lot of fun playing it with openMW
>>722605443He just want to talk about it and start the discussion negatively secure more replies
>crap draw distance>bad level system that can result in wasted levels if you don't have intricate, pre-existing knowledge of every facet of the skill and experience mechanics>repetitive OST>misleading quest directions>some races are objectively worse because they can't wear bootsIt needs to be modded to be playable in the contemporary age, which introduces its own set of instabilities.
>>722599180Not vanilla. Vanilla AND OpenMW are dogshit. Play with Ashfall or not at all.
>>722599180If you like TES games you'll probably like it. It's an ancient, clunkier, but much crunchier version of the same game with way more stuff and way more toys to play with. If you're just coming into the series cold it's old enough and obtuse enough that it'll probably turn you off.
>>722607863>in the contemporary ageI cringed
>>722603229>top: shallow wannabe action game with poorly thought out mechanics and hitsponge enemies>bottom: finely crafted RPG where stats matter and investment and committment is rewarded
>>722607925LOL fuck your backpack and pack guar
>>722607784That post was referring to a period where literally every fucking day there was a Morrowind thread with a seemingly normal OP which was made solely to lure in posters at whom the guy could fling shit. Not discuss the game. Fling shit.
>>722608108they're both poorly thought out action games. steamrolling everything isn't a reward it just makes the game boring
>>722603229filteredbottom is cheated btw, that ordinator would body you in two hits
>>722603634>the most complex quest in the whole game is quite literally the fargoth ring quest.but thats wrongmost complex quest involves fargoth, but it isnt this one>>722607863>crap draw distancemod it>bad level system that can result in wasted levels if you don't have intricate, pre-existing knowledge of every facet of the skill and experience mechanicsautism, it isnt oblivion, each level makes you stronger>repetitive OSTtrue>misleading quest directionsmeme>some races are objectively worse because they can't wear bootswhy do you want everything to be balanced? Its a single player game, imbalance is fun
>>722608142You will eat ze wickwheat
Why did TEShit + fallout become so popular, given they're all garbage that relies entirely on the playerbase to "fix", i.e. make the game for them?
>>722609030casual open world games are a good value proposition with wide appeal
>>722599180Yes, arguably more now than 20 years ago.
>>722609030Because there aren't a lot of games with that much scope, scale, and let you interact with just about everything in the world.
>>722609447Wait, when the fuck did Cathnoquey get released
>>722607863>if you don't have intricate, pre-existing knowledge of every facet of the skill and experience mechanicsnigger just pick skills that your race gets bonuses in
>>722599180its worth is only going to keep rising. modern games are shit
>>722599180If you liked skyrim and oblivion then you will probably like morrowind too.
>>722603436>world buildingyes>quest designwhat the fuck are you smoking?
>>722610280Probably confused it with TR's quest design.
>>722610649i'm not installing your mod until it's finished, stop shilling
>>722610915Paranoia
>>722609659That's in progress
>>722610280morrowind has ok quest WRITING but the quests themselves are quite shit. the fighters guild and thieves guild are both hella boring and the only thing that keeps them interesting is the conspiracy with the comona tong. honestly the imperial cult has some of the more engaging quests despite being shoved in the ass-end of everyones least favorite city Ebonheart
>>722609659It hasn't yet.area's with names written in yellow are ones that are currently in production.
>>722609828I think a lot of morrowind hate comes from people that never got the chance to buy the game which came with a handy manual and map. The devs expected players to have both of those when starting the game for the first time.
>>722610915TR and all these mods will never be completed. Currently the ultimate goal is to finish all of Tamriel but the idea of creating other continents and even planets is entirely feasible.>>722611221I don't understand what you mean. I agree that the quest design is rather dull, but it's still the best in the series. Oblivion isn't bad but Skyrim's quests are just trash both in terms of writing and design. I would choose the Morrowind fighters guild over the Companions any day.
>>722599180definitely yes, just get openmw
>>722603512For me, it was the part of the main quest where you have to earn the acceptance of the ashlanders. I had just finished reading kagrenac's tools when I started it and was beginning to understand the scope of the plot. It was easily the most potent Role Playing experience Ive had with a single player game. And I dont mean Role Playing as in "bonk goblin and watch level go up", I mean truly playing the role of my character. I looked back at all the choices I made up to that point, all the quests I had completed, searching for connections between my base gamer impulses and why a Nord warrior caught up in a grand, messianic prophecy would act like that. I started piecing together motives for myself and considering where my character and the ashlanders I was placating fit in to the big picture. Kirkbride and the other writers really achieved something magical with that main quest and now that I'm reading the dune books, I can really appreciate what their inspiration was and how they managed to inculcate this very Paul Atreides style internal conflict in attentive players.
>>722612267>openmwYou didn't beat the game
>>722612267I'm still not sure what "stability issues" OpenMW purportedly "solves" and how come it still crashes for some people. Why does OpenMW exist?
>>722613359>beating mw
>>722613487>Why does OpenMW exist?Me. I asked them to.
>>722613607This man had technologically advanced space moon colonies and guns.
>>722613781And lunar semen vaultscan't forget the semen vaults
>>722599180It wasn't worth playing when it came out.Start with the games they had their shit together.
>>722614000The term is moon cum vaults
>>722599180Yes, but you should think of it as more like an attempt to turn a ttrpg into a computer game than an action rpg. I'm still trying to figure out how to get the UI to look decent and legible on my laptop, however.
>>722614536wait until you learn about crpgs
>>722614536They had mastered adapting ttrpgs into video games with tb iso games.Trying it with real time 1st/3rd person combat was just dumb.
>>722599180Quite literally the best gaming experience I had this year was this with the Tamriel rebuilt mod
>>722614746>>722614894Well, yeah, obviously a crpg is going to be closer to pen and paper mechanically, but the real-time first person aspect makes it feel more like playing an adventure, imho.
>>722609659>>722611212>>722611283>Cathnoquey is an archipelago that lies somewhere between Tamriel and Akavir. It was conquered by Uriel Septim V in 3E 276,[1] and was still an inhabited Imperial territory and trade hub circa 3E 331.[UOL 1] According to dubious Imperial records, its main inhabitants are the Chimeri-quey, a tribal remnant of Chimer composed of fisherfolk who live on the coastlines in grand flotilla-townships of advanced design, and the Keptu-quey, men with tan brown skin said to have a strange obsession with drawing bulls and living in leaderless societies in military fortresses.[UOL 1][UOL 2] One of its major exports is wasabi,[UOL 1] a substance that has been popular in Skyrim since ancient times.[UOL 3][UOL 4] Thats entire lore on that place according to UESPIts going to be pure fanfiction, there is simply not enough source material to take from>>722613487OpenMW would be worth even just for npcs going out of your way in the interiors desu
>>722600314I've tried to ironman Morrowind before. My first death happened because I jumped on a slope that was like a 20 degree incline. It just kept sliding until I'd gone sufficiently below my starting position that the game decided it warranted massive fall damage.
>>722615457The perspective was definitely a selling point. I am surprised they tried to shoehorn in dice rolls from table top games.Square pegRound hole
>>722603229this kills the Morroposers
>>722615720>Its going to be pure fanfiction, there is simply not enough source material to take fromBased
>>722612267last I played, a lot of mods didn't work with openmw. also I couldn't increase the draw distance.
>>722605443probably
>>722617951If that is the case it should be called Tamriel Reimagined.
>>722615720>Its going to be pure fanfictionHave you never played Tamriel Rebuilt
>>722611997morrowind quests have almost zero scripting. you go to the dungeon, kill the guy or find the thing and come back. everyones always just standing around. the east india company questline alone in TR shows that it can be done well in the engine.everything just feels so easy and cheesable in morrowind
>>722617951That's not Tamriel Rebuilt though.
>>722618804I got a bit confused and that was a screenshot of a completely different mod with a similar name. But yeah, both TR and PT have been completely making up lore for a while now, there isn't that much lore for most places and a lot of it contradicts itself.>>722619237The only difference is that Skyrim and Oblivion have crappy cutscenes that constantly break because NPCs get stuck in everything. At their core they remained the same piece of crap, often even worse because the games were simplified and you have less tools.>>722619628Yes, I got confused, Padomaic and Pyandonea sound too similar.
I enjoyed my first playthrough last year, and just started a modded playthrough last week. Morrowind with POTI modlist looks better than most modern games.
>>722619628What mod?
>>722622978>tra-No wait, it's not him. Nevermind.
>>722611408Kek I remember playing at like 10 years old I had the map but didn't bother reading, I was so confused in game.On another note I also had a orc warrior I remember using my enrage spell, it cooling off and exhausting me right when I was in the middle of a lake. 10y/o me panicked and immediately saved my game over my older brother's only save. He kicked the shit out of me for that one.
>>722599180It depends. What else do you have to do today?
>>722603229this braindead wojak kindergarden shitflinging wasn't funny 10 years ago and it still isn't funny today
>>722599180OpenMW and Tamriel Rebuilt
