>>
>>722603621
Piracy is a service problem, since most purchases will be made at the most convenient and most frequented location, failing to sell your service at that location is the only way to actually lose customers.
Ultimately piracy only has positive effects for good games, provided by good services with good track records, whereas companies that blame piracy would be failing even if piracy wasn't an option.
>>722604652
Nah, both the movie and music industries have made the enforcement of copyright so bad that nothing can save the modern media industry other than the complete unrecoverable collapse of every major publisher and the complete dissolution of their assets into the public domain, the DMCA was the last straw.

>Piracy in the music and TV industries played a huge role in the rise of streaming services.
And neither of these are a bad thing, because music and films are completely linear and can be ripped for private use with minimum loss of quality. The thing that makes games different is that they're software. If they have to dial home constantly, they're on borrowed time and there's literally nothing you can do about it.
>>
I'm a pirate, and lets get it out of the way, we are the wrong ones morally regardless of the game company being bad or the game "not being worth the price" or whatever moral justification we come up.
However we should NOT promote piracy for the simple reason that we can only enjoy it because the majority of people pay for games. If we pirates become the majority there wont be more games for us to download.

if your game is really good, if your studio is free from stupid woke drama and i can buy the whole thing (deluxe edition content + DLCs incl.) for no more than 70 dollars, i will buy your game

I have a ~$6000 PC setup with numerous luxury items (5090 FE, bougie soundcard, three top-end monitors, etc.) I pirate every videogame that can be pirated. For multiplayer games I wait till they're on sale. The money I save goes into my house fund - probably next year I'll be able to buy a house lump-sum if I desire.

Zoomers' spending habits are one of the primary reasons they can't buy a home.

I've been pirating games for nearly 30 years. I started with psx. We had a PC with a CD burner and my uncle modded my system for me. My parents would take me to blockbuster/Hollywood video every Friday and we'd rent 2 games . Id burn them if I liked them.
I learned how to torrent by downloading Dreamcast games. I had a DVD burner and a magic swap for ps2 and eventually a fat soft modded console, Ps3 with CFW, modded 360, PSP, and NDS with a flash cart. All while the consoles were still active, not to mention PC pirating since like shogun total war and regular ol emulating

There isn't a viable alternative to Steam and the services it provides unfortunately. Steam is to modern gaming as Wangblows is to operating systems.

Everyone saw the writing on the wall when that fucking gook forced Steam as a mandatory requirement for Counterstrike; even more so when games stopped being physical even when you bought the box as you'd be given a CD-Key to input into Steam. And anyone with a brain wanted Valve to plagiarize all the features X-Fire had and to improve on them -- which is exactly what they did.

The piracy scene for all over medias are nowhere near as vocal as it is for videogames. For books, anime, whatever they just do it and move on with their day with little grandstanding in comparison. Videogame piracy in comparison its less about "free shit" its moreso about making Team A/B mad that you can get their game for free and thus people boast about it publicly in places they shouldn't be and thats what starts a domino effect of shit.

People would have more sympathy for the multi-billion dollar corporations if they weren't constantly finding new ways to be greedy scumbags. Every one of these lowlifes support stripping freedoms away from the customer, and drank the "you only own a license" koolaid. So even if you buy their game legally, they'll still throw an absolute bitchfit because heaven forbid you modified it, or romhacked it, or even made backup copies. Since the 90's Nintendo has been whining and moaning about people tampering with their products without their permission.

Whether it was them screeching about how backup copies violate the law, or that cheat codes unfairly modified their games (even though they require you to own the game in the first place) companies would just endlessly find ways to screw people over. The worst part? Personally there's nothing wrong with supporting a game with money, I'm not one of those guys who calls people paypigs or laughs at them for spending their cash. Just don't condemn piracy as if it's inherently bad. You know what truly is bad? An industry that encourages artificial scarcity, when digital games be replicated infinitely.

>>722640565
Piracy is good, even if you want to support companies. Like let's say you want to enjoy the super nintendo/playstation versions of the original mega man x titles. They have all the fun romhacks that the modern ports don't have, and they work better due to capcom's inadequacy. So piracy gives you easy access to them, without spending 700 dollars for a singular mega man game (I'm not kidding, look up Mega Man x3's price on amazon). if you think capcom deserves money for the games, then buy the legacy collection afterward.
>>
>>722640565
or maybe they should stop making braindead, woke moviegames
>>
>>722640973
trvke. any other reason is just cope
>>
>>722641936
Even a good game is ruined by bad practices, like when a company encourages artificial scarcity.

>buy a copy of metroid prime 2 off the second hand market
>but it's scratched to hell, no refunds
>have no choice but to either rip the game to my PC, or pirate a duplicate copy
>company seethes either way and says that I have to buy a new copy, if my old one stops working

This is a big reason I got in to archiving literally every video game from before 2010 and a lot of DRM free executable games. Being able to play something without an internet connection is great.

A lot of indie games on Steam don't have Steam integration and you can launch and play them without it after downloading, but it's not super common anymore. I'm fine with buying those that are though just because I can back it up and keep it forever.

Since Nintendo and Snoy seem to not want my money, I will simply emulate and get it for free, because I am not going to buy a whole new device that I do not have full control over just to give them more money.

It’s never even actually a morality issue for them, they’re afraid of getting a virus or not getting achievements or their friends not seeing them play it or it not being the most updated version of the game or even that it doesn’t feel the same when they didn’t buy it(irrecoverably cucked), they use the morality angle as a high ground to complain about what they really hate, that they spend hundreds on games and you didn’t but you still played the same games.

The new digimon game costs 70 dollars for the gutted version, 100 for the halfway, and 120 for the full version.

I may not be able to play it for a long time. But when i do it'll be pirated and i won't give a shit. I dont mind the wait. I got a big backlog anyways

>You can afford to spend $3000 on a GPU why not $3000 more for the games.

Retarded logic, but I don't pirate games, I also don't buy them.

I have plenty of games over the past 30 years to enjoy.

This is the type of semantic cope i'm talking about. Whether or not you think it counts as "theft" is irrelevant, because it's both illegal and morally wrong.

it's not theft because it's gross copyright infringement without monetary gain
illegal, yes, but a civil infraction
as for morality, that's subjective. Ethically it's fine

Nintendo talks big on piracy, and is obviously very litigious against those making themselves a public target for spreading piracy or profiting of it through them.
But their consoles (dunno bout switch 2) have always been the easiest to pirate either on pc or through homebrewing their consoles. My Wii has been one of the best value gaming purchases I ever made because of this.
I mostly play on pc/nintendo and I feel no need to defend Nintendos ip rights. The message I take from Nintendo is
>Yeah fine do it but shut up about it in public and don't profit off us

Best way to fight piracy is to make good games and not use anti-consumer practices. Ironically, another best way to fight piracy is make absolute slop that is so bad that no one wants to pirate it and you have to use anti-consumer practices to scam people into paying for it.

i bought factorio on launch because it's great

and i pirated 99% of games i played and won't ever buy them

most of these are fucking corpos, fuck them, most of those money goes to fucking shaleholder scum. i feel zero remorse for pirating game, in fact i feel negative remorse. if corpo rats and shareholders felt physical pain from pirating i'd spent real money on renting aws instances just to run torrents on them

It's technically possible to pirate a game 100% morally. You just have to:

1. Build a machine that can 100% perfectly simulate the universe
2. Simulate the universe, except make it so Game X is impossible to pirate
3. Observe your simulated self's behaviour

If your simulated self still does not buy the game, you can morally pirate it. If they do, you're immorally stealing the game.

I buy most of my games and I don't really care about people pirating games because they're poor or some shit since not everyone is in a financially privileged situation and I remember what it was like to be poor/not have access to a credit card. I just think the old pirate adage of buying a game if you like it is a smart one since if you like a game so much that you want to see more of it, then buying it so the developers have sales + metrics to show that a game is financially successful is just in the interest of everyone.

Of course this doesn't apply to gay tranny games like Concord or Dustborn but I'd be asking why would you even want to pirate those pieces of shit

I predict piracy is probably on its way out anyway since Denuvo has a lot of packages that a different range of developers can access along with Denuvo offering would-be crackers jobs or litigation and there's only a few schizos like Empress left to crack Denuvo and they're off running some sort of schizo cult as far as I know

If people actually bought games and didn't glorify pirating we wouldn't have f2p garbage, denuvo or subscription services. All you faggots are doing is move publishers to more draconian measures. It's wild to me that pirates are so brazen nowadays brigading Steam forums declaring they're going to pirate the game. What do you think that accomplishes? If you're that retarded just kill yourself or at least learn to shut your fucking mouth.
