This just feels miserable to play. Maybe I'm looking back at Hollow Knight with rose colored glasses but nothing in that game felt as sadistic as this. Why are there so many incredibly annoying flying enemies now? Why does everything take three hits minimum to kill? Why does every boss do two damage with every attack, including contact damage? Why are there so many tough fights that are deliberately nowhere near a bench?

I just feel myself losing interest when I feel the devs sticking needles in my fingernails, even if I think the crest system is cool the game design seems significantly worse.

I just beat Lace (architect) and GMS (wanderer)

I like it. The platforming in Hollow Knight original felt pathetic for how grim the world was painted. I got to motherfucking bandage world on old meat boy believe me. The Silkdong platforming looks up and coming though so I look forward to a pretty blind playthrough. I need to keep ignoring discussion about the game and beat it lol

you're going to be let down, silksong's platforming is easier than in the first game

So I've been dabbling with Hollow Knight since Silksong. I think I'm about half way through. All that mostly sounds right. Until I got some nail upgrades even the little flying guys took two hits to kill and your basic "mindlessly run at you" guys took 3 hits to kill. Just from your brief description the only difference is Hornet takes more damage. One of the bosses in the original had a surprise phase that ended up killing me and I had to climb this big ass tower to get back with a ton of the enemies that took like 5 hits and teleported around. I'm sure Silksong might be a little harder but everything except the damage sounds like Hollow Knight.

everything took at least three hits without a nail upgrade in HK1 too, but even the basic enemies are a lot more complex this time and you can't just mash attack as soon as they get in range, they're designed so that if you try that they'll manage to trade and hit you once before they die so you need to respect them at least a little, manage your spacing or avoid their attacks
The flying enemies that try to stay out of your range feel frustrating at first but you have the movement to deal with them, especially once you unlock an ability in act 2 that basically negates it as an issue completely, you just need to approach them differently than HK1 where they would just fly mindlessly at you while you batted them away.
2 damage contact damage is a little dumb actually I agree, it's not a huge problem but it feels unnecessary at least until near the end of the game. Attacks kinda have to do 2 damage because of how good Hornet is at healing, facetanking while trading attacks and then running away and healing while floating midair would be way too strong otherwise. Slow down while fighting and focus on avoiding damage and recognizing and responding to the boss's attacks. Hornet is really fast and good at avoiding damage and healing 3 masks makes her way better at going from being in a terrible situation to being fine than the knight was. It's easier to make a couple mistakes and be almost dead but it's also easier to play well for a few seconds and undo it all.
There's only a couple kinda long runbacks to hard fights and even they're barely a minute once you learn the route, if you're bashing your head against something over and over you should go somewhere else for a bit and explore and come back stronger

Silksong doesn't have any specific "hard part" platforming like HK1 did with path of pain which was DLC and so doesn't really count, but I think the average difficulty is a bit higher, HK1 platforming was generally easy outside of white palace

yeah didnt read
anyway silksong thread

got to act 3 and having fun since i got all the movement upgrades
i still think having lower HP than hk1 and having enemies do double-hits is kinda cringe, i get its balanced out by hornet being stronger overall but being stunlocked in any video game always has felt bad and always will

hk1 was fine until the white palace place, just wasnt any fun, i cheatengined my way past it
silksong has felt great so far, including the ice mountain, much more enjoyable

Mt Fay is harder than the White Palace

i'm looking forward t the inevitable platforming challenge in a dlc where you have to ride one of those platforms with the spinny thing you wack to make it move while also dodging projectiles and jumping over spikes
