You're overthinking it. The first three games worked off a simple premise and notRE gameplay that at most had different plot reasons for materializing. How the fourth (and cancelled fifth) changed the mechanics up or how other developers imitated the concept in their own warped view are after the fact.

Without the town and world shift to the other world or dimension it really does not feel like it should even be a Silent Hill game to me. And preferably this shift should be done subtly. Not like from the movie. Although I understand why they would like to depict it in that way instead. Because its flashy and will wow the casuals.

This is one important thing but an even more important thing needed is the sound and music. Without that I really fail to see how you have a SH game.

Maybe it was ok and they could get away with a few games not being in SH itself. Maybe they could explain it away with oh the town power or cult magic or some shit. But the successive games never really explained this properly or even established it as a definitive thing.

SH is a series that really should have just stayed dead. They just keep raping it with new games having nothing to do with the old ones. Its a cringe self insert series where devs can just insert any agenda and story they want as long as its "2deep4u" and has enough horror in it. The series is cringe and a far departure from what it once was.

Proper remake of Silent Hill 1 would look like this:
0. Made by original Team Silent;
1. Early 00's CGI-style visual style in other words an upgraded og artstyle - a slight puppetry of the character models is vital for this game;
2. Cinematic camera angles, just like in the original game (I don't mind a 3rd person mode for the second playthrough as a bonus, though);
3. Expanded Cybil, preferably scenario b like in Resident Evil 2, with minor expansion in the main plot, just to save the secluded feeling of an original game;
4. The Characters should be true to og themselves. E.g. Harry Is almost Brandon Frazer from The Mummy Returns, but slightly broken and has no military background.
