Reusing assets is good. I don't understand the hate. Do you want these games to take a decade to release?

Correct, in context. There's lazy asset flips, and then there's reusing your existing assets to give you more time to improve other areas of the game.
Fromsoft have over a decade of very good assets: objects, textures, movesets, skeletons, NPCs. A good developer will look at these and find a way to reuse them to save on dev time which can be reallocated to other parts of development.
Every developer does this. Every single one. Some hide it better than others. Some are lazy about it (CoD), some aren't.

Graphically there isn't leaps and bounds between DS1 and ER. Better textures, better lighting, more complex models, and some other shit I don't know about. But it's the same engine in the end. From have never cared about high fidelity so much as they care about a consistent aesthetic, which is why most of their games look so good even when compared to super high def bullshit from major studios.

You kinda need to use reshade for these games. Vanilla 1 looks fantastic (haven't tried remaster). But 2 and 3 are so washed and shit without some external help. 3 in particular is extremely grey and washed.

I think this was an aesthetic choice to make the world look like it was soaked in ash. Everything is really dirty and old and decrepit in DS3 by design. It's a world which has been "saved" from the fire infinity times.

I get what you mean, but I disagree. Even things that can't be grey, are grey, or at least, too washed. The colour palette entirely is too washed and muted, but seemingly without much care. It isn't done well—it's haphazard. What I done wasn't to make the game extremely colourful, but you can with little time make it appear as if the grey smoke filter is gone. Game gets a bit clearer. Example pic' of a screenshot of mine. It's still faithful to vanilla, but everytime I toggled reshade off I was appalled.

I think I agree. Especially for armour (I might give DS2 the vote for clothes, like robes/rags etc, but some of my favourites for such are in DS1, like black + gold trim). DS3 for sure gets the armour vote. I changed my armour around so much in DS3 just for fashion. And quite a lot of things you can mix around from different sets and it looks good. I ensured to make my character's skin pitch-black so you can't see the gaps in armour, such as the Black Knight helmet (of which I used this set a lot). There are other pieces of armour with tiny skin gaps, such as near arms, I forgot which though.

it looks better in this one comparison because that shack in elden ring is on stormhill which has lower visibility
in most of the rest of the game, elden ring looks way less washed out than ds3 which is entirely grey and brown
