(You) are tasked with deciding how the game's plot points should go in order to connect the X saga with the Zero saga.
I set out to not make it about the Elf Wars, and just make a regular MMX game. Not because I'd hate the idea of an Elf Wars game, but because everything you need to know about it was already covered in Z3. It's a background detail, not something that needs to be fully fleshed out.
>>722639369I was wondering if a new X entry would be successful and fun to play if there were some changes to the 8 maverick select-your-stage formula. What I'm most surprised about is that true co-op was never attempted.
>>722639495MM10 was supposed to have co-op but it was dropped during development, so it wound up being a single player game.At this point I feel like just sticking to the core of "eight bosses and some fortress stages, woop woop" has its own merits, since the market has so many metroidvania, roguelite and other types of titles, so that something more decidedly "old school" can have its niche. But, that sort of thing doesn't sell gangbusters, so Capcom is unlikely to do it if they don't find some separate studio to do it for them.
>>722638881Plot points have already been set in motion with the Zero series. Elf Wars isn't enough to make a game off of and if X9 ever existed it certainly wouldn't connect into the Zero series.
>>722639495>>722639667Forgot to mention, MMZ2 has a link cable mode for some very basic two player interactions. Probably just made to fulfill some baseline requirement for link cable functions, but it's there.MM7 had a versus mode as a "one more thing" last minute addition before shipping the game.
All bosses are waifus. There, that instantly sell the game
>>722638881The Elf Wars would only really work as a background conflict over the course of several games, akin to the "Maverick Wars" of the early X Days. Plus you should at least finish the New Generation Reploid story first in X9 (maybe shelve Axl while you're at it, I don't mind the guy but it's an X/Zero story let's be honest). Now, using it as background flavoring for a few games and then concluding it in like X12 as the for real this time "finale" of the X series with all that slow build-up coming to a massive head, I think that'd be fine.
I'm honestly baffled at the decision to not make X playable at the start for X7. What a terrible game in every respect, playing it was somehow worse than how people made it sound.
>>722640524For some reason they thought that everybody was sick of X and tried to replace him with Axl.
>>722638881I'd rather have X0, where we get to see what the fuck happened to regular megaman and characters like bass
>>722638881I would make an Earth Defense Force ripoff with X characters instead of soldier classes.X as a rangerAxl as a wing diverZero as a fencerDouglas as an air raider
Somehow... Sigma returned.
>>722640738That's basically the same as asking for a game on Elf Wars: a never-ever, and also likely whatever idea you have in mind is cooler than whatever anyone would cook up as "canon".
>>722638881>>722640428Isn't the hook at the end of X8 that the villain Lumine infected Axl the same way the Zero Virus infected Sigma? Here's the ending cutscene part that sequel baits:https://youtu.be/0NIpsq3QlDw?t=437So it seems like if they had made an X9 then that would have been the story to follow up with. Since Axl is never mentioned in any of the series that take place in the future (right?), this is a good way to remove him from the series too.You have a plot where Lumine is taking over Axl and/or Axl is going Maverick due to Lumine's influence. You have a fully corrupt Axl as the end boss, with the emotional scene of X having to kill him (perhaps with him regaining the willpower at the end to tell X to kill him). It's a classic story done a million times before but it's effective and follows up with the actual X8 ending. As for the gameplay formula, the original X had the intro level, 8 stage selection (and stages had alternate forms), then the final stages. Like others have said this kind of thing has been done to death, but it's so integral to Megaman's identity what else could you do?I propose an intro stage, the 8 selectable stages, a mid-stage after 4 are beaten, and then after all 8 are beaten some reason to re-visit them in an altered form. Then the final stages at the end of course.Maybe the stage selection is done from some kind of HQ location, and after beating the 8 stages to surprise the player while the stage selection is open the HQ gets invaded, so the player has to defend it (which is basically an extra stage) and the bad guys stole important McGuffins and went back to the stages so the player has a reason to revisit them in an altered form? You'd want to do something innovative with the gameplay formula while still keeping it identifiably Megaman so some kind of twist like that seems appropriate.
>>722641276The entire point of it being set during the Elf Wars is to avoid the Sigma bullshit excuse, though now it creates a new issue where Weil then becomes the recurring antagonist, especially since that was true for how Zero 3 and 4 worked. Honestly the Elf Wars could be done, but it would probably be more beneficial to have it be more than just a singular game since it's the conflict that literally changed how regular Repoilds got treated and created the energy problems that happen after both X and Zero disappear.
>>722641546Then again, X5's eurasia crash is a similar near-extinction level event, and that was just one game, with a brief follow-up in x6.
>>722638881I don't, Zero lore is idiotic and lame. Fucking fairies.
>>722638881first thing I'd do is remove Axl from existence. He makes the cool story and setting feel like Teletubbies.
>>722641506>Since Axl is never mentioned in any of the series that take place in the future (right?)Axl doesn't exist in the MMZ timeline and neither do new generation reploids.
>>722641606X6 was a hodge-podge of ideas, and has the same problems that X7 does, where it was forced out with little to no thought on HOW things were supposed to happen, hell X5 has an ending where X is memory wiped and created Neo Arcadia before X6 was shitout in less than a year.
should I play x2 or start the zero series
>>722641829>hell X5 has an ending where X is memory wiped and created Neo Arcadia That is NOT the ending though.
>>722641965True, but that was also because they weren't sure HOW they wanted to actually build into the Zero series, since the original plan was for Copy X just to be X who finally got mindbroken by all the bullshit eventually.
>>722642035>but that was also because they weren't sure HOW they wanted to actually build into the Zero seriesThat was NOT what happened either.
All I wanted was for Mega Man 10 to tie into the X series, especially as 10 = X, and one of the promotional artworks for the game had Mega Man and Proto Man looking like X and Zero. It would have been perfect. I just want to see Zero awakened in the classic era.
>>722642179They will never tie into any sub series and they've said as much so I don't know why people keep asking for it.
>>722642081No fucking shit. But X6's story being a shitshow and only having the benefit of tying into what actually came out for the Zero games doesn't make X6 a good tie-in game since all it does it somehow make Aila pretty fucking bloodthirsty and willing to take advantage of the whole post X4 story where Maverick was just a label slapped onto undesirable Reploids.
A Mega Man X game, but instead of being a Mega Man X game, it plays like Devil My Cry but with core elements of modern Mega Man (Intro stage, 8 Normal stages, collectables, etc.) So basically X7 3D stages but it's actually good. Bring back Dynamo as a boss and playable character with his own redemption arc as a side-plot. I believe he has potential to be quite interesting.Plus, I thought of an instant character change system similar to Dante's style change. Being able to instantly change between X, Zero, Axl and Dynamo with the D-Pad while in the middle of a combat section or boss fight. As if the game does end up taking place during the Elf Wars, I may aswell make somethimg I liked to call Guardian Mode (Play as the Four Guardians of Neo Arcadia as extra characters after beating the main game once.) Which I believe it would give more replay value. And finally, it would 100% have a coop mode or alternative campaign similar to what DMC5 did but with more focus on teamwork to make the Maverick Hunters actually feel like a team.
>>722642304Now you're just going off on an unrelated tangent.
>>722638881>(You) are tasked with deciding how the game's plot points should go in order to connect the X saga with the Zero saga.I'd cancel the project. Sorry, I rather leave Elf Wars as a myth. Same as the Demon Castle War of 99.
>>722642508>Mega Man X game, but instead of being a Mega Man X game, it plays like Devil My C-
>>722642508The fun thing about X and Zero games is how fast and fluid they are in mobility. You really only stop for boss fights. A DMC style game would be completely against that. Something more like Shinobi or Nightshade would be better.
>>722642508DMC is great but please try out any other action game
>>722643010Meanwhile I keep saying that a 3D X game could just be Ratchet & Clank, if you add a bit more platforming to it.
