I feel like the two genres don't really match.
MD games are fun because you can get in situations that can be sold. Shiren 4 late game is really fun with its fixed rng to try "solve" with savestates, esp when you know the run is dead and your gonna have to die (psp emu saving still has the nismatch issue). It works because you (generally) have all the information you know, and this simplicity makes it fun.
This looks like it has too much going on, too slow and a lot of faff. They got rid of the night mechanics in Shiren because casting the abilities took far too long. There's so much faff in this that makes it a drawl. Even though the range weapons are still ammo'd, relying on them for most of the wearing down deems antithetical to the good positioning of MD games.
The mystery dungeon and monster girls game specifically limits a lot of ranged girls because it actively disincentives good diagonal / walking movement.
The later Shiren games also allow weapons to naturally level up, which I don't think I qas able to see here. Which means you are forced to the grinding materials loop instead of trying to commit to a dogshit weapon that can still grow and survive. Many of the Shiren dungeons are time that actually it's better to take a shitter weapon that will max out its rune slots than a better weapon that grows slowly and you can't jack up naturally.
I also didn't - but this might be me being retarded or missing things - see any pity enemies. Good MD games tend to have something to mitigate shit rng, like mixers for synth if you never found a synthetic pot or the morphs/giris that will drop/make food for you. These tend to make sure there is always a way to survive and rewards keen attention paying and solving the puzzle.
Like (some) Shiren games are good because they have precision in their design which this seems to lack

I'm not really into these types of games, got Monster Girl Mystery Dungeon game that's occasionally namedropped here and haven't played it yet, but I wishlisted yours, devman (if it's really you). I'll probably give it a shot sometime later this week.

Too broke to buy it right now, but I played the everloving fuck out of the demo. The genres shouldn't match, but they really worked out- and I'll admit, shit like the skill animations triggered some form of primal nostalgia.

's ten bucks, so worth a shot if you liked the demo at least. Don't know if progress carries, but I hope it does.

Mystery Dungeon shenanigans. You can form swap the golem and still get the full XP. Another crow spawned at the perfect time to compare the gains.

I've only put about an hour into it so far and made it to the gardens but so far it's alright. I'm a little disappointed by how basic guns are, mainly because they ask draw from the same ammo pool (namely bullets). I was kind of hoping guns would have more of a focus but the fact that ammo is ludicrously scarce and they all draw from the same ammo pool means you're mostly kiting shit with melee and you don't have much of an incentive to bring a variety of guns, since if you run out of ammo for one gun you run out of ammo for all of them. Then again though, I don't have much experience with mystery dungeon games and started playing this shit after playing Jupiter Hell so maybe my expectations are just off

Unlike Shiren, those games had different types of arrows to chuck at enemies.

You have some manner of range attacking in pretty much any MD game, and ammo feels much more scarce here than arrows in Shiren (that you could also infinitely farm in certain cases).
>The later Shiren games also allow weapons to naturally level up, which I don't think I qas able to see here.
Weapons do level up with use.
>Like (some) Shiren games are good because they have precision in their design which this seems to lack
Would you care to list what are these "some" games and elaborate on what you mean?
>>722653486
I feel like traditional roguelikes and Mystery Dungeon games get a really unfair rep now because of the damage that the deluge of rogulites of all genres and scopes has done to the industry.
>>
>>722649285
>I also didn't - but this might be me being retarded or missing things - see any pity enemies. Good MD games tend to have something to mitigate shit rng
Adding to that, I feel like the difficulty of the enemies here ramps up way too quickly, like running into a devourer or two on second floor can be a death sentence, and there's been multiple times when I've came up to the first boss with only a knife and a handful of bullets.

I really don't like how there's no diagonal movement/attacking. It just feels wrong, very limiting.
>>
>>722653721
>because of the damage that the deluge of rogulites of all genres and scopes has done to the industry.
By making a lot of really fun and complex games? I wouldn't listen to the people who shit on roguelikes because if you could see their play history it's full of AAA movie slop that has done real damage to the medium.
>>
>>722656426
>a lot of really fun and complex games?
More like a few of those and dozens upon dozens of formulaic clones of the few actually good roguelites. And then you get people conflating roguelikes with the sloppiest of the roguelites because no one makes enough effort to put any distinction between the two anymore.
>>
>>722656515
I'd put roguelites over the vast majority of modern trash this industry shits out.
>>
>>722656925
The thing is, the rest of the modern trash is absolutely irrelevant to this conversation since it doesn't impact roguelikes (or their perception) in any way.

I've put twelve hours into it already, I was too lazy to set up Duckstation to try out Azure Dreams or Torneko and was looking for a good mystery dungeon game, this one rocks shit. Only downside is that it being a $10 game means there's not much to it. I'm doing the extra hard post-game dungeon now, shit's intense.
>>
>>722657334
that's what mystery dungeon games are you dumb nigger. do you need subway surfers and family guy clips on the sides or something?

Why not just say Resident Evil roguelike.
>>
>>722647575
Just finished it and the post game dungeon, it's alright kinda short though.

Unless im missing a post post game dungeon or something, kind of under the assumption that the missing percentage i have is from the spell book's or somethin.
>>
>>722657598
Because Mystery Dungeon is a sub-genre of roguelikes and a more specific descriptor.
>>722658571
That's a shame, but for this price not unexpected. Still, it's good and I hope the dev makes more, either DLC or a sequel.
