>2025 is now officially the year of inferior indie sequelsWhich one was the biggest disappointment?
>>722654398Meh, first games sucked as well.
Magnolia was good. At least as good as the original, just with another theme and tone. Certainly a better sequel than other two.
>>722655049Personally I thought Magnolia was substantially better as a game but I vastly preferred Lilies' storytelling and narrative. Magnolia tried to do too much and didn't have time to flesh out the parts that mattered enough. I rate the two about the same in the end. Silksong was a straight upgrade over Hollow Knight for me. Hades 2 was slightly better as a game but the story and characters are terrible. Then again, roguelites are simply incapable of having good story and characters because of the way they work (any example anyone is thinking of replying to this post with is wrong, including the first Hades)
>>722654398Hades 2 is a complete disappointment. >Boons that were great in the first game are now locked behind character specific keepsakes and have SINGLE chance of appearing during your run (Athena & Dionysus)>Weapons are worse than in the first game >No memorable music like "Good riddance" and "Its in the Blood" from the first gameFuck this company and developers. Adding them to my personal blacklist forever.
Magnolia and Silksong were fantastic.Hades 2 was disappointing.
>>722654398Switch 2.You can just tell a Nintendo fan made this garbage thread.
>>722656214*breaks your nose with a single punch then grabs your head and holds your face up to mine and burps on the wound*
>>722654398Im playing HK again after silksong and its definitely much much worse. spamming dash nonstop to get around the map is not fun. the level design is way less interesting too
>>722654398Magnolia is better game, music and art piece, but weaker story. Gilroy refight for final boss is lame.Other two are just worse in every aspect compared to the first entry, and said first entry was already pretty mid.
>>722654398Magnolia is just okSilksong is an improvement in many ways but also goes back a few stepsHades 2 is just bafflingly bad
>>722654398silksong blows those the first one and hades 2 out of the water, not sure about that other one though
>>722654398Deltarune's new chapters aren't bad but they are worse than chapter 2 based on their lacking darkworlds. I also thought Silksong was disappointing and worse than the first game. I wonder if Hades 2 is any good and I'm not just experiencing a "bad indie game sequel curse" this year.
I am impressed so many people think Silksong is an improvement, when it's pogo, charm system, and freedom - the defining things of hollow knight - are very objectively worse. Doesn't help that every enemy is a miniboss waiting game instead of something you can swipe away while traversing and move on, More complicated enemies =/= better enemies, usually the opposite. Especially in a 2D platformer with touch damage. In those games you want enemies to be hard coded patterns without even ability to move around.
>>722657071The things you mentioned are actually all better in Silksong.
>>722654398Silksong is better than the original. A bit too linear in Act 1, but Act 2 more than makes up for it.
>>722654398silksong is better than HK. hades 2 is the same as hades. never played the other one.
>>722657161new pogo/dash/clawline would be good, if they bounced you out of the enemy faster than touch damage can come in. As it is now you are forced to wait for a perfect moment instead of using them agressively. Which is multiplicative of annoying enemies, who already take too many hits to kill, but now you are forced to play them like it's dark souls 2. Idk how you can argue charm system is better when it's literally basic bitch rpg ring system instead and offers zero flexibility charms did. Charms were so good everyone copied it, crests will not be copied, as they already exist. Just as different playable characters/classes, not just moveset change.
>>722654398Out of those 3? Hades 2 without a doubt.
>>722657071>>722657403>I thought Silksong was too hard and am mad and insecure about it
>>722656974chapter 3 is the best chapter so far and 4(which has the best atmosphere of any dark world) isnt far behind 2, i agree none of the dark worlds felt as ambitious as the cyber city though but 5s is shaping up to top it
>>722657487ah we caught the git gutter who thinks that annoying = hard = fun. I didn't have a hard time, nor did i have a fun time, only annoying time.
>>722654398Hades 2 has been effectively out since the EA began
>>722656056>>722656634The game is bad because Athena, Artemis, and Dionysus, aren't main boon givers anymore? Why is that a problem when they added new gods to act as new main boon givers in their place? Hades2 is massively better than Hades1. The enemy designs are way better. The enemies are more distinct from one another in the different regions, with more distinct gameplans to them. The weapons are more distinct and with more unique gimmicks. You've now got different path options that offer both variety and different benefits. The sprint is a great addition to the game. Omega Attacks and MP is a great addition to the game. The arcana are better than the mirror. The keepsakes are a lot more interesting than in Hades1, and the god-keepsakes in particular were actually made worthwhile which significantly shakes up the gameplay since the god-keepsakes are like a third of all keepsakes. Game good. Game great. Massively superior sequel over the original.
>>722657771I love when I voice something I don't like about Silksong I just get accused of needing to get good as if I didn't already beat the true final boss or that I didn't beat Pantheon 4 binded or NKG and PV on radiant mode in the first game.
who cares about your flavor of the month shit?
>>722658030Go back to your gachaslop SEAnigger
>>722656056>game is bad because Gods with busted boon don't regularly appear anymore >omit the fact you have more constant damage source, can shit out much more damage AND EARLIER than you ever could in Hades1
>>722657202A big issue is that act1 is half of the map. Saying half of an "exploration game" is linear ain't a good signIn fact, the same is true for tools, movements, crests, unlockables in general. Most of the stuff is locked behind act 2. In the original HK, as soon as you got the wall jump, you could go basically anywhere
>>722654398Shillsong for how much it was overhyped and how unfun it turned out. The other 2 are fine.
Silksong is my GOTY.Magnolia is great but Lily was cuter. And Hades 2 is a two steps forward five steps back sort of deal. Reminds me why it was such a meh roguelite.
>>722657836maps are just boring arenas with no designthe combat is slower and no funworse art, worse characters and writing build variety doesn't make up for all that, Hades is a game carried by the characters, not builds autism
>>722658918Even in terms of characters the game is better though. Mel is kind of autistic, which makes her entertaining as a lead character. And the game benefits massively from actually having some real antagonists unlike the first game that was just contrived family drama that stopped making any good sense whatsoever halfway through. And combat isn't slower. You can melt things just as fast in Hades2. And if you think the maps are just boring arenas with no design, then you must have surely had that complaint two or three times over for Hades1. The arenas are no doubt more distinct from one another in Hades2, and the number of both traps and hazards as well as useful terrain objects, have both increased in Hades2 and are distinct to each region. But more than that, as mentioned before, the enemy designs of the different regions are more distinct from one another than before. But the different regions have also got more distinct paths to progress too, like the surface's open Ephyra, or the Mourning Fields with 'free' to grab freebies, or the closed additional pahtways of the Oceanus that are locked behind additional enemy encounters. It certainly helps to make the different areas unique, and does to varying degrees alter whatever strategy is appropriate for the region in question.
>>722656214>indie
Guess I must be contrarian because I dropped Hollow Knight like 3 times after the first boss because of how boring it was and gave up on it, whereas I'm enjoying Silksong quite a bit. Almost dropped that too before getting the sprint though. The reason Hollow Knight is so boring because moving around the map isn't fun, and every single movement upgrade is also incredibly boring or rigid. Silksong feels a bit more like it's actually just an expansion of the base move set.Haven't played Hades because I'm not into roguelite slop.
>>722654398>silksong>inferiorokay anon, here's your (you) now stop being a shitter
>>722659870I'm playing Hollow Knight now and I think it would be better as just a straight up platformer or maybe even a boss rush arena game. The map system sucks, the mapping sucks, the upgrades are few and far between while the few movement abilities aren't particularly satisfying to use, and even the base move set feels poorly thought out (aiming aerial attacks conflicts with basically all elements of the game in my opinion).
