They build up markers as effort to replicate their race once it comes to contact with organic life. But all of this happened so long ago. Their kinda life all died and disapeared from galaxy. And was replaced by carbon based life like humans. When marker comes contact with primitive life on planets. It caused mass death before it gets job done. But when humans go to space. They expirience slow and isolated exposures to marker. Allowing progress to happen gradually. In ds1, it's still mess and would cause only death and destruction. In 2 they get closer to viable end product. Then in 3 it would be full on alien life reborn. Maybe isaac is one that goes through transformation. Ending is. Will he embrace it and bring forth alien race and end of humanity. Or will he put stop of it. Center plot of 3 would be cult/organisation that figures out this is going on and try to force it to happen to whole humanity. And they end up worshiping isaac
