The game restored to 2007 condition, with the promise of preserving that tone, culture and philosophy as new content was added. Then, they didn't fucking do that. It got out of its lane, added shit no one wanted, and did so in direct spite of the player base's wishes. Every diehard got their fill of the original content, and the new content wasn't even good enough to keep people around, so it started bleeding players, just like it did back in the day after RS3 first released. Giving it a nostalgic coat of paint doesn't mean anything if you keep making poor design decisions and showing contempt for your customers. All the goodwill the decision to bring back the old game provided has long since bled out.
