>buy a game from GOG

holy shit GOG is so awesome bros, literally king shit.

Never played a Silent Hill game.
>>
>>722663261
True. They improved the gaming experience for both buyfags and piratefags. I just wish they would keep track of patch notes and allow us to see all of them because in some games they have their own version numbers or even their own patches.
>>
Imagine paying for games
>>
>>722663382
ME isn't on there because they won't release it DRM free
The Steam version requires you to download their dogshit EA launcher instead

Still, it's something I want to play, and it's not there. I'm not splitting my library (I posted the Mafia download. I got that for free from Amazon. Never bought anything from them because that web download speed and picrel's Galaxy download speed are pathetic), so it's largely useless except to pirate from.
>>722663940

If you want to play ME you HAVE to split your library unless you pirate it.

Some roofucker was bragging about his 2gbit symmetric fiber a while back. I was envious. I have 1500/40 (though I need to call Comcast and upgrade to 2000/300).

Or I could just buy my games on Steam, where I own them and am free to share them legally.

>>
>>722665067
Nobody really complains about DRM in games except poors. Old DRM like Starforce and late-era SecuROM (the online shit, not the out of bounds data on a disc that was easily cracked) was horrific. Denuvo just does what it does silently (muh stutters, here's a DF video because I can't show any evidence of my own). Steamworks might as well not exist.

It's pretty simple to me. Is it multiplayer? Then steam. Single player? GoG.
>>
>>722664146
on top of not owning it own steam, you also have to download the EA launcher and create an account there and then you'll have TWO loicences for ME but you still don't own it.
>>
>>722665067
i don't give a fuck about drm in games, there's enough non-drm games to play and I can just wait until they eventually stop paying their annual license for drm if I really care to play it. Surely you're not a fucking fomo loser that has to play every <CANT MISS> game on release?
>>
>>722663261
I like them. The only reasons I don't buy more through GOG are that I can usually buy from Steam for cheaper and I trust Steam versions to run better on my Deck.
>>
>>722663261
GOG is great, but they've been slacking with game settings. They used to install the games with the best settings possible, and all you had to do was run the game, which is awfully conveniently and really the whole reason why I bought them there.
Now, they seem to just get the game running and call it a day, which is gay.
>>
>>722666227
So how do I own it on GOG?
>>
>>722663261
GOG is pretty great.
I might be mistaken, but I’m pretty sure that if you decided to install Galaxy and have pirated some of their games and have them installed alongside games you bought, Galaxy will also update and manage the pirated ones.
>>
>>722667146
It shouldn't be able to detect non-account games. If that were the case, it'd pick up Steam games that have the GOG assets included because they're lazy.
>>
>>722663451
I just torrent the games I own, way faster and easier than having to deal with Galaxy or having to download parts manually. Maybe if it's a single .exe or a single .bin file I'll download it through the browser but anything more than that and I'm just downloading the torrent. Same with Steam, fuck dealing with that bloated snail that takes a good while to open up, it's way faster this way.
>>
>>722667287
I've never had a torrent go 187MB/s. Steam is much faster and easier. Also, it takes up almost no memory, games are installed on download, games are updated, and I play multiplayer games which are largely unpirateable.
>>
>>722667380
Steam is cancer. Want to install to a different disk? Oh but first add it to the library. Adding it to the library creates a stem folder with library useless library files and a sloppy sub-install path within. Meanwhile on GOG I can just point the installer where I want like I did since the 90s. Simple and easy and doesn't create a billion library files.
>>
>>722666936
You can download the install kit and save it on a USB.
>>
>>722666936
you can download the installer and then delete your gog account and you'll still have the file on your pc without drm and you can make infinite copies
>>
GOG is there to take advantage of morons who don't know the difference between "DRM" and "game has online service". Titles are rarely as supported, lack features, and they couldn't manage a native Linux client. They also made the stupid Galaxy 2.0 client instead of working with Playnite/Lutris/Heroic and making that their 'official' client, contributing to one of the FOSS clients. Overall its a worse experience on GOG and that's even before getting into some particulars. Steam and Itch seem to do a better job ever since GOG gave up their focus on Good OLD Games and just decided to be worse Steam.

Ok, show me where to download the GOG installer for Mass Effect.

>>722667612
But how does your folder structure impacts your video game enjoyment? You're most likely running the game from a desktop shortcut or from a launcher anyway so there is never a reason to look into the folder for those games.
I just keep everything in either X:\pirated_games\ or in X:\steam_library on every drive I have.
>>
>>722667885
>instead of working with
Yes let's spread out the ecosystem around 5 different companies that will make sure it works longer! Retard this is why gamespy was a mistake.

>preservation program
What a fucking scam. They released DMC4SE and it's just as broken as it was on Steam.
>>
>>722663261
GOG is a fucking joke at this point. Their dogshit launcher doesn't work at all and their game preservation and dreamlist are a total lie. They've done nothing in recent months, or indeed during their total failure of a 17th Anniversary event, but add modern games you can easily get elsewhere. They added the Crysis 2 and 3 remasters instead of the original versions of those games and are pretending like that's a win. Completely worthless site.
>>
>>722668103
>implying EA will ever let you own DRM free games
They don't even let you just get it on Steam, you have to download their own bullshit launcher on top of it

>All it ever does is crash. I straight up don't believe you that you've never had it happen.
Your install of galaxy is trashed. They've rebuilt the thing several times throughout the beta and weren't very good at cleaning up after themselves, so bits of old config and leftover files are breaking your install. You're going to have to manually clean it up, delete the install folder, check for galaxy services, check the registry for good measure. Sucks, but that's true of any windows program. Given a long enough timeline everyone will experience a trashed install that affects them and them alone. Happens to me on steam once every few years too.

>Mass Effect
That has been offered free so many times I'm lost why you even want a GoG copy as a means to start your collection there. I have the Origin, Epic, Xbox/Microsoft store, and the PSN versions all free because for some strange reason they gave all three out at different times for free the last ten years. Same with Dragon Age Origins.
Like I get wanting to show support to GoG but some games it would just be confusing to even offer.

What's with the weekly GOG threads? It's still garbage. Even Epic is better because you get free games from Timmy.
