capitalism has really ruined things. It demanded people give up their independence to exist within wage society which it promised would be better, and it was for a while. Then after producing generations that dont know how to survive with out it, pulled the rug out from under. Now to simply survive in nature would require immense reeducation and the available nature to do this in is private property. Good luck building a shack in the woods even if you can. The knowledge of this is itself a huge problem, peoples expectation of the future is shot because they both recognize they cannot simply live in a traditional way if they had to and could somehow figure out how to, and also that the security that our current social order is permanent and there are safety nets we can rely on has eroded. So there is an impending problem almost everyone is at risk of and there is no good way to even try and plan on dealing with it. Our agency has been stripped and the people in charge are leading us to ruin.
