>AND WE ARE FOLLOWING THE WILL OF THE ONE

what are your favorite LOTR games? any hope for future games using the ip?
for me, it's Return of the King in coop, and I'd love to see a LOTR game with Dragon's Dogma gameplay, think that would be a match made in heaven.
>>
How are the Mordor games? never ever tried them

Two Towers and Return of the King games for PS2/Gamecube
Third Age despite blatantly ripping from FFX is great even with that jarringly sudden ending
Both Battle for Middle Earth games are fun

I wish we got a single-player RPG set in the LOTR universe at some point, Elder Scrolls-style. I'm not into MMORPGs so LOTRO doesn't cut it

ah shit that was my fear. Is the 2nd any better?

The Diablo clones on gba were underrated. I wish the idea was flushed out more with actual coop.

Battle for middle earth 2 WITH the age of the ring modpack is the best LotR gaming experience. Age of the ring is one of the greatest pieces of user generated content ever, right up there with arcane dimensions for quake.

It is, I genuinely kind of love it and how you get to explore the big set pieces from the movies. Actually getting Ian McKellen to narrate the collectible lore fragments scattered throughout the game was also really cool.
>>
>>722667654
Nahm it's worst in every way and tacks on too much half assed RPG shit and tons and tons of bloat.
>>
>>722670125
somehow I have this in my Steam library. How does it play? is it fun solo?
>>
>>722670125
Surprisingly solid game. It's peak early 2010s action with some slight RPG elements. Troy Baker and Laura Bailey playing two of the party members amplifies that 2010s feel.

yes but in 2025 mods at this point are "I'll believe it's going to be finished when I'm actually playing it", especially LotR ones

>How does it play?
It's a beatemup hack and slash with some RPG elements. You load into a level and go forward completing objectives and do simple objectives.
It's a loot and gear game, but there's surprising amount of depth to building your character. and it's very faithful to the source material, so no millennial writing, Stoya playing Schelob or capeshit tier dialogues. It can be difficult at times, but the mechanics are not super complicated, you have fast and fierce attacks, kicks, blocks and dodges and you're basically fishing for a finisher move to activate your fury mode, that makes you deal more damage and attack faster as long as the combo lasts.
>is it fun solo?
Yes, it's pretty fun solo, but it's a blast with friends, especially since all the characters have different special abilities (that allow them to find hidden loot and get more exposition), and if you want to get all the quests done, you will either have to play with friends, or repeat some levels with different characters.
>somehow I have this in my Steam library
You're lucky. It's not sold anywhere anymore. Unless you buy a copy from a retailer that still has it for 50 dollars, you cannot really get it legally anymore.
>>722670548
It's really great, it was supposed to be an actual RPG at first and have one more character in the party, but they were strapped for budget and time.
Too bad they released so close to Skyrim. Poor game never stood a chance...
>>
>>722671057
well I guess it deodnds on your definition of finished
yeah Bannerlord is considered 1.0 out and "finished" but at the same time they keep releasing more patches and content that is constantly breaking mods so modders are having a tough keeping the scene alive
>>
>>722671287
Sounds very cool, kinda reminds me of Dragon's Dogma but level based, or even Dragon's Crown in 3D
>You're lucky. It's not sold anywhere anymore.
well that fucking sucks, I have two friends but I doubt they own the game
>>
>>722671743
Yeah you got it, it is very much like Dragon's Dogma. Down to the repetitive party dialogue that becomes kind of endearing.
>>
>>722672048
>it is very much like Dragon's Dogma. Down to the repetitive party dialogue that becomes kind of endearing
fucking awesome dude, I know what I'll be playing today. Cheers anon.
>>
>>722672048
Yeah, it just blends with the battlefield noise after a while.
There's plenty of unique dialogue in between the fights. It's a real treat for LotR fans.
>>722671743
I think you can set up a hamachi server to play it on a pirated version. But I never had to do it.
I ended up buying a copy for my friend when it was still $100.
I don't know why it was delisted... Maybe it will make a comeback to Steam like Call of Juarez the Gunslinger (another great game) one day?
>>722672357
Have a great evening with the game then!

TTT+TROTK (PS2/PC)
Battle for Middle Age 1&2
Third Age
War in the North
I love those. I know the GBA games are good, I remember playing one of them for a little bit when I was a kid.
The Lego games are more of the same, and the Aragorn one is a technical mess.

The mid-00s were basically peak LOTR gaming. It's wild how the movie franchise managed to keep itself running off of side-media like that even though the last one came out in 2003. I imagine the gradual release of the extended editions also helped.
>>
>>722673767
yeah. Also too bad The Rings of Power fucking sucked so much ass. We could have had a second wave of LOTR games.
>>
>>722670119
If you're a movie enjoyer it's an insane treat, since they got Ian McKellen to voice completely new dialogue for it. You get about 120ish small cutscenes that are basically just movie clips but with his narration and to this day I still listen to them all whenever I replay it, it's one of my alltime favorite turn based RPGs with a surprising amount of replayability since most characters can at least go into two different trees and with 7 characters you can choose to do different parties a fair bit.
>>
>>722674773
seems like the put a ton of effort into it for a movie adaptation into a niche genre
>>
>>722672975
I don't think it's sold anymore.
You can torrent the PC version pretty easily.
>>
>>722670119
It's really fun if you like 10. Stars slow but the entire sequence up to and through Moria is great. It falls off around Helms Deep, it becomes a series of battle rushes.
>>
>>722674898
It's a really strange game from a marketing perspective, you play as OC Donut Steels and almost offensive copies from a certain perspective, but they're all pretty cool characters and you essentially follow the trail of the fellowship before the real plot takes off and you kind of still end up following the movie but for different reasons. That combined with the FFX gameplay, which is excellent, it just stands out at an oddity, but a really good one. It's pretty easy to emulate so I would recommend it.

>>
>>722676390
been checking some videos. Xbox seems like the best looking one (like in most games I guess) but the GC looks a bit blurrier. I don't have an Xbox so I'll go with the PS2
>>
>>722675498
It goes to shit in the final level which are just brown corridors of Pelennor that are hard to navigate. Both Osgiliath and Minas Tirith are kino levels. Helms Deep definitely does have a shit ton of horde fights but to be fair it's kind of apt, I personally like it but it can be a bit of a wall if you're not prepped for it.
>>
>>722676507
It feels like they must have been crunched for development and had to sacrifice the end of the game or something. The Pelennor > Sauron fight > Extremely underwhelming final cutscene part just feels bizarre compared to the rest of the game. The final cutscene is just a barely 1:30 long narration of Ian McKellen talking about the Fellowship and then it ends, no character farewell or anything.

such a fun faction in TATW
starting as a dilapidated Eriador in Bree with generally mid units with the goal of conquering the historical borders of the old kingdom, purifying the Barrow Downs, restoring the alliance with Gondor, and rebuilding the old capital city of Annuminas you get to then transition into Arnor proper with an absolutely stacked badass roster

I know there are interviews with the devs hidden somewhere out there, and how it was scrapped together with parts from the Return of the King or something, I dont recall much of it but it's one of those games that feels like it's a miracle it got made in the first place, and the ending just kinda confirms how cut and run it must've been at times since yeah, it's really up there with worst endings ever.
>>
>>722681327
never played The Third Age. Would you say the ending is even more rushed that Rage's? That's sitting at #1 "wtf did the game just end" moments for me
