The only change I've seen so far that makes any impact at all is the ability to pick up discarded weapons and throw them. It's still the same game otherwise; they've done some things to vary up the map marker stuff but the combat is what it always was, rock paper scissors bamham combat; the climbing and platforming is the same half-cocked Uncharted shit it's always been. Its biggest crime is honestly that it doesn't do anything to really differentiate itself from the first game; it's basically the same thing, and I guess if you really liked the first you'll probably like this one.They should have leaned hard into a more 70s style chanbara aesthetic instead of just doing more ersatz Kurosawa stuff. It should have evoked movies like Lone Wolf and Cub, Hanzo the Razor and Lady Snowblood instead of just doing that sword of Seven Samurai / Sword of Doom thing it was doing last time.Also it takes too long to get a musket.

It's slightly better at most things gameplay wise but it also is very much just an open world game out of 2015 with more polish and a consistent impressionistic artstyle. The shrine climbing in this was making my eyes glaze over even though I haven't played a game like it since the original. It's a 7.5, very well made but just out of date. Now just like the first they do have strong move/utility regardless. Like in the first the Water's triple slash is always good or the super kick is always good, in this the Odachi has some passive where you have delayed damage and can heal it back and the Kusarigama has a crazy AOE. The focus attacks are strong regardless and have their own utility since they just bypass stagger anyways and deal raw damage
