If they're just going to buy and play one video game this year, then they're willing to go with a generic garbage experience as long as it's regularly fun over picking up a dozen games in hopes that one will be better than average. They don't have time to learn all the different genres or the minor differences between subgeneres or to play thru hundreds of games to determine exactly what sort of games they like more than others. They just want to spend their money and play a video game.It's not surprising that they're more attracted to the AAA games with polished visuals and voice acting and generally passable gameplay. It's not surprising that they don't bother with Indie Pixel RPGMaker Adventure or with some wildly niche core mechanic in an unusual game that requires three hours of youtube tutorials before you can start understanding the mechanics.
