>mascot merchandise bait>action games with a spooky aesthetic >nothing actually scaryWhy is horror so consistently the trashiest genre?
>>722694612>Let me show you a trick>proceeds to show off her impressive gag reflexwhat did she mean by this, exactly?
>>722694612Would. Out of curiosity how does this trick end?
Because people have gotten desensitized. It used to be that a guy with a chainsaw was terrifying, but now no one really gives a fuck about it. You have to make something so over the top to actually scare people, and it's very difficult to pull that off without becoming repetitive or boring.
>>722694612Themes that would cause actual horror are considered 'problematic' so what you get is trash
>>722694612Because horror is far more popular as a setting than as a theme. Normalfags can't even handle entry level horror, after all.
>>722694612Play crowcoutry.
>nothing actually scaryI know right? I mean, how can a game scare me when i'm checking discord on my 2nd screen, playing with air pods as my audio output and have pooh shiesty's greatest hits playing in the background? Gawd if only horror games could be made to be scary under this scenario.Chat, give me horror game suggestions!
>>722694612Because anyone with unity and patience can make a shitty horror game for youtubers to play
oh god! is that a sexy woman doing something provocative? I'm going insane!
>>722694612Dreadout 1 and especially the Dreadout keepers of the dark were actually MUCH more scary than ANY fatal frame game, and it's not even close.Dreadout 2 sucked on a very technical aspect (extremely clunky and messy) , i hope D3 is gonna be more ironed out
Fatal Frame and Siren
>>722698405I'm sad how I'm the only person in the world who loved DreadOut 2. I love how it had slice of life sequences between the horror sequences. It felt like a horror version of Persona
It amazes me no horror game truly utilizes the infinite possibility of fuckery in video games. Things that shouldn't exist in physical space but do, caving in on itself, things disappearing the second you attempt to look at them, horrifyingly big things, I want a schizoid attack simulator. They always rely on SUPER SPOOKY CHARACTER DESIGN WHO ATTACKS YOU. I want a game that attempts to recreate that cabin ghost story about a man who takes refuge inside a empty cabin in the woods at night, and he remarks about all the creepy paintings of people staring at him, and in the morning he realizes they were all windows. It doesn't have to be literally that, but it's an idea. They'll try to do stuff like this but with zero subtlety. The amount of times I've been served up the same scares with different paint is infuriating. You MUST NOTICE THE THING. No game can be allowed to be truly terrifying because it's an incredibly niche market, much smarter to make something spooky that appeals to more people.Observer had some unique stuff. I'm going to play Visage this month as well.
>>722694612that's so hot bwos...
>>722699571>Things that shouldn't exist in physical space but do, caving in on itself, things disappearing the second you attempt to look at themThere are fucking MILLIONS of horror games like this
>>722694612The movie genre is prone to getting stuck in formulaic ruts also. Horror is just inherently a base genre. Its desperate to appeal to the primate inside us. Horror has always been one notch above porn - thats why shit like resident evil gets the gooner treatment so hard.
>>722694870>You have to make something so over the top to actually scare peopleTo add to that specific issue, you have to consider that by attempting that, you also risk:1) Coming off as tryhard/edgy, which would ruin the horror by being perceived as cringe2) Nailing the sweetspot but getting censored/cancelled as your content is simply too offensive/problematic
>>722694736I think she wanted the Sex.
>>722695369You are such a fag holy shit i can't believe you typed all that
>>722694870>people have gotten desensitizedPeople haven't, kids still get scared just like they used to.Normal people still get grossed out by gore and body horror.YOU have gotten desensitized
>>722700216>actually gets triggeredHit too close to home I see.
>>722699571There is no one size fits all solution. Say you have a survival game like that old one, The Long Dark. Say you found shelter after your resources are stretched thin and the player is grateful. Then you have something like the windows being paintings that stare, day comes, and they're just windows again. Will it lead anywhere, or is it a one off moment? If it's a one off moment, you will 100% have players who say>Well that didn't go anywhere significantIf it's not a one-off moment, then the game runs the risk of the moment not being as scary. Horror only really works as setting or dressing. Fictional things happening to someone isn't scary. What's scary is not knowing if your bills will be paid. Not knowing where your job will be in 10 years.
>>722700419nta but do some reading on sociology and how media has affected culture, anon. Ignorance is a choice in 2025.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N1kBUk6_siU
>>722698653>It felt like a horror version of Personahell no lol, wtf u smoking bud
>>722701006Anime-style schoolgirl slice of life shit interspersed with more typical video-game action shit. It's just, in Persona, the action has a JRPG flavor while DreadOut's action is survival horror flavored
>>722694612Still cutejust wash off the black shit
>>722700520fuck are you talking about
>>722700419>YOU have gotten desensitizedI don't think I was ever sensitive. People on the internet claim that they were traumatized by the Charlie Kirk video. But it's the tamest shit ever.Meanwhile, I was watching mexican gangs pry out a man's throat with a screewdriver, when I was in my early teens, and nothing..
>>722694612this is actually really hot. iamgine if your gf could change her face like this. fuggg
>>722700419Right. I bet you also think porn content is just as tame as it was 20~30 years ago, and that it has had no impact whatsoever in the current generation's sexual behavior, am I right?
>>722694612>action games with a spooky aestheticYeah. But I'm actually really enjoying Withering Rooms. I've been very apprehensive to enter some rooms when seeing a new enemy that I have no way of knowing the strength of.The part in the pitch black basement was also effectively unnerving.
>>722703128i got filtered so hard by this game i purged most of my memories of it from my brain and now i want to play it again but i know im going to get filtered again
>>722702545>brave>anime crystal disk>core temp>dolbyoh god I thought people like you only existed in /g/ memes.
>>722694794She pulls a key out of her throat and gives it to you
>>722703270NTA, but what the fuck is wrong with Brave, crystal disk or even core temp you schizo??last time i checked they all do their job just fine.I use Brave a ton of times, used the latter two a few times and it just werked
>>722694612Babe, NO! You're turning into a soljak!
>>722703198What filtered you? I’m still working on the hedge maze, so I’m not very far.

All of that happened after the shitty streamer boom from the 2010s and indieslop on steam. However it was also dying before when they wanted to westernize shit like RE and appeal to broader audience.
>>722703474popular = bad
>>722703707jesus fucking CHRIST
>>722694612reject new games and go play fatal frame

Guys this is totally random but please decide for me.Should I get an 8bitdo M30 or Slitterhead tonight? Please reply.
>>722706395I don’t know 8bitdo or M30 but I preordered a physical copy of slitterhead and it was pretty cool
>>722706637Did you play it? I played the demo earlier this year and I love it.Reason I ask is both are on sale right now for exactly the same time limit. I've wanted the controller too but it is a bit more expensive at $33 (Slitterhead is $29).So should I pull the trigger on Slitterhead then? Your next reply will push my decision.
>>722706395I haven't played Slitterhead but I do have an M30 and it's pretty nice if you like six button controllers. I have the white Saturn color one
>>722706986Shit this sounds good too.Someone... decide...
