The Choir sends out bugs to look for Weavers, could do it for other reasons too or he just happens to have ancestors who weren't Silk infused or maybe some people are just more naturally immune to it taking over
>>
>>722698937
>but the haunting is from the citadel injecting silk into its subjects
No, it's not. When GMS arrived, she spread her silk across most of the kingdom and put a little bit of her silk into most bugs, connecting them to her and the bugs also passed it down so it kinda became a part of them. This connection to GMS is what caused the haunting.
>but haunted bugs don't start raising until Hornet shows up
This is complete nonsense. The haunting began waaaaaaaay back. It's why the Weavers fucked off.

Because those bugs should have died, not because they caused the haunting itself. Pharloom is filled with haunted bugs outside of the Citadel, and again, the haunting is the whole reason the Weavers fucked off.

>>
>>722699539
Silk probably has a stronger connection to the Weavers because she personally uplifted them so maybe it was easier for to exert pressure on to them than it was for the other bugs until they started injecting more silk into themselves, I get the feeling the Citadel has been running as we see it for a reasonably long time that she can't have been mindcontrolling them the whole time

>>
>>722699995
No, anon, you're misunderstanding the whole situation. The haunting isn't a deliberate mindcontrol on GMS's part. She wasn't mindcontrolling the bugs when she infused the bugs across the kingdom with her silk, she just connected them to her and maybe instilled a desire to worship in them. The haunting began after the Weavers sealed her.

>>
>>722701027
Yes because once the haunting started to kick in, the Weavers dipped and the Conductors took over but it still took some time for the haunting to destroy the kingdom. Jesus bro, this isn't that complicated.
>GMS arrives
>she spreads her silk and infuses most bugs with it
>she ascends the Pharlids, turning them into Weavers
>First Sinner gets angry that she isn't actually GMS's daughter so she turns on her and GMS seals her for it
>Weavers later on manage to seal GMS and they rule Pharloom
>some amount of time later the haunting begins

Super telegraphed, stay away and then dash and punish after the second slash
>flying charge
just stay away as soon as they take flight and punish as soon as they land. Their attack distance is always the same, they are not like jumping enemies who can rubber band to you from across the hall
>thread storm
Also very telegraphed, stay away and then dash+punish at the end
>>
>>722700161
Relics, mementos and materium, no.
100% is solely about your upgrades. Tools, masks, crests, silk skills, silk spools, etc. Did you do the Red Memory main quest? There is an item you get from that which counts to completion%.
>>
>>722701496
Gms didn't infuse other bugs with silk until well after Pharloom was established, that was the purpose of the Whiteward.
The silk was to be used to artificially extend bugs lifespan so they could work as slaves for longer.

Whiteward soundtrack had no business being that creepy. Seriously the spookiest area in the game and it's like one of the smallest areas. The only area smaller is maybe the Wisp Thicket.
>>
>>722702252
Based, he had no actual fault of his own. It's not like he forced moths to worship him.
And unlike others, like Soul guys, he sacrificed his own children for the sake of the kingdom. His only problem was that he was such a good parent to Hollow Knight.

Ironically, with Silksong, we even have a ironic counter to Pale King.

Pale King: Creates his children as a tool for a single purpose, accidentally becomes a good parent
Grand Mother Silk: Wants a child to love, but they leave, get imprisoned permanently, left to rot away and the current one, Lace, thinks she is just a tool and will be replaced by Hornet.

Silk is a girlfailure all the way.
>>
If I go to the abyss now can I continue collected the rest of the mementos after I get the ending?
>>

>>
>>722703043

I think the Pale King should have fucked Grand Mother Silk and given her a baby since GMS wanted one so much.
>>
>>722703559
GMS is such a bad parent, she somehow managed to alienate all the children she created with the explicit purpose of having a child to love and care.
...while managing to ruin her own kingdom.

But she is hot...
>>
>>722696065
Shitty parent aside , almost nothing? The absolute horrendous caste system of the citadel isn't her fault, nor is it's construction. In fact the conductors/weavers used her sleeping form as a way to harvest silk. And injected it into everyone giving her a backdoor to cause the haunting. Weavers did waaaay worse than her
>>
>>722703018
>Silk is a girlfailure all the way.

>>
>>722703713
Nah, Weaver obeyed Silk until they rebelled and ran away. Then the trio of Architects, Conductors and ...whatever assumed the mantle of rules but as the Last Conductor points out, even when they tried to resist GMS, she was in control.

>>
>>722704935
I admittedly have different standards for Silk as a character, because she's clearly meant to be a Radiance stand-in for the story, so by contrast her character has a lot more to read into than Radiance. While Radiance just has her hatred shown through the infection, Silk has that similar rage contrasted more with her motivation to keep lace safe, her control over bugs is shown to go beyond just mindlessly attacking others, and the contrast between how much she wanted to bring Hornet down with her to lending her power to Hornet at her lowest point.

I deride Lace because she's competing with Hornet's character arc in Hollow Knight, which was simple but was tangible. Lace has no real character arc that's easily read, which only makes Silk's own character arc more poignant despite it being so simple.

Whiteward was created so they wouldn't run out of bugs to keep singing the song. The sign where you get the surgeon's key explains that.

The weaver sign at the shrine in mosshome that's hidden behind a newer sign confirms the weavers were still around when the descendants of the whiteward bugs, "born in the web" were making the pilgrimage.

fair point , I'd have at least expected Lace to have dialogue after Phantom desu, as for Silk I don't think Silk hates anyone, which is surprising, They forget your heart, bound in slumber and servitude,

When you wake they shall see your truth,

A beast's nature bare to all.
reads as her being mad about being forced in servitude, but then you get the silkheart about the haunting and:

...Their voices... Their song... ...Their memory... ...Bind their shells... ...Bind their souls... ...Bind them all... ...Raise them... Up... ...To devote... Eternal... ...One mind... One union... …They are ours… Bound forever…

I'm a lorelet. Who rendered her useless and why? Also why is she the only live Weaver we meet in Pharloom? I know that some of them stayed in Pharloom and went into hiding (I'm assuming those are the ones who Hornet gets the Silk skills from). Is there something special about Widow inherently?

>tell them you are their biological parent
Even that's an assumption. She called them her daughters but I do not recall it stating anywhere that Silk themselves claimed the weavers were her biological daughters.
It comes off more that the weavers assumed it themselves and then chimped out when their assumption turned out wrong.
Also leaving out that she made these spiders the ruling caste and, to our knowledge, did nothing bad to them until they turned on her.

It depends on certain things you do
You learn his name if you have enough conversations with him after various progress checkpoints within the game
If you do the Skull Tyrant wish in act 1, speak to him, and then sit at the bench a second tyrant will usually attack the village and kill him. There will be a funeral afterwards.
If you save the Skull Tyrant wish for act 2, OR simply avoid sitting at the bone bottom bench after completing it until act 2,Pilby will have begun his pilgrimage so he won't be there to die to the attack, so no funeral.
>>
>>722708505
I'm more inclinded to believe it's the Conductors trying to keep their rule going for as long as possible but I dunno, the Citadel looks dead until GMS awakens everyone with her silk so how would they be controlling anyone to send people out, also the Conductor is guarded by the gauntlet of silk-infused enemies so how does that work
>>
>>722708675
This is good gameplay in spite of using Beast Crest, not really because of it. I do like it's Down attack in combat, though I found it weirdly annoying when platforming, I just think no Blue tools is a really harsh drawback, especially when that Tool group has a lot more entries that feel distinctly beastly, like the Longclaw.

Again this is mostly just capitalizing on extremely good knowledge of the enemies behavior, which is a strong point of the Beastclaw but something only situationally useful if you're going through the game more organically and playing less aggressively. The guy in this webm is probably able to destroy any boss fairly easily with any Crest, the Beast Crest just facilitates particularly fast bursts of damage.

Widow's story likely goes something like this:
>Child of a Weaver who left the Citadel, probably doesn't know anything about Silk or the Weaver's history
>Get's captured by Chorus members, is bound, crippled, and enslaved by the conductors and forced to produce silk for an unknown amount of time
>Probably learns about Silk and the Weaver's during this time and builds up additional resentment since she's the descendant of god being forced to serve the mortals
>Silk starts the Haunting which allows Widow to escape, and given what's happened to her and what she's learned becomes a full-on Silk devotee, partially for revenge and possibly in order to get some form of validation from her.

If it makes you feel any better, the first 5 of those Lost Lace tries were me using a Crest I'd never used before (Architect) in an attempt to cheese her, so it's more like 6 real tries. She, with Reaper Crest, took me fewer attempts than Last Judge, Groal the Great, and Savage Beastfly 2.

Karmelita kicked my ass so hard that I ended up turning into a Gamer God by the time I won. The one and only boss to ever take me more tries than Karmelita was Absolute Radiance.

My theory is that Widow was one of the Weavers that was granted divinity by GMS and is the one that helped free GMS from her silk cocoon, allowing the Haunting to start, and in the process being punished by having her mask torn off and her silk sealed. So in return, she uses GMS' silk as her own.

As far as I've pieced together, the Conductors are trying to keep Pharloom functioning after locking up GMS and they desperately need more silk. They can't use GMS' silk since a) she's locked up in gay baby jail, and b) she would mind control them.

And yet, because of the need to have the Chorus operating 24/7, they need more silk to keep the city copacetic. So they send out members of the Chorus to kidnap Weavers to milk for silk in a vain effort to keep the city functioning. GMS is obviously still capable of creating more silk and creating more Weavers, so she'd have 0 reason to send out the Faithful to kidnap 1/4th or 1/8th weavers.

Nigga the pogo hits ABOVE Hornet with Longclaw. It's easily the best crest in the game for platforming, and for bosses it's still not bad since it has the healing passive and still has its incredible range. You can easily clip bosses with hits you wouldn't be able to land with any other crest and then back off before getting hit. That's especially important late game when the other crests (besides Wanderer) aren't getting more than 1 hit in in a punish window anyway so it's got the same DPS as all of them while still keeping its insane range.

Apparently their instincts as Pale Beings would naturally lead them to compete in nearly all cases.

The Pale King didn't have children until it was required, so if other Wyrms are like the Pale King they're probably childless unless it was for deal struck, like with Herrah.

The Pale King and the White Lady are honestly just weird.
The Pale King adopted a tiny form and the White Lady has actively been restraining her power.
They had less desire to rule as Pale Beings and more to rule as King and Queen.
Honestly the best explanation is simply that they loved each other.

>Hornet: In the ward down below, I saw it clear, the hollowed husks, and the many torturous implements... machines to instill a bug with thread, that would see their life extended.
>Caretaker: Aye! That's it, in part! But there's more scale to it than all that. Just think of'em greedily shoving the Silk into their shells, the madness that overcame them, eternal life for mortal bugs! Then think on how long it's all gone on...
>Hornet: ...The children born of them, and all the pilgrims after... The Silk has seeded deep into this kingdom's shells, generations deep...No wonder Pharloom's bugs proved such easy prey for that haunted thread. It had only to seek for itself to reach them.
GMS didn't infuse the bugs with silk, dumbasses did it to themselves. Also, the Weavers didn't leave because of the Haunting, they staged a falseflag to pass rule over to Conductors who thought they were overthrowing the Weavers. Probably because they knew the seals wouldn't last forever but the Haunting didn't explicitly happen yet.

>Conductor Ballador: The mantle of rule, claimed greedily from Pharloom's fading first children, those bitter Weavers... it was yoke, not crown.
>Rune Harp: "Sisters, spiders, the burden is passed. These simple bugs shall bear it full. Never to cease. Never to silence. We shall die, and wait, and pray, that one may come of silken strength enough to weave us free."

I don't get the logic in this. Like what does the Tram especially say about the Pale King trying to integrate Deepnest compared to, say, the fact that he nutted fucking deep into Herrah's spussy and gave them a demigod princess that was dutied to protect Hallownest for eternity. That's more classic vassal shenanigans.
>>
>>722715917
From what I can tell, they did so long after GMS had been sealed. They were prey for The Haunting because they were trying to extend their lifespans to keep the Chorus going and accidentally polluted every other living creature in the kingdom making them easy prey when GMS' prison started falling apart.

Kinda like how the Radiance was leaking her Fanta to mind control bugs into killing Hollow Knight and freeing her.

When they say they want to "decolonize" something, it means they want to remake it in the image of Gay Race Communism.

Top that off with the Pale King being Hornet's biological father and them universally having daddy issues and you can see why they hate the Pale Chad. It's more apt to say all the bugs would've been left scurrying the waste....but then 99% of them are now zombies or also living in huts. Even the White Lady is basically in a hut now.

Basically, all Pale King's civilization amounted to was Eternal Emilitia getting to be smug in her apartment

She's the only one remaining in the kingdom. There are surely other moths out there that decided to fuck off when the kingdom fell.

The Seer is like those darkies that are old enough to remember Rhodesia and just sit around in the fallen Zimbabwe wishing the white men would come back and rule the place for them.

NTA but
>Also, the Weavers didn't leave because of the Haunting, they staged a falseflag
The Weavers that left were the ones from Weavenest Cindril and those ones left long long before any of that, but they did leave because of GMS, as per the Rune Harp you find there:
>"Flee, sisters. Flee until your strength exhausts, so far you may escape at last her silken sight. To start anew, to sustain, free of web and service eternal."
This dates from the time before the Weavers ruled, they weren't one unified group, there were factions trying to solve the GMS problem.
Eva for example seems to have been an attempt to replace her with a God of their own making.

Although, the Pale King has less of an excuse, given that gods are very much real in Hollow Knight's world, and he'd know this because he is one. AFAIK, he knew that Radiance was going to be mad, but he thought he could still win the fight. But then some of the bugs, like the Traitor Lord, started siding with the Radiance and turned the tides of the battle. Radiance more or less returned bugs back to nature by deleting the mind that Pale King had gifted them while also turning them into infectious zombies that spread the mind-deleting marmalade.

It's more akin to what's happening in Africa right now where civilization is collapsing, causing refugees who flee to other countries causing them to collapse. All the natives are returning back to their pre-colonial tribal states

>The Pale King told them he'd be able to throw hands with the Radiance when he took over. It's not their fault that he's more bitchmade than the queen of floof.
He did fight the Radiance off when taking over. That's how he ended up building up Hallownest. But she came back with the Infection, and the Traitor Mantises deliberately infected themselves and betrayed Hallownest to side with Radiance.
>no no, ACTUALLY you won't all die because I failed to live up to my own hype, you'll just lose all your lands and be exiled to the ends of the Earth where none will likely ever be able to see you ever again
They weren't exiled, they just left the fallen kingdom like how the Weavers left Pharloom. They saw shit going down so they abandoned Hallownest, all with the exception of the Seer.

Even if they were common bugs they were still the lords of the kingdom. You really expect the ruling class to do anything but desperately cling to power, especially when the one they'd be ceding it to is literally a God who would probably smite them just to put them back in their place, and that's before she learns they've been capturing and enslaving her children and their descendants. Even if she's upset at the Weavers that would still piss her off.

The Cradle was being run by the Conductors too. That's GMS' prison, and it's why you need the Threefold Song to access it. Only Conductor Ballador knew his part of the Threefold Song by the time of the game, and thus only someone with the blessing of the Conductor could've brought the cages up to The Cradle.

You could say they would come in from above, but the Choir goes through Blasted Steps rather than through Nameless Village. They were obviously heading for The Grand Gate which would've brought them right past High Halls where the Conductors are.

The counterpoint is that there's no logical reason why or how she would be able to. Why would she even be after weaver-spawn? She doesn't need silk, she literally is Silk. Even if she did, the Haunting lets her control bugs instinctually, but she's not conscious enough to give them such detailed and written instructions. Even if she could, the bugs that were sent out to capture Hornet and the rest went far outside of Pharloom, way outside the range where Silk would be able to control them. The Conductors being behind it just makes more sense.

GMS wasn't producing much silk since she was locked up. They needed silk so much they had the workers in Grey Moor dredge silk falling from the Citadel so they could reuse it. If they didn't need silk, they wouldn't have a slave caste being hunted by Moorwing if they dare leave their posts.

In the cut bad end there was a variant of the “Lace interrupts the fight” scene where she actually didn’t show up. As a result, GMS successfully captured Hornet.

The end result was fusion, presumably a fusion with GMS mind on top. In the current vanilla end where you just go slap Grandmas shit we can see they fuse, but maybe we are supposed to understand that one as a fusion with Hornet coming out on top.

My assumption is that GMS evolving through fusion is a good way to escape/upgrade her current situation.

Sure they would. That slave caste did all sorts of shit. You can read the Oaths of Fealty, they sent tons of stuff as tithe to the Citadel.

Pause to consider, we meet 3 weavers (apart from GMS) in Silksong. First Sinner, Widow, Eva. Not a god damn ONE of them is enslaved to produce silk. We don’t meet a single Weaver held in captivity in the Citadel hooked up to some silk production machine. You got the goddamn Unravelled living in 10 foot trash pit of waste silk in a hole at the bottom of an abandoned surgical ward, but I’m expected to believe silk supplies are so tight they need to capture Hornet to hook her up to some sort of milking machine?

Nah. GMS wants her Weavers back. She’s salty that she got Parent Trapped into the big sleep and she’s planning to come back and ground some motherfuckers over it. She’s a God, the idea that a Weaver in eighth part isn’t “really her child” doesn’t track. All weavers are her children. Hornet is MAYBE an exception just because her other parent is a different Pale Being.
>>

I agree. I think it should only serve as insight as to where Team Cherry’s head was at with several of their endings. While that variant of bad end got cut, I think it was probably cut because it rehashes effectively what you get out of the normal ending.

The majority of the information brought to light there is still essentially in the game, just not in that way.

Nigger do you have any fucking clue how goddamn massive the map is?

I didn’t ask you for excuses.

Overbearing Mother reading vindicated again
>>
>>722720796
no one's asking you to do a second pass of the whole map. you were supposed to do a better job of sweeping each area the first time you came upon them

The BUGS were singing to keep GMS asleep. That's literally the whole point of the citadel. So GMS is talking about binding the BUGS. The Weavers did not want to make a hivemind, why would they want one mind?
>>
>>722706372
But it's not like Hornet breaks the cocoon she just challenges it to a fight.
>>
>>722721015
Yeah, but I think anyone who played game 1 should understand how this occurs.

Sealing gods is a shit plan. It didn’t work on Radiance. It didn’t work on GMS in the Cradle. It didn’t work throwing GMS in the void.

Sealing gods is a shit tier plan in the world of Hollow Knight.

NTA but shut the fuck up anon this is Metroidvania. The genre is all about second and third passing the whole map after every new upgrade.
I can't count how many times I went back into Greymoor in my 40h playtrough looking for something I knew was there. Didn't find shit, except craft station and shortcut to Styx. The rest was just plot stuff unrelated to upgrades, like craws, verdania or the cast out surgeon

>>722720980
>The BUGS were singing to keep GMS asleep. That's literally the whole point of the citadel
Don't buy it, you're making shit up hoping it makes enough sense, the Weavers imprisoned her themselves without having to rely on song
>>
>>722721127
Shit tier plan in the long term sure, but for the short time those bugs got to live the good life
>>
>>722721127
>It didn’t work throwing GMS in the void.
It would have worked eventually. That said the void isn't a seal, it devours gods, it doesn't seal them.
>>
>>722721239
That’s the crux of the fuckup that groups like the Weavers or characters like the Pale King revolve around.

They settled for the “Works for now.” Until eventually it didn’t work for shit, by then their options are either die, submit or bail.
>>
>>722721363
You are right, yeah. The Void isn’t a seal. However I’d argue the retarded fuckin Snail Shamans don’t actually care about that and used it like one anyway.

The idea was probably supposed to be that she’d die, not cocoon herself under the void sea me waterlogged with Void. It’s possible the Void couldn’t overpower GMS because she was holding together said cocoon to postpone Lace being absorbed by the dark, since GMS quietly uses herself and her cocoon both as fuel for Hornet’s post fight escape.
>>
>>722721228
Why do you say that? From what I gather, the Weavers used song to put her to sleep, that’s what the Conductors, choir, etc. were for.

When the Weavers fucked off, the Conductors realized they were stuck, they had their foot on the proverbial landmine so they couldn’t move an inch. They had to keep the song going, even though the ones who wanted them to do it had all disappeared, because they knew how royally fucked they’d all be if GMS did fully awaken.

As society deteriorated post-Weaver-exodus, the song weakened, and the bind on GMS weakened. This enabled her to create her new silk children, and those children (namely Lace) oversaw the further weakening of the old order to help her fully wake the fuck back up.

They were bringing her Weavers and keeping them trapped in cages. They had an “enemies closer” approach, nobody was gonna come back around and strengthen the song again. Weavers were brought and bound via pins into servitude, like Widow, or kept fully chained like Sinner. The bells would be deadened, the gates would be sealed, new pilgrims barred entry, and the ones who remained would be forced to support the awakening because they now relied entirely on GMS for life because silk was the only thing keeping them ageless.
>>
>>722721604
I think the idea was that her power was running out, but pharloom would be dust by the time that happened, which is why Hornet's rushing to fix it now. The snails were hoping that it would be instant, not that the whole kingdom would be destroyed with her
>>
>>722721750
>the Weavers used song to put her to sleep
Prove that one and I'll believe whatever else it was you wrote
>>
>>722721152
bro... you're map markers...?
>>
>>722721604
It’s difficult to tell because void is void, but I always assumed when you see GMS in the void cocoon, she’s mostly black not because of the void, but because she’s threadbare. Her body is a giant silk spool and it’s almost entirely empty when you get down there; she looks “bound” but all that silk is her using her own body to generate the cocoon. She’s dying down there, giving her life force to the last drop to try to keep Lace in a protective bubble. The void is absolutely winning.
>>
>>722721887
I can’t prove it, it just seems to be heavily implied. The society we find is the one the weavers constructed, no? They’re still remembered, the society is still silk-based. You think the entire hierarchy of their society is named for a chorus, with Conductors at the top holding a sacred melody, and their holy soldiers being Choristos, Choir Clappers, etc., because they WEREN’T building all of Pharloom up around the need to perpetuate a gigantic society-sized lullaby? What’s the alternative, that the Conductors themselves made ALL that shit up only after every Weaver left? That… doesn’t make sense. Why would the Conductors, who don’t know dick about silk except via secondhand knowledge, concoct a plot to sing GMS to sleep from whole cloth and then rebrand society around it IMMEDIATELY as the Weavers left and GMS was waking up? There’s no sensible continuity there.
>>
It's baked.

>Hornet: You speak of the Citadel? Its former function has failed, but I can still sense its purpose, some. It is church and cage both.
Mask Maker: Aye. Devised by your ancestors that monstrosity, and their wicked, clever minds. A system, or a web they'd likely call it, a way to keep their mother sealed in slumber, and themselves free to lavish in their false rule.
The citadel has systems like the conductors, valutkeepers, and architects to KEEP GMS SEALED. That's the reason it was created. And I shouldn't have to tell you that conductors (conduct the song), vaultkeepers (who keep melodies), and architects (who keep the machinery running) have to do with song
>>
>>722722162
So your whole plot point is based on a naming convention
>>
>>722722263
Yeah, basically. And the fact that the entire city is built atop a gigantic organ, and all of the locks are based on musical bells. It’s very deeply ingrained in their entire culture. The game is called SILKSONG for fuck’s sake. The song is like the entire plot. It keeps GMS asleep. The song faltering and weakening is how she awakens.
>>
>>722722382
>The game is called SILKSONG
Ok you know what that convinced me, I just, I can accept a lot of the bullshit in this game like musical gates and whatnot but actually singing to keep someone asleep is too much
>>
Is Wanderer better at parrying since the attack is faster?

So why are some fleas retarded?

They're so fluffy that they're basically indestructible. Evolution never had to grace them with intelligence as a survival mechanism.

yes, decently often you can just mash through multi-hit attacks

they're all retarded
