Bit of a longshot ask, but does anyone here know a good hosting bot program for pre-reforged Warcraft 3? Something like what ENTConnect has, where when you connect you're not actually hosting the game, and instead it's a neutral server, so it's roughly guaranteed to be more stable and a more neutral ping.

Most of my searching has generally lead to programs instead trying to act like a master server or a hosting bot for managing lobbies, rather than actually hosting the game itself, or it's muddled by links to what seems to be what I'm looking for but is for ancient programs from almost 20 years ago that by now have had a lot of their links for setups, downloads, or how to use them depreciated.

-save
and it would generate a code, usually 16-25 characters, numeric or alphanumeric
You screenshot that, and next game you type
-load <the code you were given> and it regenerates your character.
Somewhere before the reforged pile of shit updates they added the ability to have -save write directly to a text file to save you the effort, but you still need to at least type -load at the start.

1. The code is hashed by your user name, so it won't work for anyone else.
2. The code is incomprehensible, compressed/encrypted and a bad load won't work

Pic related is one of my favorite TDs. I'm honestly surprised that there isn't a stand alone game of it.

Fun fact - both the map maker and the artist who did the portraits were hired direct by Blizz; I believe they would also marry. This is why both the portraits and the name/icon added the Blizz logo like included, in later versions of the map. You may notice that the staff Skibi is holding looks familiar to what would come to WoW. In addition, the artist and map maker would work on WoW and get items named after them; I forget the mapmaker's but the artist's is referenced with "Khoo's Point"

Oh as far as some other maps I preferred back in the original WC3:FT days, there were many Lord of the Rings maps, especially Helm's Deep's battle from The Two Towers (given the movie had just released), but the really impressive ones were based on the books but I forget the specific name...

Its one where each player had a different army under their command, some big some small. Red as Gondor, Blue as Rohan which both had not only named heroes like Denethor, Faramir (I think?), and Theoden, but a lot of varied soldiers. Yellow was basically "Nature" and had Treebeard, the Eagles, Radagast The Brown, Tom Bombadil and Goldberry with lots of woodland creatures. I don't remember who else was in Teal, but I know Cirdan the Shipwright was there. I think Orange was Lorien with Galadriel and Celeborn along with a ton of elves...maybe Mirkwood elves too? Purple was special ,they were JUST the Fellowship - all heroes! I forget some of the others on the side of Good, but I remember Evil had Brown as Mordor with a fuckload of orcs/uruks, Shelob, and of course the Eye of Sauron. DarkGreen was MinasMorgul, with the Nazgul as its heroes. Pink was Moria, which had Gollum and the Balrog, etc, Gray was the Easterlings/Corsairs, etc

No room, but there was also a Silmarillion version too!

Anyone remember the name of that one custom map that uses the snow/Northrend terrain set where it was humans vs dragons, both operated by players?
Humans had to build up realistic-esque armies to stave off the dragons and there was manual alliance-changing enabled, so sometimes you’d see dragons and humans teaming up for whatever reason. I don’t think there was any win condition, goal, or point to the map other than to fuck around and fight shit.

Dark Deeds and Who's The Werewolf/Werewolf: Transylvania.
Those two specific rts games, within an rts game, with up to a dozen players where 1 random player at night is picked to be some kind of evil entity and everybody else has to survive, build a militia army, while managing an agrarian economy, were all 12/10. As a kid they were all I wanted to play. I wasn't even any good at it, I just thought they were that good.
It's feels really bad that this specific concept never caught on or expanded into its' own independent indie game.

For Warcraft 3? People still play, but most naturally move on. More generally, at least in StarCraft 2, Blizzard royally fucked custom games up with the editor TOS declaring everything made as property of Blizzard and the completely retarded custom game matchmaking which made sure that for a year or more, people only played the first few custom games that were made because you could not find anyone to play anything else. They later somewhat fixed it with lobbies, but the damage was already done.

Custom games were primarly a thing because there weren't enough games out yet. Now you can play your retarded tower defense on your phone or 999 agi hero with crit evasion power fantasy in roguelikes. Although some poverty people still play wc3 customs.

Curse of the Forsaken and Rise of the Blood Elves are both good classic style campaigns.
To The Bitter End is pretty cool but also really difficult. You control several heroes each with 4 set useable artifacts, maps are pretty well done with neat bossfights and in some cases you must consult the manual to understand what the fuck is going on and why the enemy refuses to die. I've never beaten the final battle.
Return of the Dragon is my personal favorite, fully voiced, lots of custom shit, maps are heavily scripted, it has some features I've never seen in any other map. However as a result it's also pretty janky, using save/load can be dangerous and there may be bugs with scripts, and you'll need to find a fixed version for modern versions of the game, I think it was in the hiveworkshop thread somewhere.

Can't remember the details but there's one base survival PvE, I think space marine vs space bugs theme (?) custom map. All I remember that it was pretty hard for me at the time, there's 2 choices of wall to be built - 1 self healing wall and the other one is high hp wall where you will build another building (or robots?) to repair the wall. Also there's a scripted reinforcement event where the troops just end up getting wiped out.

Also wilderness survival was pretty fun
