Finished pic related today. It was fucking awesome. Are there more games like this that you played and recommend?
>>722723652>Are there more games like thisNot that I can think of, unfortunately. You only get to experience Missile once.
>>722723652It's a fucking magical game, man.Hotel Dusk: Room 215 is the only thing that's come close for me, but I honestly think it's just because the two games just occupy the same headspace for me. I'm not sure how analogous they really are. I'd still recommend it regardless, but I won't hard say it's more Ghost Trick like you're asking for.
>>722723652Ace Attorney is the same writer if you've somehow never played those games before Ghost Trick.
>>722723652is the remaster good?
>>722723652>Are there more games like thisNot really, that's sort of the problem.Ace Attorney and Hotel Dusk have already been mentioned. They're more of visual novels with some point-and-click elements than what Ghost Trick did, but they're pretty good and done by the same people. I enjoyed Time Hollow on the DS quite a bit, but that one isn't as popular as some other options.
>>722726220No such thing, its the same game with more resolution, so yes, its fucking great
>>722723652fuck i have been meaning to get to this. are the payoffs are large as some of the cases in ace attorney 1-3?
>>722723652Weirdly, I just finished my third, maybe fourth playthrough about an hour ago. I can't remember if I beat it twice or just once on my original DS, but my next playthrough was about a month or two ago on the remaster, followed by my run just now on a cobbled-together DSi I assembled like a week ago.God-tier game. Hot take but I still think they could've come up with a way to make a sequel without having to cheapen the OG. Sissel himself could probably carry a short series, ngl.>>722726220>higher res, higher-FPS graphics, mostly good but reveals a couple minor quirks that were hidden by the DS's screen res>music remastered, but otherwise untouched (toggleable)>added art on the sides of the screen that you can change out, since modern screens are widescreen>added these kinda dumb sliding tile puzzles, which IIRC came from the iOS port that Apple bought permanent exclusivity for because Apple is evil as shit>added achievements (including some for the slide puzzles, which is stupid.)>added tons of concept art and full-screen art and such>extended the credits with a simple animation that's kinda cute, to cover the new people that did the remasterTL;DR: it's basically just the original game but nicer and with more polish, but untouched gameplay. Up to you if that's worth it or not.>>722727661>payoffsIf you mean like, "do all the plot points end nicely", then yeah, though the game does throw like three loredumps at you at the end of the game. They're GOOD loredumps, but they're pushing SUPER late into the game and clogs up the flow a little.I suppose there is a little plothole about some of the details regarding an... "antagonist faction", though.Still one of my favorite stories in vidya though, and Missile >>722725330 is 100% the best dog in all of vidya. What's cool is replaying the game because then you can see the various ways the game hinted at a few things WAY in advance; even the first chapter's full of "oh my god"s on a replay.
>>722727661>are the payoffs are large as some of the cases in ace attorney 1-3?Yes, definitely. It's the main draw of the game. The biggest difference is that Ghost Trick is one extended story, as opposed to individual case stories that tie together like with Ace Attorney.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUq8-irgHUU
>>722723652Hotel dusk for more DS kino.
>>722726220>>722728823It's good but there are a few cutscenes and even gameplay mechanics the original used the DS's second screen for, that obviously had to be adapted around or removed.>camera having to pan upwards to show you a thing that would be on the top screen>trick action info that was instantly visible during gameplay now requires you to stop for a second before popping up a tooltip. I've seen people rush and go right past the spot they need to use many times thanks to that>there's nothing that shows you the just the silhouette of an object. Which can be annoying in a few situations
>>722729656>camera having to pan upwards to show you a thing that would be on the top screenGhost Trick on DS never shows any of the gameplay scene on the top screen, so this is false. The top screen either only shows the game's logo during non-interactive parts, or gameplsy information like which object you're possessing, which trick you can perform with them, or some details in the Phone Book. The only instance where the dual screen is used in any meaningful way is at the end of the credits, to show you two simultaneous images.
>>722725859>>722723652>>722727005>>722729038Hotel Dusk is incredible, except for the dog shit story and character writing. The vibes are off the charts and the tone and pacing are pedestrian in a strangely engaging and grounded way, the art style is amazing, the music is kind of eh but the DS crunch brings a certain charm to it, the gameplay is a collection of endearing early DS gimmicky mini games and puzzles, the localization is actually quite good with the US version going for a hard-boiled 80s tone. It would have been a no brainer recommendarion of not for how stupidly convenient some of the plot points are and how dumb most characters behave. I don't think I cared about a single character other than Kyle, not even Mila or that one guy's daughter.
>>722728823>Hot take but I still think they could've come up with a way to make a sequel without having to cheapen the OG.It's funny, Wikipedia used to have a weird comment by Takumi he said in 2013 about it having a crossover sequel with Ace Attorney where Phoenix would die and Sissel would be the prosecutor or something very strange. It's been replaced now with him saying "yeah a sequel would be hard" since 2023.
>>722729656#1 never happens, the top screen is only used for info and for showing the game's logo. I'm actually surprised the game never did the "upper camera" thing like a lot of other DS games did, some levels could've used it. (The prison escape.)#2, kinda agree, but I think you're overblowing it a little. Having the game tell you what something does before you do it was a nice QoL thing the remake lost, but there's really not enough clutter in the game for it to be that big of an issue, and failing a couple times while you figure shit out is a good thing in puzzle-type games like this, especially since the game's loaded with extra dialogue for doing things wrong or completely failing.#3, ehh, you don't need it nearly as much in high-def as you did on a 256x192 screen. It was nice that the OG gave you such a perfectly aligned picture to figure out silhouettes, but it almost made it too easy sometimes, and you don't really use "green mode" that much anyway, so it's not a big loss.
>>722725859The Hotel Dusk sequel was a goddamn masterpiece. Disgusting how it didn't get released in the US
tfw you realize the reason why you can't read anything in this game is because you're a fucking cat
>>722725859>>722723652Hotel Dusk utilises the DS well and has some clever puzzle solutions like closing the DS, but it's not as funny as Ghost Trick and the charm is more in the hand drawn pencil artstyle. Ghost Trick excels in all areas - puzzles, animation, plot, humour and music. Hotel Dusk has some absolutely bullshit puzzles where it feels like you're doing something wrong but you haven't tapped the exact part of the screen it wants you to, which lets it down. >>722732758Melissa must be protected at all costs.
gaming peaked with the DS
>>722736260no youre not
>>722737306okay im stupid i guess you are the cat. i havent played this game in 20 years i dont remember that bit at all
>>722736260to be fair animals are way too smart in this game, technically everything in the good outcome happens thanks to missile
>>722723652When i finished it realized that Both Sissel and Yomiel were jerks and that Old Missile is the true hero
>>722733751Phoenix and Sissel in the Alfendi Layton style from Layton Brothers. That's some good shit.
>>722735415That quote was from a random interview where Takumi jokingly went along with the interviewer trying to imagine what the sequel would look like. It was never meant to be taken seriously. Always annoyed me how much value people put on that one out of context answer, just cause some moron decided to cite it on Wikipedia. Takumi was once asked about that quote and he had no recollection of that answer. Goes to show how meaningless of a prospect it really was.
>>722723652The DS era was the peak for those kind of adventure games. If you're asking for similiar gameplay, I can't really think of anything else. But definitely check out Another Code, Hotel Dusk and Last Window.
>>722735506Last Window is a better execution of the exact same idea that is explored in Hotel Dusk, but with some of the rough edges filed off. I swear, Last Window feels like a remake of Hotel Dusk at times with slightly more streamlining and higher production values but without that messy charm of the original. I agree LW is better, but I respect HD more.
>>722736828I meant that OTHER daughter whom I purposefully didn't mention by name because of spoilers.
What's Takumi been up to since finishing GAA? I haven't heard anything about him since.
>>722723652Great game, seconding >>722727005 in addition to Hotel Dusk and Another Code as other mentioned, it's really the closest thing to Ghost Trick in themes at least.Though to be honest I barely remember anything from it outside of>the layabout uncle >everyone in this small japanese town killing themselves/each other at the slightest inconvenience leaving you to use time travel to prevent their sperg-outs>especially one JK killing another over something trivial>the bad guy having the same time-travelling pen as the MC, but I can't remember anything else about him, I think he had a sob story or something>the main girl actually being the layabout uncle's dead time-travelling waifu from high schoolit was a weird game, I should replay it.>>722737220I remember thinking these kind of puzzle-adventure/mystery-solving games would become a staple of gaming back then, that they would only get better and more numerous as time goes on.Take me back.
