My first Zelda was the first Zelda.I am old. When I heard a 3D Zelda was coming out, I was hoping for something that didn't end up happening until BOTW. Say what you will about Egoraptor -- especially now -- but he's right about OoT. Looking around the room for a thing to shoot isn't really a fun puzzle. And the Iron Knuckles are the only fun fights. The rest of the fights are monuments to WAITING. The game averages out to great overall. But what you people are truly praising is the air that existed at the time. The wonder, and the inability to look shit up on the fly that you can now. It doesn't exist anymore. So you attribute that air, to the game itself. But GOAT it is not. Wind Waker is better. Link to the Past is better. BOTW is better.

OOT isn't a good game, but the level design is decent. If you compare the dungeons in OOT, the way they are structured and such, with the experimental levels in Mario 64, you can see how fast everything was evolving at that time, even in the philosophy of level design for 3D environments.OOT needed to be much bolder to be a good game, though. It's handholding from start to finish. There's a total absence of danger and enemies. There's a total absence of lore. When I was a kid, I desperately talked to all the NPCs trying to find something interesting, but there's absolutely nothing there. Majora's Mask, which came later, appealed to me so much more precisely because it gave the NPCs some personality, some function, and thus created a world with some depth to be explored, even if it was a depth in the narrative part.
