When is everyone finally going to admit they waited 7 years for a sequel to Getting Over It.
>>
baby steps is pretty good tho
>>
>>722812629
>waited 7 years
People didn't wait 7 years for Silksong, they waited 2 years then gave up on it. Everyone had accepted that it wasn't coming out long before it got a release date.
>>
malding manuel's rapid fire review said it was tedious so i will not be purchasing
>>
>>722812629
I think they took some inspiration from Celeste, actually
>>
>>722812629
>he didn't just get into HK a week prior to SS release due to the hype
>>
I like going up in platformers more than going down because dropping means rapid falling and that means no time to react to what is under you. big issue with spelunky, minor issue with hollow knight. so I appreciate the upwards aspect of silksong
>>
>>722812629
If your experience with platforming on Silksong is comparable to Getting Over It, all I can say is holy fucking shit dude you suck at video games
>>
>>722813060
Tedious is the best way to describe Silksong, absolutely. This was true for the original too, but not to this extent. The game is too big and too empty for its own good, with such a gap between meaningful upgrades you simply get tired of the base gameplay formula midway through act 2 where the game stops evolving anyhow.
>>
>>722812629
genuninley don't like this and I was a huge fan of HK. also, like most things, the community has turned to absolute shit. this game took everything great about HK, gender swapped most of the cast and made it as anti-fun as possible. custom made for autistic troons. fuck this series.it's actually made me retroactivley like HK less too which is such a shame.

my new rule is never engage in sequels, if you like the original, pretend nothing else exists and it's just non-canaon fan shit. you can apply it to everything.
>>
>>722812629
I finally understand the "we had fun developing the game" argument the devs made. What they meant was we "we got so angry at people pestering us to fulfill our obligations to the people who bought the kickstarter that we developed something to waste the time of everybody involved".
>>
>>722818046
>>722813060
>Tedious
Even ignoring fast travel, you can travel from one corner of the world map to the opposite corner in but a few minutes.
What's meant to be tedious about the game? You're swift as fuck. And the traversal of the world is fun.

>extremely unrewarding, 80% of caches just contain a few rosaries or shell shards (a half will spill over on nearby spikes), actual upgrades are insanely spread out, can barely muster a single mask upgrade within the entire chapter 1
>to make things worse, several upgrade types got greatly devalued between games, charm notches were always gameplay changing in HK, memory shards become "whatever" less than midway through, spool upgrades are sabotaged by how shit the new resource management system is
>constantly forced to thread and re-thread the same environments, even if it's for a few minutes at a time, it stacks out with a map so huge, boring and empty, simply moving between settlements wastes several minutes of your time on static animations
>no reward for beating 90% of the bosses and gauntlets, not even a shell shard refund
>a monumental shitload of insanely dull fetch quests and you NEED to do them to enter act 3, you also need to engage with the courier system if you want to upgrade your nail and it's a complete ass as well
>act 3 itself is a monumental disappointment with barely any changes to the overworld
>>
>>722821094
>80% of caches just contain a few rosaries or shell shards
You and I both know this is far from the truth.
>memory shards become "whatever" less than midway through
Memory Lockets remain huge all the way until the end game. If not for expanding the crests themselves, then at least for the vesti-crests and sylph song that Eva gives you alongside upgrading your Hunter Crest.
>spool upgrades are sabotaged by how shit the new resource management system is
Spool upgrades are incredible though. They make a genuinely huge difference both in and out of combat.
>constantly forced to thread and re-thread the same environments
But you do it with new abilities and with different goals. And with how fun they made the world to traverse, it's very fun.
>>no reward for beating 90% of the bosses and gauntlets, not even a shell shard refund
Bro. Just because the bosses don't drop something personally, that doesn't mean there was no reward. If there is something to be gained or picked up, or a path unlocked, behind the boss. Then that's your boss reward.

>>a monumental shitload of insanely dull fetch quests and you NEED to do them to enter act 3, you also need to engage with the courier system if you want to upgrade your nail and it's a complete ass as well
Did you use a guide or something? I just encountered the Silk & Soul quest naturally without even aiming for it. Without even having any idea of it or act 3 even existing.
And the courier quests are fucking awesome and I did all of them because they're cool. I wish there were even harder courier quests. I hope the DLC adds some where some enemy chases you throughout the entire job or something. The courier stuff really asks you to use Hornet's great movement in very interesting ways, and it asks you to analyze the game maps and come up with what you imagine are optimal paths. It's unironically a premium metroidvania task.
>>
>>722823043
Oh no you don't, saging faggot
>>
>>722823043
>You and I both know this is far from the truth.
No, this is literally how the game is structured. I cannot describe how many times i was expecting to get rewarded for reaching a particular ledge or nook only to discover 10 shell shards hanging above a spiky pit or a frayed bead as a collectible instead of a charm. TC gated a shitload of charms behind vendors for some absolutely inane reason.
>Memory Lockets remain huge all the way until the end game.
You need a grand total of 6 to get both vesticrests, you can gather more of them in chapter 1.
>Spool upgrades are incredible though
Only once you gain enough to pull two consecutive heals, which can be done at the end of chapter 2. Outside combat, they are sabotaged by the fact half your utility powers use silk, a simple platforming session involving clawline will rapidly drain your silk beyond bare minimum.
>But you do it with new abilities and with different goals
In 90% of cases, you literally re-thread the same environments to reach a particular new pit you can climb now. Otherwise you're trudging through the same boring environments you've already explored before, way more than in any other metroidvania. The process becomes worse with locations far away from beaten paths, like the pathetically easy and boring wormsway.
Moreover, the traversal between settlements never changes whatsoever. You're locked into the loop of alternating between ventrica and bell stations again and again and again.
>Just because the bosses don't drop something personally, that doesn't mean there was no reward.
Literally any metroidvania worth its shit including HK has properly rewarded you for beating bosses with currency and charms. SS failed to do even a bare minimum.
>I just encountered the Silk & Soul quest naturally
What does it has to do with my point about sidequests being boring, mongoloid?
>>
>>722823816
>You need a grand total of 6 to get both vesticrests, you can gather more of them in chapter 1.
Why did you just ignore the sylph song? Or the upgraded hunter crest?
>>
>>722824161
Because both of them are unnecessary garbage. Hunter is always going to be overshadowed by wanderer, just like SS will always live in the shadow of HK. Restoring your silk between benches means basically nothing if you need clawline for traversal afterward, and with Weavelight you always have enough to cast a spell. All meaningful upgrades from memory slots end at 6.

based if trve
>>
>>722816193
I can see the similarities in the climb to the surface, but that's the only genuinely challenging platforming segment, and it's more due to the lack of checkpoints than anything else.
>>
I wonder If these hollow knight "fans" have ever done the harder hk side contents at all. It's getting jarring
>>
>>722824860
I've 100% silksong and I only got to 109% in HK... it's not THAT much harder overall, but if you compare the base HK game up to let's say Sovl Master then yeah SS might be harder.
>>
>>722812629
I want more. SS is not fully out yet until all the DLC is out. thats how I feel
>>
>>722818459
You can also stop being a weak faggot and keep enjoying Hollow Knight lol.
>>
>play hollow knight
>some highs with really REALLY low lows
>most of the lows come down to annoying as fuck by design environments, backtracking, egregious wasting of your time, immense difficulty spikes in bosses etc
>overall, its ok, finished it out of spite if nothing, didnt bother with all pantheons though
>sequel comes out
>allright, lets try it, /v/tards praise it
>literally doubled down on every frustrating aspect of first hk and made a game around it

I don't know how people here can seriously say "yeah man I do enjoy bashing my head against the same boss 100 times + the retarded poison spike blindspot induced areas for said hundred times runbacks". I mean, you can't hide behind the git gud meme forever, I just can't run on frustration and spite as the only motivation to beat the game.

Dark Sovls flashbacks... home
>>
>>722826795
A good way to describe silksong is as a game that didn't improve on the good points of its predecessor all that much, but made the bad parts infinitely worse.
>>
>>722813060
>some tranny "content creator" said thing so now thing is my opinion
I unironically hope you die.
>>
>>722823043

Fantastic, not everyone is a braindead cocksucker like you. Choke on dick and die
>>
>>722826884
thats the point. DaS was 15 years ago and the somewhat refreshing feeling long been overused, most of soulslop thinned out the said annoyances. And now, its like all of that came back, in quriky 2d, with even more annoying shit.
>>722827492
yeah, thats very precise. Like I said, there were some cool hk moments, but alot of "thank fuck I don't have to do this shit again without absolute unavoidable necessity". I feel like silksong is the latter on steroids.

>can't trigger act 3
got an ending so i tried checking for what things i missed and found out theres an act 3. google says i need the priest to say something but there's nothing. current thing im doing is getting the fleas i missed.
i check every settlement for quests every new location fuond btw, fucking team cherry making highly missable events.
>>
>>722823816
Should I just play HK instead of SS? What are some Metroidvanias to play if I like Metroid 1 and 3? I tried and didn't like Ori 1, Blasphemous 1.
>>
>>722828769
have you purchased every map from shakra? she gives you a quest afterwards that's mandatory to complete, that's where I got stuck.
>>
>>722828874
Yes, play HK first. Only check SS if you're ready for a more tedious and watered down version of HK with a nerfed player moveset but more mobility options.
Try Lost Crowns, this is probably the most "modern" metroidvania on the market. Insanely smooth platforming (devs were behind Rayman games), cool as fuck combat and traversal options, and a ton of soul put into the bosses. If you dislike how MC looks, they give you a skin to turn him into old Prince from the PoP trilogy.
>>
>>722828957
she's not selling anything and the rider zanzibart is still watching the shrine. i probably wasted more than a 3rd of my playtime looking at every nook and cranny for hidden areas. god damn it. i might have to spoil myself if this goes on.
>>
>>722829237
sure you haven't missed a new area that you just haven't purchased a map from yet? I just bit the bullet at this point and looked up a walkthrough because they don't even give you an ingame hint on how you're supposed to advance to act 3.

Why are the subhuman nintardogs like this?
>>
>>722830706
bro i checked. they're all walls. fuck this game. even the fleas look like they're near but actually you need to break a wall from far away. i can't find shit. how can i reach that area
>>
>>722830881
You can either reach it from a sorta hidden path in the Whispering Vaults or in the middle of that tall room on the rightmost side of Sinner's Road
>>
>>722830209
did you fully explore the vaults anon
>>
>>722830881
I genuinely do not understand how you missed Bilewater
>>
>>722831056
yeah i got to bilewater. i really doubt this will activate act 3 though. anyway thanks
>>
>>722831669
The wish that kickstarts act 3 requires you to fulfill a certain amount of wishes before it becomes available and Shakra gives you one after you buy every map from her
>>
>>722832373
wait this anon already told you the same thing >>722828957
>>
>>722831669
>i really doubt this will activate act 3 though
There are two things you need to do in that area to activate act 3.
>>
>>722831669
Have fun in Bilewater anon.
>>
>>722831669
Do yourself a favour: the moment you find Shakra and buy her map, immediately go back to Bellhart because that should activate her quest, which is also in Bilewater and requires you to first buy all her maps.
>>
Is there anything more to do in act 3 or is it rwally just a linear sequence of tasks? What a fucking slop game. Nameless town platforming is shit next to white palace too. Was the game rushed?
>>
>722834550
(You)
>>
>>722834550
>a huge post-game no one fucking asked for
>was the game rushed?
>>
>>722834550
There's a lot of optional content, but most of it you need to look for yourself because there's only two or three wishboard quests.
>>
>>722834837
There are barely any NPCs and the questlines are underdeveloped, hence the world feels shallow. The story is also retarded nonsense and kinda femshit. Hollowtards don't want to see the truth
>>
>>722828874
HK is the easier choice, yeah.
>>
>>722828874
How come you didn't like Ori? I thought it was pretty good.
Yeah, I'd say go for HK first, then SS if you like HK. If you don't like HK, don't even bother with SS.
>>
>>722826795
Bilewater genuinely filtered me, a whole zone specifically designed to be annoying after all of the irritations leading up to it just felt insulting.
