880 and 990 are openbacks
so if you're in a quiet environment and don't care that your neighbours know what porn you watch you might want to pick em instead.

Probably the Maxwells. I plan to get their rebranded LCD-X's one day with the mic attached because I don't care for wireless.

I became a planar convert a long time ago back when I actually bought expensive 'audiophile' grade headphones, probably close to 7 years ago. I hate that word by the way, mainly because it's strangely close to the negative connotation the word is usually associated with.

Yeah they're cheaper. Maxwells are way cheaper. But they're still in the pricey category for average gamers. It's not anywhere near close LCD-GX level.

I'm still using a pair of cheap Logitech speakers my parents bought me with my first pc in 2001
>>
>>722824836
I don't use their shitty software either though. But i like the headsets, especially with replaceable headband.
>>
>>722824524
Well I'll fill you in that Audeze are likely the only ones who actually make good headphones in this space in regards to anything to do with gaming. The maxwells are the only ones that i know sound a step above the rest. Check out a YouTube channel @ZReviews type into search Audeze Maxwell. He has like a 32 minute review on it. Should tell you everything you need to know
>>
>>722822686
"Gaming headsets" are merely cheap headphones with a microphone attached while charging you extra for Gaming written on it.
>>
I got the DT990, but I don't think it justifies it's price in terms of sound quality, maybe if you're an audio snob it does
it sure fucking squeezed my head on the first month or so, had to hang it on the table corner so it would get more loose, like breaking in a brand new pair of shoes
anyways, get something cheaper
>>
>>722823736
It's not that complicated. Unless you're listening to some bass heavy rap beat the drivers aren't going to crack.
If someone else is in my room I just take my headphones off and turn my volume up.

this guy looks rather dysgenic

>what is the best gaming headset?
depends what you want. for wired, i honestly wouldn't bother when you can get proper wired headphones and a separate mic system. headset microphones are so shit on average that i never use them. but which headphones are good? that again depends on what you want.

contrary to popular belief i don't actually think studio headphones are just "better". it's more like the audiophiles have circled their wagons around them, and now they think the only way to listen to anything is with these flat, harsh sounding open back headphones that allow them to pick out the sound of the drummer coughing during recording. audiophiles are yet another modern day hobby/cult amalgamation where they just parrot what every other member says as a way to farm validation, just like most male hobbies dominated by socially starved individuals lacking real purpose. but i digress. basically there's no real good way to pick out headphones/headset you like without buying a bunch of them, listening to them side by side, maybe messing with the equalizer graph and then sticking with the one that fits your niche the best.

really the main reason to get headsets now is if you want to go wireless. the headphone market still only wants to make bluetooth headphones, which cause massive audio lag for PC gaming usage. so you have to get a wireless headset with a wifi dongle. for that use case you should expect to spend at least like 250 to get something halfway decent. audeze maxwells get recommended a lot but they're like 400 and apparently fall apart like paper mache. for me personally, i recently bought astro a50s and i really like them, even more so than any of the studio headphones i've tried, because again, studio headphones are more for autists who want to jerk off over the science of sound than people who want to a "fun" audio setup

>>
>>722825363
All I can say is that I agreed with some of his reviews in the past which leads to purchases in which he accurately described their sound profiles. So I considered him reliable for that. Some people dislike him, but there's at least 3 headphones I have in which I all I took a chance on because of his reviews and it turned out okay. When it comes to build quality, that's something in which it's hard to predict how something will break. I personally think the build quality on the maxwells looks 'meh'. But what gaming headset has good quality? they all look like cheap crap, that looks like slightly less cheap crap. The only that doesn't look like cheap crap to me was those rebounded LCD-X's. Doesn't mean they're not easy to break though.

i use the soundcore q30 ever since i got em for 30-50 bucks. Noise cancelling works extremely well, they pretty comfortable, durable and look nice. Only issue was getting used to noise cancelling. Took a few days, but since then its a necessary thing for gaming for me.

>>722822817
no noise cancelling makes these utter trash, also the cable length is an abomination. For 200 bucks you would expect better. I tried em and had em refunded on amazon in a day.

Its just as it says, it basically cancels out noises in ur environment. My case fans are rather noisy so i got the soundcore q30 and it really does its job. Cant hear em at all. Only downside is it makes you a bit queasy if u never used it before for a few days and it cant completely cancel super loud noises as well.

>>722827330
That does jackshit and even enhances the environmental noise thanks to the long shitty cable. Not everyone blasted their eardrums out in their teens and is stuck with shit hearing.

Hmm I am intrigued. Though they look like they'll warm your ears up good and proper.
How comfortable are they long-term?
I've been using in-ears for years, but have a small build-up of tinnitus developing and would prefer to minimize the damage.
