This pretty much confirms the next half life is going to be a VR title right?
>>
What was it called again? Steam Frame?
>>
>>722827350
They've stated that they weren't going to make the next half-life game VR exclusive after Alyx had a limited reach. The gimmick with the deckard/frame is being able to play desktop games in 3D.
>>
>>722827081
Unless they do something truly revolutionary it's going to flop super hard. The original Index released pretty much at the peak of VR hype. Now absolutely nobody gives a single shit about VR.
>>
>>722827350
I think it'll have both options, with both not feeling tacked on. Probably a bit less gimmicky puzzles like Alyx, since at its core its just a shooter and it can work in both. HL2 VR shows that.

The only issue I'd see is trying to make VR mass appeal but having a driving sections, cause even that section messes me up in HL2 VR. They also had that dogshit ladder mechanic where you let go and auto-teleport off the ladder.

IMAGINE if Valve did anything other than spending millions on VR and mobas
>>
>>722827783
It's not that people don't give a shit but mostly they completely forgot about it.
As for being truly revolutionary, it doesn't have to be. Knowing valve it will be another iteration of the quest headsets, and it will be very polished and will bring the medium to the attention of the PC core userbase which has completely forgot about VR since they're all busy playing unreal engine sloppa.
Fresh reminders in people's mind that valve is putting out a new product is enough to get 5 million new VR user, new people making games and fresh ideas to the medium. I mean hopefully they don't sell it for $1200 like the leak are saying because otherwise it's just gonna be forgotten as fast as the Index.

LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOOOO

All those Ukrainian drone operators need new VR headsets

Back in the late 2010s Valve said they're developing 3 VR games, one of them was Half-Life Alyx. Other than HLX and Deadlock, there are two games they haven't unveiled yet. Maybe they got canceled as per usual with Valve, but who knows? Aperture Desk Job managed to slip through the cracks without it being leaked so there's always a chance that they did have another game to develop in secret.
>>
>>722829805
that was when alyx was going to be smaller in scope
they've said in interviews that the other 2 vr teams were folded into alyx
>>
>>722829805
Technically SteamHome exists, but it's mostly abandoned.
>>
>>722827350
Probably, valve seems to be all in on VR.
>>
>>722827081
I think Valve needs to make a proper multiplayer game for VR. A single player game isn't enough of a killer app for the platform I'm afraid. They need a sustained multiplayer ecosystem that retains players for a long time.
>>
>>722830109
Everything VR needs to be multiplayer in some aspect (a social lounge area at minimum) to be successful. Even if just for an additional revenue stream (for skins is shit)
>>
>>722830109
I want to play CS2VR but Gabe won't let me
It would probably run at 120fps @ 8k resolution on a gtx 3060 as well with how good the engine is
>>
>>722830109
I'm hoping the new "let it die" let's us play vr modded but it will probably have anticheat
>>
>>722830109
>I think Valve needs to make a proper multiplayer game for VR.
Valve really dropped the ball, imagine if they had turned their steam vr home environment into a proper vr chat like game.
Start with some minor gmod like features, where you can use any asset from source games you own.

>>722830294
I think the problem is the opposite, every vr game nowadays is trying multiplayer when the player base is so small, so they get some money at launch but it dries up later when everyone realizes the mp is dead, sp games have a way longer tail and can keep generating profit as new people get into vr.
>>
>>722830501
>Start with some minor gmod like features, where you can use any asset from source games you own.
Maybe S&Box can fill that gap. I dunno if it's VR compatible though.
>>
>>722830929
>I dunno if it's VR compatible though.
Valve already did the work for Garry, it just depends on if he has the VR codebase still in the engine today or not.
>>
>>722830109
Agreed. You need something to keep the dust off.
>>
>>722830929
That ship sailed already, vrchat already has the furry and gooner market cornered.
They should have done that back in 2017-2019
Imagine, the steam market used to sell skins and props for avatars
Custom games modes that require owning the original games where assets are pulled from, so valve can sell the orange box to zoomers
Each new valve game, vr or not, would have been an update to this 'valve chat' experience.

But no, the fucks at valve got dizzy 5 mins in and scrapped anything but the more bare bones vr experience for alyx.
>>
>>722827715
I wonder how it'll work. I'd reckon HLX or HL3 or whatever it's gonna be called will be the killer app for their next VR, just like HLA was for Index, but this time it has to be playable for flatscreen as well. They're gonna have to essentially develop two games with two wildly different design philosophies in one package.
>>
VR had its chance for mass adoption during the pandemic and still couldn’t break into the mainstream. The format is still too inconvenient for what it has to offer.
>>
>>722831337
Valve in 2010s ran around like headless chickens. They missed out on so many golden opportunities, it's a bit sad to see.
>>
>>722831654
The process of setting up a VR room alone filters most normies
The wires and hitting the walls filters the rest
>>
>>722830109
Half Life 3: VR hero shooter
>>
>>722827081
So is the new one going to be a standalone or PCVR only?
I feel like it's been pretty clearly shown PCVR only won't sell but maybe that would be different for valve since they're the PC gaming guys
>>
>>722831654
The issue is its just not worth it. You have vrchat, alyx, and what else? It'd be like if 3D games came around and you just had super mario 64 and a bunch of shovelware garbage.
>>
I’d rather the finished version of Artifact Foundry enter mass production.

Valve screwed over the Artifact fanbase by cancelling the Artifact 2.0 beta without even allowing users to invite friends like they said they would in January 2021 and does not deserve your financial support for these gross consumer-unfriendly practices.
>>
So when are they actually gonna announce it if it's still supposed to release this year? Are they gonna pull a japanese Saturn launch on us?
>>
>>722832193
Supposedly it'll be out during the holiday season between Black Friday and Christmas.
>>
>>722832193
I mean the only game announcy type thing coming up is TGA so maybe then, but they skipped any formal event with the launch of CS:2 so who knows.

> The gimmick with the deckard/frame is being able to play desktop games in 3D.
Who wants this? Flat screen of non-VR game in VR
>>
>>722832380
Me, I want this.
I have FOR YEARS thought about how fucking cool it would be to hang out in SteamVR Home in the Artisan Home World and play vidya on a bigass virtual screen.
>>
>>722827715
Full body physical force feedback
The system will be driven by 8 mechanical arms (4 sweep, 4 thrust), installed around a 3mx3m omnidirectional treadmill frame.
When you get hit, the arms swing/push in that direction relative to your in-game character.
>>
>>722832509
You're a slop-eating retard.
>>
>>722832509
I dunno. Seems like a gimmick to stare at a virtual screen through another screen glued to your face. Unless your room is so trashy you need to replace it with a virtual one. You lose comfort of small things like snacking or sipping drinks while playing vidya
>>
>>722832380
If its what I think it is then I want it. A 3ds style window for every game would be amazing. just playing flat screen games with high quality 3d is a straight upgrade on the level of shifting from standard def to HD.
>>
>>722832720
Oh please, by all means, tell me ALL about how every flat screen game was bad and I need to pay $60 for ANOTHER physics toy box or some shit ripping off alyx, instead of being able to use my HMD as a fucking D.
>>
>>722831640
>They're gonna have to essentially develop two games with two wildly different design philosophies
Not really
HL2 works really well in VR and they didn't even imagine it being played like that.
>>
>>722832509
>I have FOR YEARS thought about how fucking cool it would be to hang out in SteamVR Home in the Artisan Home World and play vidya on a bigass virtual screen.

But you can already do that with Bigscreen and the like.
If this was some sort of universal UEVR/VorpX shit it'd be a way bigger gamechanger.
>>
>>722832876
I mean for me it's fairly obvious what the benefits are of being able to set up roughly infinite virtual displays of any arbitrary size, and me personally I don't really get how people can't see why this is good.
Or even just being able to have a big virtual theater for playing vidya.
>>
>>722833225
>Bigscreen
>Windows only middleware
No
>>
I'll get it if it's a big jump over the quest 3 in resolution and it's wireless.
>>
>>722833736
It'll have better comfort, speakers and battery life but it'll be exactly a Q3 but twice the price with a valve logo.
