The only time this becomes actually tense is in SH3 when the devs paste big ass enemies in front of doors in tiny hallways, and even then all ur doing is:

I played Silent Hill 1 on my PS3 in 2010. Getting stabbed in an alleyway by knife carrying children was and is still scary. Just brutally mugged and you feel the helplessness in gameplay. They could have killed you in a cutscene or right away, but you can push the children away and try to run back from where you came. Except now the exit is blocked off. Then you die for real and wake up in the cafe with the officer who arms you. After the cop girl leaves a fucking pterodactyl assaults you just for picking up med pack. Again just 10 minutes into the game.

I really like Silent Hill 1 and Silent Hill 3. The Polish developers are dogshit and I will not be playing the remake. I already saw they re-envision Silent Hill 2, the original was bad and so was SH2 Remake.

I can tell you right off the bat (heh OP), that they won't keep the static camera angle which robs the game of its atmosphere. After robbing SH1 of it's camera angles they'll make the combat into another dogshit Souls combat game with teleportation i-frames like Silent Hill F by the Taiwanese devs. Lack of quality control is why I don't have any faith in the remake. Oh and the school children zombies would be removed from the game, 100% in the remake.

I don't know why it's controversial to say that the dynamic camera angles are non-negotiable to Silent Hill's identity. Even Silent Hill 4 kept them despite taking away the tank controls.

because silent hill is mostly played with a centered behind the back camera with no cinematic intent. there's a few spots where the game utilizes more cinematic angles but those tend to either be a single closed off puzzle room or are few and far between. the alleyway section in the beginning of the game isn't representative of how most of it plays. silent hill has never been the same as resident evil in this regard.

I think SH1 is a key game to demonstrate that console specs mean jackshit compared to actual vision and deep understanding of the medium. It was every bit as good on the ps1 as the sequels were on the ps2 with an ounce of the power needed to portray things, and on top of that it's one of the scariest, most atmospherically dense games ever, if not the actual king.

So, no. I don't welcome bloober's crap with much celebration. I think it will bury the original even more than it is right now, and its great qualities, which are enhanced now by the aging style of the game, will be completely dilluted.

Now watch people complain that it's not as good as SH2 remake because the plot wasn't some kind of convoluted psychological deal while the rest remains the same for the most part.

I go back and forth with 1 and 3 because in spite of how dated the graphics are in SH1, it does present a very horroric atmosphere. Silent Hill 1 is what inspired the Silent Hillm 2006 film cinematography. The ambience is a tie because I love that snow/ash weather in SH1 for building up atmosphere, but in SH3 it also nails the dread of being stalked in the city/urban areas, especially in the metro. I understand the story of SH1 but only because I had to read a GameFAQs file about it (seriously everyone should), it lays down what's happening between all factions. Alessa's mother is playing Harry like a simp to get to her daughter to kick off her cult schizo paradise with some ancient HP Lovecraft abomination God. SH3 has a very straight forward revenge plot to follow and it humanizes Heather a lot.

Also for those who care, Douglas said no one will miss him when he dies. His English voice actor died before SH3 was released. :(

SH3 has the worst story and feel because you don't get to explore the town. But it's the scariest because it's all just claustrophobic environments over and over again. Too linear for my taste.

Second level, right after the mall boss fight you transition into the normal mall briefly then you go into the subway. It's on a train surrounded by the fat belly faggots. Those guys aren't scary. Triggering the hand pushing you into the traintracks is scarier so that can kill you if you panic. After the subway you go into the sewers were you pick up the pipe, in NG+ you can get a golden pipe from a faery, and you get the katana in an office building not much after. Don't leave the subway without the shotgun.

I mean, a fucking boiler exploding. the most obvious metaphor for someone losing it after holding anger for too long.
The newspaper article was an obvious coverup, but that doesn't mean the boiler didn't actually blow up. What's important is THE REASON the boiler exploded, that's what they're hiding.

I don't know about innovative it seems everything good that can be done in the horror genre has been done. The only modern horror game I came I can say that comes close in the evil within games. They have their moments that had spooked and moments that made me go how did they do that seamlessly

no it's not the same it's tank controls and overall jankier. Harry loves targeting thin air and shooting at it even when there are 5 enemies in front of you.

Interesting fact: the first real enemy encounter where the pterodactyl flies out of the fog, smashes the window and flies into the building to attack Harry is somewhat reminiscent of a scene from Stephen King's The Mist, which was almost certainly an influence on the SH devs. You can see the same scene in the 2007 movie adaptation.
