I haven't touched this game in years and yet I dream about it constantlyLike at least once a week I'm back in this place, chopping yew trees, catching sharks and checking my farming patches
OSRS is like 4chan. You never quit, you only take extended breaks.
Last two years of this game have made the early and mid game 1000% better, worth a revisit
>more than 20 year old game>mechanics and design are pre-established>started as a literal learning to code projectwhy does no anon make their own runescape clone?
>>722836457My billion dollar game idea is Runescape but botting is allowed and encouraged. Like a mega autism game. But I'm too lazy and stupid to make it. So feel free to steal.
>>722836457People have tried, the thing is as much as people like to say runescape is a singleplayer MMO where you ignore everyone else, nobody actually wants to play an empty MMO
>>722836692seems like you could fill it with >>722836570 programmable NPCsdistinct from player bots of course otherwise its just as hollow, but imagine player owned colonies populated with hand programmed bots preforming every task to sustain the colony
Game is better than ever.>unprecedented number of players online (200k+)>Jagex did an ugly number on bots by not only buying gold sellers but now also the buyers are getting perma banne at first offense, no one is buying anymore>no lgbt event this year and new CEO says he doesn't want gay shit in the game>tons of new content for midgame players
>>722836570>My billion dollar game idea is Runescape but botting is allowed and encouraged"bots are paying customers too and don't affect your gameplay experience personally"Jagex Mod Mark.
>>722837046How does bots competing for farming spots and flooding the economy with raw GP and jacking up the prices of everything not affect you?
>>722837046>and don't affect your gameplay experience personallyis this back when they would camp all the resource nodes and mob spawns or when a once social game is now met with the vacant stares of soulless automatons?
>>722836570>Runescape but botting is allowed and encouragedso Runescape
>>722835785Everything gets too grindy late game. I quit because mining from 75 to 85 is not even remotely funElso the new late game bosses made the game too hard
>>722837036>fagex >banning gold buyers and botsThey don't so they keep the bond price high for paypigs
>>722837376They start doing it last month and if you don't believe it see for yourself in the runescape botting forums. Everyone whining that jagex is banning their customers and now no one buys. Also people bot on an alt and get their main (which never botted) banned too because Jagex is now fucking over all of the offender's accounts.
>>722837237high level ores now require playing the mining minigame clever name pending>dodging falling rocks>maintaining support beams to not get caved in>canaries for detecting deadly gas have to be purchased from high level hunters who play the high level hunting for live birds minigame clever name pending>you have to memorize the slave song to sustain a teamwork buff of like 15% mining speed
Is there a way to enjoy Runescape without all the autistic grinding? I always thought the quests and the world design of Runescape was really cool but the mindless nonstop grinding turned me off from the game.
>>722837237I don't get this logic. If you dislike mining just don't train it. You only need 85 mining for the wilderness elite diary, except you can boost from 80, and getting 80 mining is not hard at all. Just set a goal of spending 1 hour per day mining and you'd get it done in less than one month, then you never have to touch mining again.
>>722837724I have so many better games to play and things to do than mining for hours in runescape
>>722837689Depends. You are not getting far into this game without grinding, period. But you can be a casual player that just completes quests. If you can tolerate at least moderate grinding, you can do pretty much any content in the game, you'd just have to refrain from e.g. getting 99 in all skills since that's insane grinding for no benefit.
>>722837689runescape story mode would be a fun single player spinoffbut an answer to your question is literally botting, bots can do the grind while you ERP with autistic women and elderly transvestites
>>722837804Okay so just leave your character mining meteorites in the background while you play these better games?Runescape grinding is a side screen game. You need to learn how to do these grinds while watching a movie or playing something else on the side.
>>722837689No. The game was built from the ground up for the express purpose of being an autistic grind. Don't expect anything else.
>>722836457Even Gower tried to make a clone and failed
>>722836457the creator of runescape failed to create a runescape clone, brighter shores is sitting at 200 players
>>722837558>>dodging falling rocks>>maintaining support beams to not get caved in>>deadly gasYour volcanic mine bro?
>>722837820what about a soulslike within the runescape universe?
>>722837957he wasnt making a clone but a successor im talking about straight up ripping the java code from runescapes corpse and pasting it in a new arrangement to make your own frankensteinscape
This seemed like a fun idea.
>>722838069arent soulslikes notoriously light on the story?runescape literally had a chatbox with floating heads to exposit things to you
Is Sailing out yet? Wasn't this shit supposed to come out last year?
>>722838174there is a lot of potential for a soulslike in runescape. many quests are just a series of bosses too and runescape is full of good souls bosses
>>722838151>making barricades to block in bots>joining caravans to move your stuff from one bank to another>teaming up with anon to kill the overleveld guardsit was good in practice too but it never took off
I dropped it after Varlamore first released. Somehow that was the straw that broke the camel's back for me.
>>722838221i mean sure gielenor is rich enough to support a soulslike but it wouldn't really exhibit the story of runescape particularly well
>>722837689The whole point of Runescape is to show everyone what a mindless retard you are to get all your stats to 99It's an autism contest
>>722838301How the fuck is an optional area a game breaker for anyone
>>722838371I was already out of stuff to do for the most part. Varlamore was a massive fucking disappointment and I felt absolutely no motivation to continue to do the content. It felt completely soulless, like someone just taped on a quick rush job for the sake of adding stuff to the map.
>>722835785I love this game but its probably the most detrimental game you can play.Pure fucking waste of time and alot of it. Everytime I play it I think about "well I could have used those 4 hours on a game I never played or one of my hobbies, maybe learning a skill or cleaning the house"
How much easier is it to get 99s in OSRS compared to 2007? Because it appears far easier, considering all the maxed accounts people have. Not sure if it's the new generous XP content, or because adults have all the time to play, or if it's because no one knew how to optimally grind back then.
>>722838180small indie company, please understand
>>722836457No one actually wants a new MMO where you're mostly just waiting for numbers to go up. Most people don't want new MMOs at all. RuneScape was in the right place at the right time and was able to fill the niche of a game that had the core elements of WoW, while being significantly easier to pick up, ran on poor hardware and a slow connection, and it was also still worth playing even if you weren't paying for it. No one needs those things anymore, not to the same degree, on top of MMOs being mostly out of fashion in favor of other multiplayer formats.
>>722838453>could have used those 4 hours on a game I never played or one of my hobbies, maybe learning a skill or cleaning the house"new games are generally not greatrunescape is a hobbyyou can learn things on monitor #2 while grindingcleaning the house shouldnt take you 4 hours
These niggers banned my 18 year old account for using graphical changes on runelite. They said I was macroing (lol, lmao).
>>722838634>RuneScape was in the right place at the right timesocial media killed the social element of MMOs yes, but people still want a comfy grind-a-thon
>>722838301> being this much of a baby
>got fire cape>got quest cape>only thing to look forward to is a series of 1000kc boss grinds
>>722838605agility is still extremely painful but it did get two massive money make methods in the form of wildy agi course and a agility minigame in morytania in darkmeyer, runecrafting to 77 got improved with guardians of the rift minigame and post 77 comfy grinding in zeahmining got a slow as fuck but massively afk method in the form of mining meteors
>>722838745they unban accounts if you appeal after a few years
>>722838634I always wonder if Runescape could have ever been popular in Asia back then too. Afaik the game still doesn't support unicode.
>>722838605It's not actually easier on paper. 1-90 is still the same amount of XP as 90-99. People just have third party clients that optimize everything for them, and now you can just have it running on your phone in the background constantly. It's not 12 year olds getting in a couple hours a day after their homework anymore.
>>722838605>Req assistHuh?
>>722839043>internet cafes were a big thing in china because people didnt have computers at home>sitting next to your runegame buddies irl enhances the experience>runescape runs on modern phones>china has massive phone addiction problemstencent could have had so much money if they bought early
>>722838605Every single skill has some new mechanic added that either makes it completely AFK or like 5x faster than it was in actual RS2.
What are your thoughts about moving PVP everywhere to the Wilderness in the early days?I have to admit I really enjoy the atmosphere of the wilderness even if I don't do PvP. I wonder if any games do it better.
>>722838935Sir, your quiver and infernal cape?
You niggers call it old school runescape but how many of you were around for the OLD SCHOOL runescape? I’m talking getting the world drop scythe on Halloween or playing the RS2 beta?
>>722838968I tried appealing after 1 year and was told by multiple moderators that any future appeal attempt would be completely ignored. They never once presented any evidence. Their customer support is honestly shit and an account of that age should have had better communication.
>physically mailing in $5 and entering the members gates for the first time It was so peak, as the kids say
i miss chronicle
>>722837689Yes. I enjoyed RuneScape when I was like 10-14 years old and never went full autismo
>>722840003I used to log in from time to time and carry around my scythe just to dab on n00bz. I haven’t done that since 2008 would that even impress anybody anymore? I don’t even know if I could recover my account
>>722838605It's easier in that people now are less retarded in general and do shit like 2 tick fishing as an outlier. Some skills were buffed, but most are about the same.
>>722840003I played in 2001 once. I had no idea what to do unfortunately until I played in 2004.It was interesting to learn about the community in Classic. Like one single player with 99 smithing that had a monopoly on rune equipment crafting.
>>722836457Ridiculous breadth for an MMO but without nearly as much bloat and deprecated content as games half its age.If you just want an idle game, you can make money off of gathering and crafting. If you want midcore pvm, there are numerous solo & group bosses as well as scaling-difficulty raids. If you want autistic hardcore grinds, there's grandmaster combat achievements and pvp staking. It's genuinely an all-encompassing MMO. It shows its age in a lot of ways and it does still have dead content (Castle Wars, Fight Pits, the Ranging Guild), but it takes literal years to run out of shit to do even with all of that aside.
>>722838605People just know the optimal routes and autism skills now. Back in 07 it was mostly 9-14 year olds fucking around after school.
>>722838605All of the most tedious grinds have additional options, so it's a bit less daunting to get 99s in the worst skills back in 2007>smithingGiant's Forge, automated Blast Furnace worlds and enemies that drop tons of noted gold ore>agilityRooftop courses>thievingEntity swapper for left-click pickpocketing and blackjacking>runecraftingSpellbook swap + vile vigour removes one of the more troublesome aspects of ZMI running, arceuus blood/soul rc is mostly afk, and there's GotR if you just want a full braindead minigame grindAll of this in addition to the fact that stamina pots exist, and recently they even increased the run energy scaling with Agility.
>>722835785Same. I always tell myself that I'll do something productive if I allow myself to play it again, but whenever I do I just end up watching old TV shows or garbage on YouTube. I limit myself to playing Leagues.>>722836239Care to elaborate?
>>722836457Runscape wasn't just the perfect game at the perfect time, its development was blessed by god. They hired some random child molester to do customer service, then a few years later they decided to put music in their game and he just started cranking out masterpieces. Its development was whatever the opposite of a comedy of errors is.
>>722836570>runescape but now it has even worse burnoutInteresting, if retarded.
>>722837158You're not supposed to think about it, you're supposed to just accept it.
>>722837036>no lgbt event this year and new CEO says he doesn't want gay shit in the gameUntil they revert every change listed on this page, I will not return:https://oldschool.runescape.wiki/w/Diversity_%26_Inclusion_updates
>>722836010fpbp
>>722836457Runescape 2 was not very fun on launch, only with like 5 years of iteration did it really become fun.
>>722836457Runescape was simply at the right place at the right time. MMOs as a genre are dead. When was the last successful MMO? FF14s relaunch 12 years ago?
>add new content>don't treat the new content as the only thing that matters and invalidate all old content to rush people towards the new stuff>have 20 years worth of content
>>722848416there are constant updates that do their best to not break the game, while expanding the early, mid and late game with new ways to train skills and spend your time20 years ago you basically had a single path for training a skill, now you have choices for more relaxed or completely balls to the wall methods for mostly every skill there isThe progression in osrs is unmatched in any mmo, while every other piece of shit mmo only starts at max level, osrs is a fully fledged game from start to finish and only getting better with time(arguably)
>>722839043>any flavour of chink>having a decent opinion about mmo or gaming or holy fuck, even media in generallolLMAOI'd rather have vennies fighting for their real lifes in my shitty mmo than any kind of anime faggots
>>722849193>When was the last successful MMOpeople dont like to count it but gtao
>>722838605Really easy. It takes basically no effort to max nowdays.
>>722838605It's not really novel to get a 99 anymore let alone max stats. Just get them to the max that they give you a significant use then stop.
Bums me out that modern OSRS is a raidtranny game. Old one had a good balance of skilling and combat. In modern one it's 10 times more beneficial just to do combat.
>>722850184Thats also 12 years old.
>>722836010mfw they are the same
>>722835785Last time i played Runescape was back in 2003I don't really miss it
>>722853296sure RDO was a flop but theres another one coming soon
>>722838605it's way easier, there are methods to get insane xp/h in basically every skill
>>722853919New MMOs definitely still get made, but the point is that they do all flop. The interest in the genre was replaced by gachas, which make waaaay more money.
>>722855120so runescape with gacha mechanics would bring the audience back?cause everyone hate squeel of fortune
>>722855680OSRS is one of the better off MMOs at the moment. I'd say it, WoW, and FF14 are the big 3.
>>722837689You can do quests in such an order to minimise grinding but even then you still need to spend about a week training skills.Doing that and then quitting once you get the quest cape is objectively the best way to play the game.
>>722835785Why exactly are raids a thing in this game again?
>>722855859>Thats also 12 years old.>osrs and wowlmao
