Never played a Ys game before but the trailer looks good. Is it worth getting?
Yes, very much so. Ys is an amazing action series, don't expect any more RPG elements than a straight level-up system and linear weapon upgradesI usually tell people to start with Oath or Origin so you're good
>game on any other platform:|>inferior version of the same game on a nintendo platform many years later:DDD
>>722871712>>inferior versionhow so?
>>722871486I've only played Oath, but i've heard those 2 are similar enough. The gameplay is rather simple (simple does not mean easy) but it's pretty fun.
>>722871712>>722871783surely you aren't just going to shitpost and close the thread anon?
>>722871882You should play YsO fren
>>722872220I've bought it along with Oath, just haven't gotten around to it yet.
>>722872270That's fair>>722872097I couldn't possibly even imagine what he was referring to, the game looks like pic related so there's no way it doesn't run well
>>722871486Ys Origin was my first. It's a good starter. It doesn't go down the back to back boss fights route of the earlier games and doesn't have the group combat of the later games.Avoid I and II though. Fuck the bump system
YS Origin is cool and all, but the PC version will have higher resolution than the Switch version, higher frame rate, and lower input lag. Plus, it's almost always cheaper.I don't know if this is a new version they're making now, though.
>>722871486This was my first Ys and I loved it for the combat, boss design and music. Story and characters were kinda just there
>>72287256860fps and no input lag on Switch. It's also cheaper on Switch right now compared to Steam which isn't a surprise considering Steam sales fucking suck.
>>722871486Ys games are straightforward. they have simple combat (it's an action rpg game with a jump and attack button, and a few skills, and that's it basically)The main appeal is that the bosses are extremely well designed. The ost is pretty good too. Ys Origin and Felghana are the peak of the series in terms of combat/boss design. They both pretty short games, around 6 hours each. If that seems enjoyable to you then get it, if not whatever. You're not going to get a good super involved story or anything.
>>722872702>They both pretty short games, around 6 hours eachWhat a weird and pointless lieMore like 15
>>722872568I played this shit (and basically every Ys game) on Vita and it was more than capable. Switch is fine
>>722871486Yes. You only need to find out if the port isn't botched which seems to be a thing for Nintendo platforms. Hugo's game is great on its own
>>722871486It's great game like all Ys games. Only two tips: start with Yunica campaign and if you feel stuck because you don't deal enough damage, then you probably need to farm exp to get level or two (look for enemies close to doors to reset them quickly after killing). If you feel boss is impossible, then probably your level is too low. Getting extra level can turn 2 damage per hit into 10 damage per hit sometimes.
>>722873243Game level scaling to prevent grinding makes the game feels too linear>be underleveled>Grind one or two levels as needed>little to none exploration if want to kill enemies in another form>you're only locked to enemies of the zone you're in>Once you're stronger than them your exp gain is extremely reducedMy only nitpick with it.
>>722872702YsO is shorter to reach credits. But to see final boss and canon ending, you need to beat it with 3 characters, which takes ~24h.Felghana and Naphishtim are 12-14h if you never played them before. But are much faster if you know where to go. I played them a lot as kid and could beat them in less than 5h.
>>722871486Great, even. Only problem is that the whole game happens in a tower.Felghana is more varied. Both are the best Ys, tho.
>>722871486This game was cool. My first Ys. I ended up not getting the platinum because 1. it was tedious as fuck e.g., beat the entire game multiple times. But then also the hardest mode is actually bull shit.
>>722871783It only goes up to 60fps with a few deeps and tearing. You also need to beat the game multiple times to unlock the third and then fourth character. The third charcater is the true story and Steam version allows you to play it by beating once or just using a dummy save.Steam is the definitive version
>>722872701It goes on sale for two bucks every other month
>>722873787>Steam is the definitive versionSounds like the dumbed down casualised version going by your description
>>722873650>But to see final boss and canon ending, you need to beat it with 3 charactersOnly two or even no one on PC
>>722873787>It only goes up to 60fps>fpsfags now think 60fps is somehow bad after decades of complaining how consoles didn't give too much fucks about standard 60 despite they being on PC I take this new form of "number must big" cope is happening because consoles are dropping games with 60fps on the average?
>>722874001Tenddiekun I didn't say 60 was bad but why go for it if you can go for higher frames? As good as 60 might be, it IS inferior to 120 and thats what the other anon asked
>>722874094>I didn't say 60 was bad>As good as 60 might be, it IS inferior to 120So it's not bad until you imply is it bad right in the next sentence?!
It's an action adventure series. The adventure is mediocre in every regard: puzzles, exploring, world interaction, etc. The action is simple but challenging. The Ys origin era seems to be be the best. The earlier eras were simplier. The later eras from 7 onwards lack challenge and are heavily bloated with lots of pointless RPG systems. The RPG systems were always kind of pointless, hardly any choices beyond deciding whether to buy the new armor or the new sword first, or whether to grind or push. But at least with the pre-7 era they were not very intrusive or time consuming.
I'm gonna do it
>>722874168The fuck are you on about anon? Having a Ferrari is good, but a Ferrari is inferior to a jet. Am I implaying a Ferrari is bad? Jesus Christ go check with a doctor or something
I tried playing oath on nightmare and I got filtered by the lava dragon boss
>>722874168Galaxy level reading comprehension failure
>>722874426>Having a Ferrari is good, but a Ferrari is inferior to a jet. Am I implaying a Ferrari is bad?Clearly since you're being retarded enough comparing a car to a plane making clear you want a fucking jet. Might as well use a food analogy at this point
>>722871486Yes, Ys Origin is generally considered worth getting, especially for fans of action RPGs or the Ys series, due to its fun and challenging combat, excellent boss fights, and high replay value from playing as different characters. However, players should be aware that it is set entirely in one tower and can feel repetitive due to this, while the story is fairly basic. It is also a great entry point for newcomers to the series. Reasons to get Ys OriginFun and strategic combat: The action-RPG combat is fast-paced and enjoyable, with a good variety of enemies and bosses that require strategy to defeat.High replay value: The game is designed for replayability, with three different playable characters who offer unique gameplay experiences, and additional modes like Time Attack and Arena.Excellent boss fights: The game is praised for its challenging and satisfying boss battles.Great entry point: As the first game chronologically in the Ys series, it requires no prior knowledge of the franchise, making it an ideal starting point for newcomers.Compelling soundtrack: The game's soundtrack is frequently highlighted as a strong point. Potential drawbacksRepetitive setting: The entire game takes place within a single tower, which can lead to a feeling of repetitiveness for some players.Basic story: While the story is enjoyable, some reviews describe it as fairly basic.Dated graphics: While performance is strong, some visuals, particularly in cutscenes, can look a bit dated.
>>722874729I... A... You know what, I give up.
>Decided to play Ys Origin three days ago>Suddenly this thread appearedAnyway, I finished Yunica campaign and almost done with Hugo, he feels like easy mode, just shreds everything.
>>722874815>You know what, I give up.Yeah, you should've when you had 60fps delivered.
>hmm nobody mentioned nintendo>I SHOULD TURN THIS INTO AN ANTI-NINTENDO CONSOLE WARsnoys are deranged
>>722875356>snoys are derangedIt's clearly a vegan, anon. Sage and move on
>>722871486yea its excellent
