>>722873231Diagonal pogo is easy and you're retarded shitter if you complain about it.There are metric fuck tons of anal beads to there are literally mobs that drop 30+ anal beads per kill in the citadel. You attack fast as fuck (unless you're a shitter using the reaper) and enemies rarely take more than 6 hits. Tons of enemies (not bosses) deal only 1 mask of damage. You're right about the ammo system. It's fucking AIDS. Just consume ammo on use and let me pick up more, or if you want strict charges, then automatically replenish them at the benches. There's no reason to force players to grind for shards (not that I've ever even come close to having to, and I've done multiple quests that require turning in 500 shards, but I could see it happeneing if you get stuck on a boss).

>>722884273Never played but it looks dreary compared to the hype it got.
This game was fucking awesome and mogged the everloving shit out of Hollow Knight. HK was the “Dark Souls metroidvania” and predictably, Silksong is the Sekiro metroidvania and is filtering the exact same number of shitters trying to hop across the gap.Silksong combat is so good holy shit. I hate the way tools are balanced and I wish the game had a Coliseum of Fools moment and a worthy successor to Path of Pain, but fuck me if Silksong isn’t just brilliant in boss fights and absolutely stuffed full of them.>too hardI’m 37 and bad at video games. My old ass did it without tool cheese. You can do it to. Embrace the joy of learning through failure. Stop expecting victory to be easy. Quit getting mad at video games.>but I just wanna win without trying so hard, I play games to relaxThere are eleventy billion other games. Silksong is not for you. Sorry about that.
This game series is just capitalizing on the other cancerous trend in modern game design where the game is just a large, empty, uninteresting open world with the only interesting thing in them being the bosses. Also scattering lots of meaningless materials and currencies to grind instead of meaningful gameplay items like upgrades or more options for traversal and combat. It's just the indie version of slop in contrast to the AAA version.
>>722873231>Beast>The fuck is thisThe strongest damage in the entire game. Git gud

>>722876594Anon you can buy shard bundles, they're cheap. This doesn't excuse the fact that the shard system exists in the first place but it does help alleviate it.
>>722882932So HK: Silksong is worse by every metric but has a better soundtrack?
>>722873231Getting taken by surprise by that shit is entirely on the fandom. People thought it will be Hollow Knight 2, however they forgot to look at the last update to Hollow Knight to see where those devs were going.Just look at this>ZERO meaningful metroidovania content>The entire expansion centers around repetition of the same shit everyone's already seen (autistic mutants as a target audience)>The main highlight is the prolonged arena fights that require significant grinding to complete and that I can't imagine anyone not either mentally ill or making money from playing doing.Godhome was where Team Cherry turned their development approach towards the land of low-functioning autism, estrogen pills and unpleasantly smelling speedrunning events. Silksong fully shares that dedication. It's a game dedicated to unhinged speedtrooners first and foremost, everything else is an afterthought, which is why it's shit as metroidovania and the story and narrative basically doesn't exist in it when coprated to the first game, instead there is some shitty shipping "lesbian" baiting for AGP audiences. tldr godhome was a mistake.
>>722873231literally every thing OP listed is wrong and retarded, there's not even a single accidental good pointmasterful bait 9/10
>>722888894The game has almost no areas where you have a non-hostile setting where the player can just walk through to get to the next. Hollow knight had resting grounds, ancient basin and howling cliffs be essentially pushover areas with perhaps a single secret difficult part (the grave secret area in resting grounds, for example). Most of the enemies are simply doing nothing or acknowledge the player’s existence only if you try to kiss their ass.Silksong? There are 0 areas you can just walk through. Pale Lake and Mount Fay may be the only places you can simply relax without enemies (once you got double jump for the latter). Every area needs heavy platforming/gauntlets/bosses and is designed around these, and while I got gud it also became a tiring loop of “oh new area, more bosses and arenas yay…”. The areas in-game feel gamified to an unholy extent, like they’re designed for hornet and nobody else to go through. You don’t go into a forest expecting a bear, you go expecting squirrels n shit. Hollow knight nailed that, Silksong simply does not as it throws the entirety of African megafauna at you instead.
>>722885402It doesn't, you just have above average pattern recognition.
>>722874776I was feeling the same way as you at the same point as you. IMO mid act 2 is the low point of the game. The Citadel is multiple areas but feels like one big, mostly boring and empty one. The game started to pick up for me after that though, and I started to get used to the annoyances. Maybe you will too.
>>722873231i replayed hollow knight for the first time in a while and i think the difficulty spike in silk song is overstated compared to hollow knight>platformingHK doesn't hit you with gauntlets nearly as often as SS, but when it does they feel less forgiving, usually involving tight thorn tunnels with a low margin of error. also the respawn points are often bullshit and you'll get set further back than the last "safe" spot, SS to my memory will always respawn you at the last safe spot you stood on. i died more to the white palace platforming section (not path of pain) than to anything in silk song>combati played 90% of SS with hunter crest, the pogoing takes a little bit of getting used to but after an hour or two really isn't that bad. doesn't help on a blind playthrough i guess but you can get wanderer crest pretty early for HK moveset so its not even that big of a deal.SS bosses are definitely harder but one thing I don't see people mention enough is how much of a game changer mid-air healing is. in HK, there are a lot of bosses where it just feels like you have pretty much no opportunity to heal outside of the stun phases while in SS i could pretty much safely heal as soon as i got enough silk becuase it's so easy to get out of the way and pop it off. this feels like i balances out the boss difficulty in that it's hard the first few times you try a boss but once you learn the moveset, the path to winning is faster >travelin SS, felt like i was never that far from a fast travel point while in HK i'd constantly be in a situation where if i wanted to get somewhere, it would be a hike to the closest fast travel point and then a hike from there to my destinationagree on the currency complaints though. HK felt like I always had enough cash on hand to buy shit and i was easily clearing out shops just from normal progression through the game. SS i had to grind semi-regularly
>>722890310opposite for me desu. mid act 2 was the peak of the game for me, felt like i was constantly unlocking new shit and discovering new areas. act 3 was disappointing imo, bosses were fine but not really having new areas to explore was a let down

But I would still say there's too much trolly/tedious shit in the game. It's not really a matter of difficulty, but since some of the tedium comes from bullshit trolls and having to redo things that are actively designed to be tedious, there's some overlap with it.
>>722873231>>It's very short rangedits medium ranged at worst, i've never once had an issue where i felt it was short.>diagonal pogo jumping is awkward as fuckthe fact that it's diagonal adds commitment to the choice to utilize it, it's not awkward.>but instead of being DMC kind of switching styles on the go it has to be done in a bench, reducing FUN and freedomit doesn't reduce FUN to not give you ALL of the tools in the game at ALL times, it introduces planning. there are situations in the game where different styles might work better for you even if you dont particularly like that crest, giving the player a potential dichotomy. there's pros and cons to using hunter vs reaper, allowing you to switch on the fly all the time would negate that. you sound so fucking entitled and retarded, it's obnoxious.>Not fun like Castlevania heart ammo, more like the scarce kind of ammowhat? if you're talking about classicvania, the ammo in silksong is infinitely less scarce given EVERY enemy drops it at ALL times. i mean, i'd probably say the same for the metroidvanias actually.>Currency is valuable and necessary to progress in the game>Make it grindy and unobtainablewhy do you think the currency is valuable you dumb fucking faggot? if it was easy to get it would lose that value >enemies dodge your attacksoh fuck i've been replying to bait this whole time, lmfao, i'm actually a little annoyed i didnt just finish reading it before i started replying. good job OP, actually a good one
I'm starting a new playthrough, but I'm using the mod that lets me pick my starting crest, because I want to use Witch crest from the beginning. >>722884796I wouldn't say it's the strongest, but beast bind + flint slate will rape most mobs you face and pours out damage
>>722893470No, it actually is the strongest. If you keep your bind up, Beast does the most damage.
Health system would have been better if player starts at 3 masks, maxes at 6, and everything does 1 damage.Still retains the same level of "difficulty" but makes it much more consistent instead of being left to wonder if you really have one more hit or not when down to 2 masks. The current system makes calculating risk vs. reward very random.
>>722894079Oh and this would also make getting your first mask upgrade much more significant early on

>>722874776If you didn't enjoy the game at all until then, you probably won't enjoy the rest of it.Atleast for me, act 2 was when I definitely accepted that this was going to be one of the greatest experience I would have with any piece of entertainment, but that may not happen with everyone.Atleast you weren't retarded like me and put 60 hours into terraria until realizing you weren't having fun lmao
>>722873231The only thing I hate about this game after doing 3 playthroughs is the rosary grinding necessary everytime if you want to get everything pre-ACT 3. It's not too tedious, but the first game had none so this pissed me off.
>>722873231I will say I feel that last point. You explore and your reward is a boss who drops nothing half the time. A few times hollow knight does it but not to that extent.
>>722873231Was it really necessary to make the puking bugs in Bluewater also dodge away from you when you get near them, causing you to plummet 100ft into a pool of maggots?
>>722873583the most smoothbrain answer which defended poor obnoxious gaming design for years. That said, silksong is somewhat tolerable, but I can't ditch the feeling that I play it and going though with it out of spite. The backtracking, tanky enemies, measly sense of personal progression, plethora gang mob rooms, poison spikey troll trap induced areas etc just make the experience annoying as fuck.
Getting to act3 on replay takes a bit of grind. It wasn't too bad, running from songclave to cogwork/high halls bench should net you 1-2k in no time. don't really understand other complaints (like flyers, no shards, tanky mob/boss, exploration) so, I'll write those off as silk issues. feel free to post your gameplays

I really should not have played the first one right before it because it leaves all the retarded decisions they made in the open.It feels as if whoever made the game was too busy huffing their own farts instead of reflecting on how to improve the original. As a result, they doubled down on most retarded decision which made the first one overrated. >Crests exist for the sole purpose of limiting player's freedom when it comes to builds.>If that wasn't bad enough, the diversity is only further ruined by mandatory charms with functions that should've been enabled by default - one of the worst parts of the first game.>Brainless Dark Souls copying with a clear lack of understanding of what made certain features good>Both games hide 1/3rd of their content behind mind-numbing fetch quests.>Silksong Went further by adding a bunch of boar asshole gathering quests. Something NOBODY ever asked for. Even worse is the fact that they are mandatory to get a proper ending.>It was hard to lose your cash in the first one, but if you did, the game turned into a grindy slog. Silksong makes it worse by implementing paywalls that will stop your progress regardless.>Pogo bouncing was one of the fun aspects of the original, and they fucked it up with retarded divekick and awful hitboxes.>"Hurrrrr, we remade Anor Londo, guise! Aren't we cool! We even made it obnoxiously long, because that's how proud of it we are!">"Durrr, people enjoyed the Arena in the first one, so we added 500 mandatory copy and paste arena segments! Enjoy!"All those decisions reek of something a suit from an AAA publishing corpo would force upon the devs. Not something a "cool" indie developer would do.And, just like with the first one, they yet again got rewarded with ridiculous amounts of undeserved attention, so expect other games to copy them.
>>722905079False. You should always fight The Captain last. Not a fair comparison to HK because the Hollow Knight is nowhere near as good of a duel as Lace.

>>722896484Holy shit this post.Silksong is definitely a step up frpm Hollow knight and went from a 7/10 bloated game with par for the course metroidvania game to an actually fun sequel with Silksong but it's nowhere near groundshaking like some people like you make it sound. This time the gamefeel is much better, less floaty and with game mechanics actually interacting with each other, the level design is much better. But it's still a metroidvania ending up with a massive but very classic structure stretching the dash-double jump - wall jump trifecta over 40+ hours when most metroidvania cover it in less than 10 hours. I had much more fun with Pharloom than Hollownest, but once you've pushed through the citadel, there's less and less to explore and the game becomes more and more about backtracking. It's a good game but damn, calling it by any superlative is absolutely retarded.

Having the boss with the largest moveset by far be the one that’s building it from pieces of moves you’ve seen multiple times before is great game design. It isn’t too much new information overload, it’s all instantly familiar. The task is just managing it all at once.Lost Lace is a fucking ace fight. Capping it off with some floating background teleporting projectile spammer that cycles the same 4 patterns and only appears 75% of the way through the fight would be an insult to the greatest duel in the series.I get that>challenge what, the sun?!Is a hype moment but The Radiance is nowhere near as good mechanically as Lost Lace. I do not particularly care for any of the boss fights across either game, certainly not enough to describe any of them as "peak". If I want good boss fights I will play a good 3D action game.Certainly doesn't help that none of the boss themes are particularly good either and just end up being white noise with no memorable melodies
>>722906037nintendo games have insane optional hardcore areas. But that's not what I am talking about.I am talking about the game having barebones outdated mechanics that are too few to carry the entire game's length and the upgrades are minor, useless, or side-grades. The game is full of Zelda-like iron boots/top spin tier stuff that sounds like it would elevate the gameplay forever but implemented in a way it's useless gimmick for an area that you will never touch after you are done with that area. Which is doubly weird design style to do for a metroidvania. Also about the game being outdated in terms of player controls, hornet is stiff, awkward and floaty for a modern platformer. Same way once again Zelda had first person turret style aiming when everyone swapped to over the shoulder aim assist twin stick style. It doesn't feel like the game from 2025, or the game from 2016, it feels like a game from 2000But that's doing a disservice to nintendo, cause even they began catching up since Botw and Odyssey

>>722906486Sinner was almost awesome but teleports far too much. The avoidance portion is great (her attacks are really cool) and the "interrupt the heal" mechanic is always a classic, but too much of the Sinner fight is hoping she appears near enough to you for you to get a hit in while dodging her attacks toward her.Lace and Phantom are the best fights. And really, Phantom is just a riff on the Lace fight, it's the same basic moveset except instead of lunging at you, she throws a projectile at you and then teleports to it after, which is just enough of a mixup to feel novel (and also because she can aim in any direction it makes the aerials harder to dodge than the Lace divekick, which can only point at downward angles). And I guess instead of spawning 3 circles at once and then attacking them all, Phantom spawns 3 ground slams one after the other, but it's still basically the same fight.
>>722906789Phantom of the organ was so good. She deserved more. If her sister can survive two defeats, why can't she survive one?
>>722882489What Hornet did before the game is none of your business.
>>722906959When we get Silksong godhome I'm really hoping for a sisters of battle where you fight Lace 2 and Phantom together, at first taking turns teleporting in and out to swap places and then at the end both in the arena together. That'd be awesome.

>>722905443Subjective opinion. Also I said "one of the". The reason that Super Metroid became as acclaimed as it is is how the game makes you revisit certain location more than once to find new secrets. Almost all Metroidvanias including nine sols and silksong do this
>>722912583I find it less tedious as I've improved at it, but there's still tedious shit there. Enemies are too tanky for how evasive they are and how much they block, the busywork quests are dumb, the grinding is bad, and there's a lot of subtle troll shit designed to make you redo things or to otherwise make runbacks annoying. It's still a great game. But it has developers who made a great game and then deliberately added annoying shit to it to satisfy their own autistic certainty that time wasting = difficulty.

>>722904483She can even climb them to attack you.
>>722913729It's a troll post that takes something that is actually true and makes it sound slightly ridiculous on purpose. In this case, the currency isn't unobtainable at all, and it's usually easy not to lose it after dying. But it is still very grindy. It's annoying that rosaries break on spikes too, and that the magnetite brooch doesn't pick up shards. It's just timewasting shit.
Shards would be fine if they didn't cap your maximum so low, or if you could make shard bundles out of them instead of spending rosaries. It's too easy to have max shards for a long time because you're not using tools much (wasting all the ones that are dropping) then lose them quickly because you had to use tools for a bit and they're actually really fucking expensive.I understand the purpose of using shards in addition to a tool limit, it's to give you the freedom to use them liberally when you need to, but to stop you from spamming them all the time. I don't think that's a big problem. But for the love of fuck, make them less annoying to grind. And let me carry more of them! And make the fucking magnetite brooch pick them up!
>>722913361Most criticisms I've seen so far were mostly based on individual skills or lack thereof. I can't take them seriously when those criticisms did not apply to me in the slightest. >60% have beaten the last judge>20% of player have beaten lost laceImpressive.
>>722913585because getting good at this particular game rewards you with a kind of fun that’s hard to find in most games
>>722914558There are a lot of games that are of equal or greater difficulty than Silksong that don't get the "it's so tedious" complaints. It's because Silksong legitimately does have a lot of tedious shit in it, and it just comes across like complaining about the difficulty because dying to something compounds the tedium. Some people find the game harder than others, sure, but difficulty isn't really the problem. In games like this, you die and you want to get better and overcome it. That's how it usually is.But the tedium is what makes you not WANT to go through that process. It's all the little shit that makes it NOT FUN and makes it feel less rewarding even when you do win.So the complaints about tedium are tied to difficulty because the two things are interrelated, but it's still a separate thing.
>>722914674>>60% have beaten the last judge>>20% of player have beaten lost lace>Impressive.I don't understand what's happening with normies. The developers are genuinely talented, but they don't have restraint. Like Hollow Knight Silksong is held back by how badly it wants to be Dark Souls. There's no one thing. It's a bunch of smaller, cumulative things. Everything's been SLIGHTLY overtuned to be fucking obnoxious. You just know a developer went through these otherwise great parts thinking:>This boss is great but it's not PREPARE TO DIE™ enough, let's give it 50% more HP and another couple of flying, dodging, blocking adds!>This bit is hazardous and rewarding, but it's not PREPARE TO DIE™ enough, let's add an offscreen boulder!>The player will be doing this runback a few times, but it's too fast and convenient, DEFINITELY not PREPARE TO DIE™ enough. Better add some obnoxious outcroppings and some spikes at the bottom of pits so they must do it SLOWLY instead of QUICKLY!>This FLOOR IS LAVA gauntlet isn't PREPARE TO DIE™ enough, how can I fix that? Oh I know, let's add a lip at the top so there's less real estate to wall-jump in, with the added bonus of making the player glance off it and fall into the lava if they try to dash back to the wall from the wrong height!>This rising lava chase isn't PREPARE TO DIE™ enough, let's put a path to the right that's a complete dead end and hope the player panics under time pressure and just gets killed!>Leeches prevent you from healing and take 9 silk to dislodge? That's not PREPARE TO DIE™ enough, let's make them DRAIN silk too!I used the words "bad faith" but I don't think genuinely spiteful. I think they believe they're doing the player a favor. We're supposed to respond to the troll shit with "Haha, you got me! Oh you! I guess I'd better git gudder, huh?" when really it's just AMAZINGLY fucking tedious. And the most frustrating thing that it's a genuinely great game that is fantastic in every other respect. They just took that great game and decided to push everything a FRACTION too far until the player just isn't having fun anymore.

I spent money on it and ended up 100%ing it and just used wanderer the whole game because it felt more akin to the HK I enjoyed. But the parts that irritated me weren’t having enemies in general, they are easy to avoid. It was the fact that every battle that you have to learn has some amount of time wasting right before it, like coral tower and the ant chick. Granted they are much less of an issue later in game when you are powered it, it’s annoying to have to spend 5 minutes redoing the same thing over and over again.I did take issue with all flying enemies being able to move away fast before I realized the harpoon attack was so good. That’s probably why there are so many shitters. They, like me, did not abuse aerial enemies with it (though I learned eventually).

Do you think there is any incentive or desire for them to make the next game (assuming they make one) in less than 8 whole years? They admitted there was significant scope screep. Could they not just hire a project manager and take on more staff? The problem is that they're mega rich and can afford to take their time and do what they want. And while this does produce good games which I will buy and enjoy, I would prefer not to wait 8 years.
>>722918158Not the argument I was getting at. Demons Souls was the product of multiple points of inspiration brought together into a single package that eventually (with Dark Souls) became popular enough to define a separate subgenre. But all those individual points of inspiration existed separately long before Demons Souls, therefore other games took inspiration from them, not the Souls games.
If NKG was in Silksong he'd just be Karmelita-tier.The only issue with his fight in HK is that you don't really know the right time to heal during it as the knight early on.
>>722918707Probably not. This seems to be a hobby for them and they're independent so there is no incentive for them to pump games out.

>>722918730NKG isn’t nearly as fun as regular grim. The responses to his moves are too rote, and you spend to much of the fight literally unable to attack him. I have a lot of criticisms for silksong but the duel bosses are the best the series has made without question. Even lace 1 is more engaging that grim or HK.
>>722918707Why? You want them to pump slop out every couple years like CoD or AC?
>>722916756>>722917204I'm glad you can self-reflect to that degree. Just remember that for some people, punishments in video games aren't painful or stressful, they're interesting.>"Haha, you got me! Oh you! I guess I'd better git gudder, huh?" when really it's just AMAZINGLY fucking tedious.I completely understand getting frustrated, but a lot of these design elements to me just add exciting nuances to the already excellent base game loop.>More HP on bossesAwesome, I actually have to react patiently and MASTER the boss, not just get lucky.>Offscreen boulder/Hidden traps of any varietyOk, this is a game about perception, care, and risk analysis. I've definitely been hit by traps, but I have yet to find one that couldn't have been foreseen and reacted to.>Longer, more hazardous runbacksIf the runback was right in front of the boss, I'd just be mashing the combat loop without engaging the jumping loop. I like the enforced variety. Perfecting a boss isn't just about their moveset now, it's the platforming gauntlet leading up to them too.>Leeches and silk taxesUnironically an excellently designed way to push a player not just to fight carefully, but to be able to defeat threats in the air without touching parts of the level that used to be safe, but aren't anymore.Everybody has to decide how much they value challenge and personal growth. It's just a hobby after all. I just wish everyone who engaged in the difficulty argument could appreciate that some mountain climbers really need steep walls to test their limits. We're not just up on some pedestal laughing at hardship. Challenge is fucking fun to overcome. There's the discussion about accessibility and how many games need to be easy enough to beat (and if you spend money on a game are you entitled to see the end), but that's another discussion.
>>722919123>You want them to pump slop out every couple years like CoD or AC?Yes
>>722917518the game's only hard and tedious if you were one of those head basher soulsfags. It's very fun If you're capable of critical thinking and problem solving
>>722918117Sort of. It's going to depend on what kind of bosses you find most difficult. NKG is extremely fair doing one attack at a time with no overlap and every attack has a reliable answer. But he's fast and doesn't let up. And in hollow knight taking two masks of damage is a bigger deal due to the differences in healing.I'd say the closest to that style of boss among the difficult ones in silksong is Karmelita. And I thought she was way easier than him. The fight doesn't get that frantic until the end and by that point you can just burn her down the rest of the way. Most of the other hard bosses in silksong are more chaotic. Tormented Trobbio is the best example. He's constantly throwing random bullshit everywhere. But, to me at least, he gives you more room for error and is just overall a less intense fight.
>>722873231its fine mods will fix it
>>722918721>multiple points of inspiration brought together into a single packageBut that's exactly what makes it clear that it was a large inspiration for Hollow Knight. It doesn't seem like they've taken a few of the same inspirations, it feels like they've lifted the package itself, or at least a large portion of it, and bolted it onto a 2D metroidvania framework. It's possible they arrived at such a similar package through the same inspirations. It does happen. I just find it quite unlikely in this case.

>>722919926The only things you can permanently miss are two optional fights in act 2 that don't even count toward the hunter's journal or any completion percentage. Everything else you can (and usually are expected to) backtrack to, even near the very end of the game.

>>722916826I agree with you that real punishment doesn't exist in a lot of games. Adding punishment is fine but>health spongey boss fights that kill you in a moment +>you need to learn the boss's moves before having a hope, can't just wing it+>you have to run back through a bunch of shit each time Is just a shitty combo. You can say people got filtered and are casuals but there are some combinations of difficulty that are just dog shit. Nobody ever made a game hard like Silksong AND then added insane run backs on top of that, not because "people can't handle it" and "cazuals" and "modern gaming" etc. They don't do that... because it's fucking garbage. Other games have had >mechanically demanding fight but you can come back fast (e.g. most modern "hard" games like Souls series)>multiple lives so you can attempt a boss like 3+ times (e.g. bullet hell shooters)>punishment exists for dying but it takes time to die (e.g. hard RPGs, FPS games with health packs)Like in Souls, Seath the Scaleless is probably the longest runback I can think of and it's a 1-2 attempt fight. This is why the formula worked and it made people feel good about themselves. They knew full well that players needed a sense of progression when they die. So when they made Sekiro with much harder fights than Souls, they put no run backs at all. And even many normies beat the game and felt hardcore because of it. Running back 3 times before you can even figure out how to avoid something, not even being able to get a real attempt in until you've died like 3 times and run back already 3 times... that's just shit.SS devs say they were inspired by Zelda 2. But Zelda 2 is a frustrating hard and mostly shitty game nobody ever beats without save states because LITERALLY the fucking runback in that game is from the beginning every time.

>>722920083There's a lot about the way the exploration and bosses are structured, the way currency actually is a profoundly bad fit for the game but they included it to justify the corpse runs, the respawning enemies specifically on rest, the mournful tone and the pacing of the game. >>722921313The ease of healing is by design, it's not breaking anything. That's why Karmelita and Lost Lace in particular are especially easy to heal against compared to easier bosses like Clover Dancers.
>>722921313I think they sort of attempted that with Groal.Small cramped arena with a low roof, gigantic boss occupies 50% of the arena so you have nowhere to go, mooks appear and jump into you or above you throughout the fight, mooks and boss both fire projectiles at you, muckmaggot water prevents healing (if you haven't found the wreath). Also a giant spikeball swings through the arena periodically.
>>722921603I don't use tools much, but when I do my shards go down incredibly fast. It's feast or famine, and I think they intended that just like they said they intended the player to spend a lot of time at full health or no health. It just needed a higher maximum limit. Being annoying to grind + tool use being very expensive + you can't hold that many before they max out just makes it a shit system. Pick two and only two.
Silksong is a lot like the Elden Ring of Hollowlikes. You can just walk away from stuff if your stuck and come back stronger
>>722921603Do what exactly? Farm them? Great design. Enemies are to tanky to kill them on the go, and enemies in arenas where you are forced to fight, don't drop them. Even better design.

>>722922492>>722922539Shards are a proxy for how well you're doing in any given area. If you're getting that stuck on a boss that you're bleeding shards, then you need to leave and go somewhere easier to find more upgrades. >>722922686By this logic Lace would be a little girl with a huge ass.
>>722921921It's not pointless if it encourages different behavior. If you really run out of shards on a single boss (I've done this), the game is trying to send you a message. It's up to you how you receive it. Be more conservative, master other aspects of the gameplay, take some time off to grind, invest in necklaces and bundles, explore somewhere else, the ball's in your court. It's easy to claim that a design is pointless. It's very hard to grow out of your own ego and think about what you can do to improve.Painful, positive change is a sign that you are playing a well-designed game.

>>722922953Nothing is flawless, but you need to actually have the functional brain matter to engage with the game mechanics as they're intended instead of bashing your head against the wall and blaming the game.My biggest problem was the magnet not working on shards. I get their intent was for players to focus on rosaries and buy shard bundles, but it devalued the benefit of exploring for shard caches when a bunch of them would just fall onto spikes. >>722922492>>722922692I'm pretty sure the idea is just to give the player a way to adjust the difficulty on a limited, per encounter basis. If a particular boss or gauntlet is giving you trouble, you can make it a lot easier by using more tools. Likewise, if there's a particular enemy or type of them you don't want to deal with while exploring, tools allow you not to. But you can't do that for everything unless you want to spend more time farming than playing.
>>722923138It might be a shit mentality. I treasure every spike trap I lay down and recalibrate my aim if I stick one in a poor position where it gets struck and breaks apart for lower damage. >>722923740Thanks for exposing you're a shitter who never played the game by bringing up a late act 2 tool as something """everyone has""" when the bosses most people complain about the most are the ones before you get it, while also saying there are fuck all upgrades when you're objectively wrong on that.
>>722923286>My biggest problem was the magnet not working on shards. I get their intent was for players to focus on rosaries and buy shard bundles, but it devalued the benefit of exploring for shard caches when a bunch of them would just fall onto spikes. That's it though.Thank you for being able to engage critically with the game.I still disagree with your assessment that running out of shards is communicating something to the player or, if it was intended that way, that it's a good system. I think using shards and limited tools is a good idea, but I think the execution just causes unnecessary busywork for the player.
>>722923293Do they use the words "unfairly hard", or is that you editorializing?
>>722921524I didn't play this game (yet) but I'm ok with the pendulum swinging. Gaming evolved past Lives and Continues and Game Over and whatnot, because those games were mostly born from arcade machines trying to farm pocket money from kids. At some point the pendulum swung too far and people needed to be told they are special and hand held with 4 different difficulty settings. When le epic souls games came along zoomers were suddenly awoken to the retardation they had been playing, thank god.Now it has gone too far in the other direction again. Imagine actually defending undodgable moves. Git gudders are the flipside version of "making it accessible and not punishing the player", they defend anything under "challenge and feeling of accomplishment". Easy is actually good but we simply went too far. Modern games tried to reach wider and wider audiences and became stupid. Super Nintendo to Playstation was peak gaming difficulty, past the arcade machine quarter farming level design but before mobile games and twitch whores. Among SRPGs Fire Emblem 4 is one of the best. It's probably easier than most SNES games too. The follow up 5 was made "for fans" and was awful trial and error garbage. Nobody ever defended 5 yet nowadays I have actually seen people defend that game, saying filtered and git gud. This is what we have come to. The git gudders are the new casuals and women.tldr easy games good but not to easy
>>722873231I'm playing it right now and having a blast because I'm not a complete shitter at vidya. Recently reached the Citadel and rung the first bell there.
>>722923732>They wouldn't feel all that special if ammo was functionally infinite.I'm repeating myself from earlier posts, but I think just letting you hold as many shards as you find would solve the problem. It's a good system in the way it makes you value your tool use, but you just go from max down to nothing too quickly, and if you're playing conservatively you end up wasting a lot of shards from enemies and the environment. Having uncapped shards would still make you value them, but you wouldn't run out as easily.
>>722922953>>722923047I'm none of these anons but it would have been more fun to find unique tools in secret areas, instead of just currency caches to go buy tools. The devs absolutely failed to put more interesting carrots in some of the harder to find corners of the map. Also, if you really can't do anything in the Mist area without unlocking a story thing I haven't gotten, I think that's a missed opportunity. Many areas (Sinner's Road, Hunter's March) feel underbaked and I would have loved just one more interesting room out of them.To your question, yeah there are absolutely flaws, but I'm not seeing them in the arguments about difficulty. Most of the complaints about bad design are just obstinate players who refuse to allow the game to teach them to adapt and overcome.
>>722923879Stop getting butthurt over obvious statements.
>>722923916How many tool builds are there?>>722923934Which is? Tacks and poison are act 1, for flies you only need harpoon. Neither is late act 2. Being a non-linear game the only thing "late" in act 2 is shakra's quest.
>>722924093>ctrl+f unfair>only 4 results, this exact comment chainYeah, that's a fair point (ironically).>ctrl+f hard>103 results.I dunno man, you tell me.
>>722924360>I'm none of these anons but it would have been more fun to find unique tools in secret areas, instead of just currency caches to go buy tools.I felt this way about Hollow Knight too. It wasn't the kind of game that needed a currency system at all. Everything you buy would be better placed in the map as something to find.(And a lot of the charms should have become permanent upgrades to your toolkit, but that's another discussion)
Can you get all mask in act 2? I just need the shard in mount fay
>>722924545>>ctrl+f hard>>103 results.A lot of those are from "shards" and a lot of them are from people saying "you think the game is hard" and "the game isn't hard"
>>722924664There's four shards (one mask) exclusive to act 3. You can get up to 9 masks in act 2.For example, there's a second mask shard in Mt. Fay that you can only get in act 3.
>>722924667Dude you're so right. No one has ever complained that Silksong is unfairly hard, or that the difficulty is poorly implemented, or that the punishments are tedious instead of instructive. I was just imagining all of it.
>>722924360You don't need anything new to solve Mist.
>>722924770Yes that's the one I'm trying to get. But I realized I can't get the one from killing void hearts in act 2. The others I got with the scuttlebrace glitch
>>722924481>How many tool builds are there? How many crests are there?
>>722924121>It's gone too far in the opposite directionNo, you're just a shitter. What the actual fuck, Silksong isn't even harder than any of the souls games it's larping as.
>Enemy hits you with weapon that's 5x your size>1 Damage>Enemy nukes the screen in in "fuck you" attack>1 Damage>Enemy takes one step forward from a standing position and touches you>2 damage>You accidentally bump into enemy while they're stunned>2 damageContact damage on bosses was more infuriating than anything. Jobber enemies having them at least makes sense from a gameplay perspective so you can't just easily run past everything. Less so when you're literally locked in a room with your enemy.
>>722907536>stagger>Avoid collision damagelmao
>>722924360>>722924556The reason for currency in both games is a) to encourage players to backtrack to areas with vendors to deal with anything new that popped up or anything new they can access with new abilities, and b) to force the player to actually think about what they want to get to further their playstyle. It's nothing new to limit the resources and options the player has instead of letting them get everything immediately.>>722925165Three of the four act 3 shards are rewards for wishes. Dunno if you can scuttlebrace to the sprintmaster but even if you can there's still two that are rewards for the void hearts and an act 3 boss that only appears when you accept the wish.
>>722924989>or that the difficulty is poorly implemented, or that the punishments are tedious instead of instructiveI see a lot more of that than "unfairly hard".
You people are driving me insane.SILKSONG IS NOT THAT FUCKING HARD.

There's a lot of stuff that's designed to just slightly bump into you. From the flying enemies that require you to chase them down and then they spazz into you, to the stupid Unraveller boss that has that dishonest little bounce when he hits the wall, so his massive fucking butt taps you and does 2 damage.

>>722925038Oh shit, I'm going back in! Don't tell me anything about how to do it.>>722925323To his point, tool variety could be a valid complaint. I haven't really run numbers or looked up the most optimal build, but I am finding it hard to swap off triple pin + spike trap. That said, when I compare it to my HK experience? I think I just ran the same nail charms and very rarely changed those out as well.>>722925525They're also wrong, if you're trying to make a point.
>>722925712The intended route is a breakable wall in upper left Sinner's Road (the Mist area turns into a Sinner's Road area when you beat the boss) but you can also find another breakable wall further east in Sinner's Road that takes you to Bilewater, where you can get to The Mist from the other direction. You can not only get to act 2 through the Mist and its subsequent boss, but it's a faster route than the intended Last Judge route.
>>722920330This would have been a step too far
>>722925458>The reason for currency in both games is a) to encourage players to backtrack to areas with vendors to deal with anything new that popped upYou can do this without needing vendors though. Especially since:>or anything new they can access with new abilities>b) to force the player to actually think about what they want to get to further their playstyleEh, that provides some benefit I suppose. I still think it'd be a better game if most of the vendor stuff was just found through exploration.>It's nothing new to limit the resources and options the player has instead of letting them get everything immediately.Neither I nor the other anon were suggesting that you can just get everything immediately. Just that more stuff could be found in the world instead of being purchasables. If anything, buying them allows you to get them much quicker, because you can just grind for it instead of having to actually explore.
>>722925627>>722925712I got there by the secret wall on the left of the top row in Sinner's Road, and when I bumbled through Bilewater enough without the map, I also got to Mist. Both Act 1.
>>722925923I thought the bilewater to Sinner's Road breakable wall was one way, neat if true.

>>722916794Silksong is full of tasteful fan service that can go unnoticed for plebs
