It lacks a coherent, unified narrative, instead being divided into two misaligned halves; The Old Hunters had a similar structure, but its two halves (the sins of the Healing Church and the original sin of the first Hunters) complemented each other. Messmer and Miquella feel like they have nothing to do with each other. It feels like a coincidence that you need to kill Messmer to progress Miquella's plot. And while I appreciate what they were going for with the "high concept" open world areas, half of them are failures.

There's way fewer nooks and crannies that needed to be arbitrarily filled with Arteria Leaves. SotE's map is just much easier and less obnoxious to navigate thanks to this.

It all sounds pretty sound, but can you clear up some things? My understanding was that Marika removed Death from the Elden Ring, and yes, blood fuels the Gate of Divinity, blood fuels the Haligtree, and the Erdtree. But with Death gone, the Erdtree was no longer producing sap, hence no more Erdtree blessings. The Age of Plenty was a direct result of Godfrey waging war for Marika. With Death sealed, and as the dlc shows us, death instead went to the Shadow Lands. That's why the Scadutree is overflowing with sap.

What I'm driving at is there seems to be a looong interim between removing Death, Godfrey being sent away, and the Shattering, where no more bodies were fueling the Erdtree like the Gate of Divinity. Why did Marika wait so long to try ascending?

I'm peppering you with questions because I've never seen this idea but it makes sense. Erdtree rebirth must have stopped because Radagon gave the amber egg and Unborn Rune to Rennala. Rennala can't fully utilize the amber egg because she doesn't understand it, unlike Marika/Radagon. The Nox saw Erdtree rebirth and tried to make their own lord with silver because they have their own prophecy of a Night Lord. All of this feels in keeping.

But how does Radagon represent the Crucible? Is he not a descendant Fire Giant? He's very tall, he's described as having great strength, and Messmer bears a flame. Unless the Crucible is a result of the Giants and Titans of yore, the ones who inhabited Rauh, but even then those aren't Fire Giants either.

Rauh is not cool. The outdoors part looks nice (but gameplay wise it's just as empty as the rest of the DLC), but the indoors maze is dull and repetitive, there are no environmental mechanics, no NPCs, no new enemies or even interesting enemy formations with the ones you've seen before. The Goddess is a being able to control Death and Life through her getting hold of the Elden Ring. This kind of affinity for control of life is seen through various form of Death/Life priestesses. There's not even a single spell attributed to the civilization in the modern day.

The Fell God's eye is designed after the storms on the southern pole of Jupiter, AKA a planet, not the sun. the crossed tree is literally just a crossed tree, that doesn't look like a sunflower or the Scadutree whatsoever. The Helphen isn't a crossed tree, it's a black tree with some kind of chapel on it, per the design of the Helphen's Steeple sword, and that's if the Helphen is even a tree at all.

Nightfolk are silver, not green, and you're confusing the mercenary Gideon calls Ensha with the actual Ensha, whose bones are worn on the mercenary's armor. If the mercenary was loyal to the Haligtree, he'd not do a dang thing for Gideon and would instead have helped the Albinaurics get to Elphael rather than murdering them.

The Nox want a Lord of Night, but seek to make one with their Silver/Mimic Tear experiments, not murdering a demi-god's body, soul, or both. Godwyn isn't collecting jack, the assassins' motive was hating Marika and being paid, and Marika is ALREADY A GOD.

Godefroy is in an Evergaol. Melina is barely alive an unaccounted for by everyone. Messmer is all but forgotten. Also, the Night of Black Knives said that Godwyn was the "first of the demigods to die", which means there were more demigods killed that night besides him. Where are they? In the mausoleums. We literally see that Marika, a god, has a separate person, Godfrey, as her Elden Lord. Ranni, who becomes a god to wield the Elden Ring, has a separate person, the Tarnished, as her Lord of Night. Miquella, a god, has his clusterfuck of part of Radahn's soul in Mohg's transmutated body as his lord. The god and lord are different beings. It's only the case of Marika and Radagon where there's overlap, and that's only because Marika created Radagon from herself, a la Miquella and St. Trina.

Godwyn isn't protecting Fia, that's Fia casting a spell and trying to deceive you just like she tricked you earlier. The attacks stop if Fia is killed, and there's certainly no remnant of Godwyn's spirit interacting with Fortissax.

The Elden Ring is mended in Ranni's ending, she claims the thing from Marika and Marika dissolves away. Ranni begins her own order, which she earlier talked about in the Miniature Ranni conversation at the Site of Grace atop Ranni's Rise. The Elden Ring and godhood are needed to bring about an age, and if Ranni just destroyed the Elden Ring she'd be fucking over the world even harder than she already does by not fixing any of the major problems she caused and leaving the world wide open for the Formless Mother, Scarlet Rot outer god, and Frenzied Flame.

Godwyn's Wetnurse doesn't serve Ranni's Two Fingers, the various Two Fingers had different Finger Readers who served them. the Finger Readers for Ranni's Two Fingers are probably the Finger Readers we can find in Liurnia, not all the way over in Deeproot. The Nox don't do soul transfers into puppets, you only quoted a description about how two Nox chose to afflict themselves with Starlight Shards potions and became enslaved. Everything does confirm that Marika is a god, even the promotional materials for the DLC, which confirm that Marika became a god in the Land of Shadow. Marika doesn't rebirth herself with Radagon, she has already been a god for ages by that point. Marika at once point insults Radagon for not being a god, because he hasn't reassimilated into her enough yet, but that doesn't mean that Marika herself wasn't a god. Marika got burned by whatever ritual the hornsent have in the Cleansing Chamber, the same as Miquella, and then subjected to whatever the Gate of Divinity does. Marika did the same process, she isn't some usurper compared to Miquella. No Empyrean has to die to become a god. Ranni was misled into thinking she had to shed her physical body because her Two Fingers could hijack control of her through it, and Ansbach apparently killed Miquella, forcing Miquella to go about his plan as a spirit.

Godwyn's whole deal is that his soul died, but his body lived. Meanwhile, Ranni's body died but soul lived on.
So a lot of people were expecting us to go to The Land of the Dead to fight Godwyn. Makes sense that his soul would end up there. And instead it's just Radahn again.

What people don't discuss nearly as much as they should is how crappy and half-baked the DLC weapons are.
Sure, light greatswords, odachi and backhand blades are cool. Euphoria is fun. Bone Bow is broken. Claws of Night are top tier. But that's basically it.
The rest of new weapon classes are fucking awful. Martial art weapons are insanely boring, how did they produce something so bland after the motherfucking Bone Fist?
Beast Claws are all sorts of fucked and clearly barely tested, among other things their feint attack can clip into the ground and bounce off it, causing the feint to fail, otherwise they are just crappier claws with none of what makes claws good.
Perfume bottles are possibly the worst weapon type in the game, especially after they nerfed rolling spark into the ground.
Smithscript weapons are even funnier. Their main gimmick is barely functional since the damage falloff makes them barely usable as anything but point blank weaponry.
And by the gods, the vast majority of additions to the existing classes are dull. All DLC boss weapons in particular are insanely boring and samey, they make even DS3 boss weapons look like a pinnacle of game design. There's nothing as cool as Ledo's or Frayed Blade. Genuinely never saw anyone even using new radahn swords because of how garbage they are.

Marika also isn't dead before the ending, she's the one giving Grace to Tarnished and directing them with the guidance of Grace. She's also a no-show for the aftermath of any "Mend the Elden Ring" endings, implying that she's definitely not superpowered and reigning as any kind of "true" god from that.

deathblight is an older malady than godwyn's death and transmogrification. as we see with basilisks present in the lake of rot and statues of them in the catacomb in the shadow lands. his body became a vessel for the outer god that rules deathblight because of the unique circumstances of his death. his throne is the same as caelid or mohgwyn dynasty. places that are being transformed by an outer god. the only reason the outer gods are creeping into tlb is because the elden ring is shattered and this problem is solved with the burning of the erdtree and establishment of a new order.

Farum Azula's situation indicates that Death Blight wasn't invented by Ranni's plan, but the Night of the Black Knives did cause the current outbreak of it. The basilisks at the Lake of Rot are probably there because of afflicted Erdtree roots, much like why there's a Putrid Tree Spirit at the Lake of Rot too. The statues in the Land of Shadow were probably created after the Night of the Black Knives, considering that some of Godwyn's golden knights traveled to the Land of Shadow and two new catacombs Imps seem to have been made in reference to Godwyn. As for outer gods, the Scarlet Rot and Frenzied Flame had notable presences even before the Elden Ring was shattered, so mending the Elden Ring won't resolve those matters entirely.
