How long after Microsoft drops support will game developers stop making video games for Windows 10?
who cares?at this point I'm just switching to linux the next time I need to upgrade
>>722967739You're not tricking me into your movement, Stallman.
Not my problem.
So that means i wont get any more forced updates right?
>>722966884Right now, W10 is still something like 30% of users on Steam. So, devs will only drop W10 when they don't care about losing 30% of their potential sales. For AAA, that will take years.>>722967860Theoretically, although I've seen a few anons say their W10 machine (that's W11 compatible) got the really sneaky 'update' that actually 'upgrades' you to W11 and uses weasel word bullshit like not having a clear 'cancel' button or making it seem mandatory when it isn't, so be careful.
>>722966884games and software will keep working you just can't ask for tech support if you run into a problem, even if it's not even windows' fault. once tech support asks you for your windows version or some sort of diagnostic log that shows you're on the old version they will just drop you and say get the new version no matter what. that's all this shit is for, liability so they can't be sued if something happens while you're using unsupported software.
I always knew having a computer from 2012 would pay off.
>>7229682732012? M8, my PC, built new in 2020 using shit that only came out that year, isn't W11 compatible because it doesn't have any TPM bullshit in it.
>>722968341lol it does it's just not enabled in the bioseven tpm 1.1 has been in use since the 10s
ENROLLED
>>722966884people are still making games for windows 7 you redranged street shitter. do the needful and let a train juggernaut you.
>>722968447Did you pay or get it free somehow?
>>722971069you can it for free if you know where to look.
>>722966884whenever it is, it will be the end of the triple gay videogay industry, only indies will sell because they'll still be making games that can run on not faggot w11
>>722968163So what's the other 70%?
>>722972457
>>722972684I'm disappointed that that many switched to 11.
>>722972684what are the people still on windows 7 up to right now...
>>722967860forced?
>>722973116most normalkeks probably just bought a PC with win11 preinstalled already
>>722967860you'll get one final one in a few days that reduces performance by 30%
>>722973116they just let windows 10 "upgrade" to 11
>>722973449>>722973116i'll bet a massive chunk of steam is kids with tablets
>>722973116nobody wants to deal with troonix
>>722967763Stallman calls it GNU/Linux
>>722967763Stallman looks like he smells like Cheez-Itz.
>>722973332I'm one of them. Mostly it's just for vidya. Anything on Steam that got patched after June-ish this year doesn't download through the steam client, but steamcmd still downloads them perfectly. Security-wise I'm on a NAT behind a linux box and a few other measures.I will eventually move this PC to Mint. Just not yet.
>>722973625>people would rather give up their souls to an OS that forbids local account creation than use something that might've had a tranny involved with it at some point (even though the two aren't mutually exclusive)
>>722967763From what I remember Stallman is kind of anti Linux because he's a genuine schizo and even Linux is not "free" enough for him.
Not my problem
>w10 enterprise w/ ESA installedSupposedly only 3 years support with "potentially" 4-6 more, but we all know those jeets will give in
>>722976445He uses Linux but without any proprietary driver blobs.
>>722976721Devs don't have to support your outdated OS for their video game.
if you're stupid enough to not use linux then you have no right to bitch
>>722967739this, I'm swapping in the next couple days cus I need to clean my pc anyway.
>>722975257They rather stop using computer than migrating to troonix
>>722977092Ah, of course. Trannyism is transmittable through package updates, you know...
>>722966884Games are still being made that work on Win7. The next DX version doesn't seem to be coming out anytime soon, and there's no reason or means to move away from 64 bit architecture. The real kicker is Chromium, and that supported Win7 well after its EoL. LTSC versions of Win10 won't go EoL until 2032, so it's gonna be a while until Chromium can drop it as an OS.
>>722973449This is the reason. The vast majority of people buy pre-builts, and they have the latest OS installed by default. Building your own computer and installing the OS yourself is surprisingly uncommon behavior.
I don't care, I'm on LTSC and I think I still get security updates, but even so I don't care unless some wild RCE shows up. After this I'm probably going to run bazzite or something. Anything with a kernel level anticheat isn't worth playing anymore.
>>722967763linux hasn't been stallman's movement in decades.it's all trannies now, all the way down. stallman would've been better than this bullshit
>>722966884guess i'm fucked
>>722978031>surprisingly uncommonMost people don't know what ISO images or thermal paste are, and would rather just buy the thing instead of rely on a tutorial from The Verge to build it.
Reminder: Microsoft will directly send every unpatched 0day to scamjeet centers (aka their family members) the moment W10 is dropped
>>722978270The funniest part is that building a computer is easy as shit these days, it's been dumbed down enough that it's basically just lego, you just have to follow the instructions with big pictures.
>>722978350Even then, why would you do that when most people just want an internet machine that comes pre-built at the same price?
>>722976445honestly even if you control you kernel it's not like you control the hardware itself and if corporations or governments want to backdoor at the physical level they can (and do!)you'd have to not only be able to make your own operating system but even make your own computer components to truly be free
>>722978494*why would THEY do that
>>722978494Because, as some laptop makers have shown, a user can actually save upwards of 100 bucks if they buy a laptop with no OS installed or with a "free" one installed. The only reason why it isn't an option that is available from most manufacturers is because M$ throws a hissy fit the moment any of the big players tries to crawl out from under their thumb.
You can still play games on Windows 7 as well so I don't think it's gonna be an issue any time soon
>>722967739>>722977091I swapped a week ago. I got fed up with windows explorer constantly crashing, and being served ads in my start menu instead of the applications I have on my computer. I don't think I'm ever going back to windows when I can just have an up to date windows 7 experience on a platform that isn't always spying on me or trying to serve me ads.
You know those naughty boys have 0days and worms prepped. Do you think Microsoft will really go through with it?
>You can use TSforge option in MAS to activate 3 Years ESU (Oct 2025 to Oct 2028).
What an explosive launch this Windows 11 0f yours had.
>tfw on W11 and nothing at all is different in my day-to-day operations (or anything, for that matter) compared to W10i still to this day do not know what people are so outraged over.
>>7229826413?
>>722975020vxkexit let you upgrade to win10 steam client(and make it work on win7) and download/update games normally
>>722977873No they aren't. Games can still work on Windows 7, but nobody is actually going out of their way to make them work or test them. Windows 7 does not even get drivers for hardware anymore.
>>722973116all new pc are sold with only win11 and that was like few years ago
>>722984780>nobody is actually going out of their way to make them work or test themI never said that, I said that games are being made that work on Win7, which is an objective fact.
>>722972684>Windows 7: 0.07%I wonder what's the actual number is, since most people have started working around Steam "new compression algorithm".
>>722984840That's a completely empty thing to say. Games made today might work on Windows 2000 too. It's not a platform that's actually being targeted and the only reason stuff might work is because it doesn't happen to use anything that is missing on the old OS.Software working by coincidence isn't a meaningful thing.
>>722984750nta but I'm using it, works well enough, creates a fuckton of logs tho. Also Steam does weird shit with 32 bits launchers (usually older games) so I need to manually enable VxKex on their launcher for them to start.
>>722966884Year and a half tops. SDKs will just drop 10 for no reason at all so suddenly no more updates to existing software, Nvidia and AMD will drop drivers despite the numbers, and so on. Happened to 7, happened to 8.1, will happen much faster now as MS dropped all pretenses of giving a shit.
still not using linux lmao
>>722985274Wait for Microsoft to release Windows 12 with DX13 (not compatible with Windows version below 12)
>>722985332Yeah, I think they got a worthless DX12 revision for 11 too, you can expect all memetracing to require it if you're a moron into that ugly slideshow shit.
>>722985274It took 4 years for people to face significant issues with 7 after 10, and that was a much more accepted transition. 1/3 of PC are not compatible with 11 and turnover to 11 will still take 2-3 years to get >90% range. Microjeet has no incentive to force a harsher transition unless they actually want to launch mass linux.
Anyone whos still running 7 would be doing themselves a favor by switching to Linux at this point.
oh my god just shoot me in the head I don't care anymore
I installed windows 10 ltsc and it just works
>>722967739I've opted into the extension.I'll buy a laptop before Oct 26 and learn linux on that before moving over.
>>722971069EU gets it for free
>>722966884The first game that didn't run on 7/8 that I wanted to play was Death Stranding in 2020, that was less than 6 months after 7's EOL (not including ESU) and 2.5 years before 8.1's EOL.It didn't even support Windows 10 versions before 1809.But it was because it required DX12 and Windows 11 doesn't have a new DirectX so 10 is probably safe for some time outside of games that require TPM and SecureBoot and 10 supports those anyway.
I installed Windows 11 enterprise with rufus, uninstalled the handful of garbage pre-installed programs and ran a couple of of anti-telemetry programs and now it's basically the same as windows 10.I don't know why people are acting like win 11 will kill them.
>>722987041This. The worst part of 11 is that awful new context menu that can be disabled with one registry key change, but otherwise the constant stuttering I had in Windows 10 since the 2017 update is finally gone and therefore 11 > 10.
>>722966884Install linux.
>>72298716011 is still better than Linux.
>>722973332Postng neonazi propaganda on /v/ still falling for 2012 tier culture war bait.TF2
>>722987160Windows with WSL 2 > any troonix distro
No.
>>722987094i thought the context stuff was a W10 thing, been so long since i had to do that too. that was the only thing that irked me and it was a 30 second fix, lel.
>>722986621no thx
>>722987590Nobody is going to force you, nor should they, but at this point, Windows 7 needs more work arounds to function normally than Linux does.
>>722987735How so? Windows 7 runs as it always has on my PC.Steam has a stupid red banner, but otherwise works and all the games I play run just like they always have.Firefox ESR still gets constant security updates that just keep getting extended on 7.
>>722987971I admit I haven't used 7 in a while, and Im basing this off of what I've read online. Many people have said there are issues with Steam decompression, needing to use directx compatibility tools for some games, and lack of support for software in general, including drivers for newer hardware. If it's working for you, then hell yeah dude. However, a day will come when it won't anymore, be it 10 days or 10 years from now, and unless you want Microsoft or Apple's dick in your mouth, all you have left is Linux. In case you ever do care to try it, the best distros for gaming are:Easy - BazziteMedium - NobaraMedium/Hard - CashyOS
>>722988630I forgot to add that the one I personally use is Nobara.
>>722972684>zoomies didn’t HODLNgmi
>>722978164And that's a good thing because decades of stallman got us nowhere and a few years of trans development has made a lot work better.
>>722988630>all you have left is Linuxnope, there's templeos and openbsd
>>722986621>>722987160We're full, actually.
>>722989704Ah yes, of course, how could I have forgotten.
Sorry, this >>722989995 was for >>722989548
>>722973116>NOOOOOOOOO RETARDS EXIST REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEOnly fucking morons contribute to the opt-in hardware survey.
