Type Moon has planned to remake Tsukihime since Plus Disc and yet they decided to continuously put it off in favor of unlimited Fate spin-offs (the worst offender being Fate Grand Order) and when they finally got around to making it, they could not be bothered to put their full effort into it. The original Tsukihime was released in 2000, Plus Disc was released 2001 (this is where they discussed a possible remake of Tsukihime after finishing the project they were working on at the time, Fate), then they officially announced a remake in 2008, the character designs for the remake were released in 2012 to mixed reception, and the remake was released in 2021 with the same mediocre designs previously teased that left people divided. They had all this time to make something truly amazing, possibly even better than Mahoyo (their best VN). But they squandered all that potential by ignoring the reception of the designs they teased, changing the story to pander to Fate fans, and not even giving a Mahoyo tier visual experience. Some of the visuals feel more like they would fit in FGO at the worst of times and the original Fate at the best of times (not a bad thing, but one would expect more after Mahoyo). Nasu supposedly cut out Nrvnqsr Chaos because he is too powerful and he wants to save him for something else (surprise he ended up in FGO) only to then replace him with the most generic vampire you could imagine, VLOV. He was even designed specifically to look like a generic vampire, as if that is somehow a good thing. Type Moon used to be more urban fantasy, rather than classic fantasy. Alice was even said to be the only exception as she could use fairy tale magic thanks to her ancestry. Now we have these generic fantasy characters invading the urban fantasy, muddying the atmosphere.

Ultimately Arc's route is the same as the original, with manga additions and the new center piece with Blob, but it's still ultimately very similar. Ciel's route gets most of the new stuff, some of which I like - I do think Ciel is generally more interesting in the remake - but then there are other things which just simply antithetical to the aesthetic of Tsukihime with the ridiculous power scaling and the crazy shit going on. If Nasu puts that stuff to the side for Far Side and focuses more on the surreal / dream / gothic horror aspects like the original did, then I'd be fine with it.
