Are these games actually worth the hype? I noticed they show often up in collaborations with other games. Where and how should I start as a beginner and what can I expect? Not sure how much is autism hype and what is real about Touhou being fun games.

You can pick up one of those that happens to strike your fancy, or if you want to be force-fed a specific installment, start from the first few Windows games. Touhou Koumakyou: The Embodiment of Scarlet Devil, Touhou Youyoumu: Perfect Cherry Blossom, Touhou Eiyashou: Imperishable Night, or Touhou 6, 7 or 8 for short. But there's also so many fangames of different genres that are decent too that you could probably pick any genre of your preference and find something more or less Touhou-themed.

>>722996380I'm not a bullet-hell expert but I think they're fine. The advice I remember being given as a new player is to start with Embodiment of Scarlet Devil until you get frustrated and then switch to Perfect Cherry Blossom, and then go on from there. You could probably also just start with PCB but that will make it much harder to eventually go back to EoSD (EoSD doesn't let you see your character's actual hitbox, and PCB has a mechanic that occasionally lets you take an extra hit). Again, I'm far from a regular bullet-hell player but I found the games to be pretty challenging. So far the only game I got a good ending in is Imperishable Night (and Flower View if that counts), and I haven't been able to clear any game without continues yet. It's really just a matter of practice and patience though.

they are pretty cool and fun, 99% of people will tell you to start with 6 as thats the start of the windows era but i think 7 is a bit easier with some qol changes that 6 lacks that makes it just a smudge easier to play for newbies glory to the CCP
