It's a pointless limitation that only exists to stop retards wasting ammo IRL. You can burst fire just fine with a fully automatic

Every single time this gun has ever been in a game it's a 3 shot burst.
Is it just Metal Gear Solid to blame for this or is the FAMAS notable for it's burst capability in some way? I'm not /k/ at all.

it was like cold war 2 and they tried to innovate the infantry weapons while everyone else stopped developing any weapons at all after the 90s

nowadays guns are so fucking boring

That's an understatement. Look at most games today when they need to pad out the weapon lists. They will pull up literally 60 year old shit because the stuff now is so fucking generic. Same with cars nothing sticks out anymore unless it's some borderline retard design like the Tesla boxtruck.

anon, people run out of bullets all the time. Also, no gun is truly silent and still practical for widespread use. Charging positions still can cause soldiers to rout if done properly. The bigger issue is that according to Geneva convention you're not supposed to kill retreating soldiers. Bayonetting kinda necessitates that they are losing and abandoning the position (although not always). Public wants clean kills like you were hunting deer for pelts.

Burst fire was conceptually a military R&D meme about multiple projectiles increasing statistical hit accuracy. They did duplex and triplex bullets, flechettes, etc. It also came from draftees spraying and praying.

Decades later and I don't think anyone considers burst fire to be tactically a good thing.
>>
>>723209296
>anon, people run out of bullets all the time.
No they don't.
>Also, no gun is truly silent and still practical for widespread use
Stabbing people is way louder than shooting them with a suppressed weapon. Don't make up some james bond shit about stabbing them while clamping their mouth shut, that's not gonna work with a bayonet.
>Charging positions still can cause soldiers to rout if done properly.
Shooting them works a lot better, especially considering your charge is over the second the enemy shoots at you. Bayonet charges were obsolete a century ago with the proliferation of the machinegun.
>The bigger issue is that according to Geneva convention you're not supposed to kill retreating soldiers
No it does not. You are 1000% allowed to kill retreating soldiers.

You are wrong on all counts and have no idea what you're talking about but are blathering on and on anyway over one incident the bongs made up about a bayonet charge where literally no one got bayoneted.

Anon CoD has been full of weird gun idosyncracies from the start, it's just that it's gotten worse over time, I don't know what you expected. Basically any gun in a nu-CoD game is guaranteed to have some dumb bullshit going on with it, whether it's a 'knockoff' model (pretty much always happens with the licensed guns) that would make the guns non-functional, perfect example being the F2000 in Vanguard, stupid conversion mods, statistic changes that make it heavily inaccurate operation-wise from the IRL thing for the sake of gameplay '''balance''', etcetera
Sucks, because most normalfags get their gun knowledge from shit like CoD. now you have to listen to them call shit by retarded names like '''Kastov''' and '''Tsarkov'''

Blame am general for that one. They sued Activision for using humvee in their games and every CoD game post mw2 no longer has major setpieces featuring humvees like mw2 opening. In the reboot they don't even have humvees or real guns anymore as Activision decided to play it safe despite the fact that they won the lawsuit and have a billion dollar to spare for such scenario. Meanwhile at the same time, GTA V fake cars and guns started started to accurately resemble their real life counterparts.

Kulik was pretty famously a hopeless commander of infantrymen and a lot of the infantry success in Stalingrad and such was off of the back of the PPSh and PPD being fantastic guns for those conditions (as opposed to Germany where Hitler had the mindset of 'NEIN EVERY INFANTRYMENSCH SHOULD BE A SHARPSHOOTER' to the point where he tried shutting down the production of the Sturmgewehr multiple times when it was literally THE future of infatnry weaponry)

They tend to either have oversampling issues (M16A4 in BF4) or obnoxious burst delays (FAMAS in MW2019). That being said even some annoying ones are good. AN94 usually is a lot of fun though it's usually better with the hyperburst followed by automatic fire. M8A1 from BO2 and the M1912/P16 Maschinenpistole Experimental from BF1 are personal favs of mine. Two-round bursts tend to work better. I do think the MW2019 FAMAS is good despite its burst delay.

It's a terrible attempt at preventing panic autofire, providing a soldier with a controlled burst so the bullets go more or less in the same place (not really), and. The M16 burst works on a ratchet system so you have to HOLD down the trigger for all three shots before it resets. It also doesn't reset if you take your finger off the trigger after only one or two shots, so your next "burst" will be whatever you had left before the reset. Absolutely retarded shit. Stoner was right.
>>723208336

They're known as "tactical" silencers/suppressors. They're not meant to be sneaky beaky but to just reduce the overall sound profile (in this case, the bang) of shots which helps conceal to the position of the shooters to the enemy, giving you a longer window of surprise if you're not easily visible.

'NEIN EVERY INFANTRYMENSCH SHOULD BE A SHARPSHOOTER'
Although this comes off as retarded fudd boomer shite, if you remove the benefit of hindsight, this philosophy wasn't totally unfounded as we see some of the meme returning even now with the XM7. Not to mention at the time the StG was being introduced, Germany was on the defensive and one of the chief ways to ravage an assault before they can reach you is to extend the fatal range that enemy troops have to cross (or pick off defenders from beyond their easy reach when you're on the attack). Not to mention the extra logistical fuckery a new weapon and cartridge would introduce when Germany had chronic ammunition issues throughout the entire conflict. Hitler was something of a tard on occasion, but he was reasonably wise to military and strategic matter so I'll forgive him on this front.

Armies always prepare themselves for the previous war. The XM7 could have made sense in Afghanistan, but not so much in eastern european muddy plains. The footage from the Ukrainian trenches show that intermediate calibers still perform well enough against armored opponents in close quarters, so it's still preferable to have more ammo than more range.

First of all, no. Soldiers weren't throwing away their issued weapons. Secondly, MP-40s were relatively rare, unlike in CoD where every other German has one. Germans captured something like a million PPShs during their first offensive, which is about the total amount of MP-40s produced during the war. Thirdly, there's a bit "grass is greener" thing with soldiers, Red Army soldiers also used MP-40s.

Lastly, he probably said that before WW2. During WW2, Soviet army used SMGs in very large quantities.

So no, he didn't "ban" SMGs, as if such a decision would be made by a general or even a marshal.

Not an argument. I'm former law enforcement and own guns, while you probably don't. The fact that veterans are talking about their past experience is not the problem of course, but you misinterpreted my post on purpose.

From a business perspective, it doesn't make much sense to pay $$$ to HK or FN just to put the real name of their guns in your game. The target audience (normalfags) doesn't really care most of the time. Not to forget muh lawsuits. That sucks but that's how it is.

There's those university studies that came to the conclusion that it'd be easier to destroy the site with a flood of shitposts than maintain a shilling campaign. Judging from the article they wrote it sounds like they were just disturbed that they were accurately being called out as shills. One I'm thinking of is called "mining the chans" and it's an incredibly blatant admission of how openly malevolent they are.
>>
>>723228942
Indeed. Just rub anons the right way and it's easy to push them in the direction you want. But /k/ is still a particular case among 4chan because the change of moderation policy was very obvious about one week after the start of the Ukraine war, which means the moderating team itself is complicit. There have been similar claims about /pol/ mods too, but at least your posts don't get easily deleted there, unless you post porn baits and actual spam of course, same for /v/ and /tv/. Idk about the other boards.

Yeah, that's the exact argument Activision used against AM general and they win that, setting precedent for future court cases. But for some reason they refuse to use modern guns or am general product anymore. Yet at the same time, rockstar is getting more brazen with their vehicle and weapon likeness. There is Toyota supra and nissan gtr r32 in the game now with less difference compared to the real things unlike in previous GTA.

No, every boomer politicians believe that. No Russian is banned in Australia and Germany. Leftist Californian also banned game companies from promoting real life guns to children. Did you know why MW2 feature the bushmaster ACR prominently and made it one of the meta weapon? Remington paid activision to do it since they hold the license for civilian model of ACR.

>>
>>723206795

>>
>>723186671
It was pretty much just a compromise.
The USMC (the M16A2 was a USMC project) wanted to get rid of select fire altogether, because the M249 would take over the role of the squad automatic weapon and it would be a huge ammo sink.
The Army wanted to keep full auto, so they went with the 3-round burst as a compromise.
>>
>>723231310
It would, but you might as well use a P90.
And now that I think about it, a P90 mutated to a battle rifle size, with longer gun frame and longer barrel would look hot as fuck.
>>

P90 is SMG, right? And that one is an AR platform, sounds like a big difference to me.

Battlefield V has one of the best implementations I've ever seen. They deal massive suppression damage and are the only class of weapons in the game that can 3D spot enemies with their suppression, the way they're designed organically nudges players into employing them like actual MG's.

>The USMC (the M16A2 was a USMC project) wanted to get rid of select fire altogether, because the M249 would take over the role of the squad automatic weapon and it would be a huge ammo sink.
And now every marine is an automatic rifleman thanks to the adoption of the M27. The irony is palpable. I wonder how often the Marines actually get to shoot full-auto.

You don't use automatic fire in real life anyway unless you're laying down suppressing fire. If you're actually trying to hit a target you're shooting semi. Burst is a good middle ground for slinging more rounds down range but still maintaining accuracy.

Up until they hire a resident gun autist like Josh Sawyer who will be having his own flamewars in the comments over how things should be implemented. For the most part studios will sidestep them to avoid the ensuring headache.
>>
>>723201020
COD stopped giving a shit about firearm authenticity around when they started introducing tomahawks and ballistic knives
>>
>>723251323
You know the funny thing about Sawyer? He wasn't really into guns until New Vegas. He literally got into guns (watched a ton of Hickok45 and Paul Harrel, did research, went to a range, bought several guns and learned to shoot, disassemble and maintain them) so he could better portray them in Fallout. He also famously went on a motorbike trip to personally get photos and "feel" for the locations.

That's why New Vegas is like it is, because it was a dream project for director and he was REALLY dedicated and autistic about getting it right.

Yes it did, the L was supposed to replace the M4A1 but got ditched at the last second. Only the H got adapted and that was mainly for special forces units only. We're already seeing it happen again with the spear, the US military is already complaining about it being too heavy and asking sig to make a compact version. By the time they actually do it the contract will either have already been dropped or changed to where it only gets adapted by SOCOM.
>>
>>723184951
M4A1 has the best licensing deal out of all of them, that's why.

If FN's target demographic was Belgian sales, they wouldn't exist as a company. Like half the world used the FAL. Nobody of any relevance uses the SCAR. SOCOM dabbled with and largely dropped it.

The people getting the most use out of the SCAR are fuckin Kenyans.

>>
>>723184951
don't they not actually use the burst function?
>>723186671
It's unpopular in vidya because people want to shoot full auto and it's unpopular irl because the mechanism is complicated and makes the trigger gay and the whole thing was an 1980/90s experiment to increase hit rates which has been largely accomplished by mass issuing ACOGs and other optics.
the thought was a burst of 2 or 3 rounds means more lead in the air, it's more likely to hit someone than a single shot but the soldier can't just hold the trigger down and dump all his ammo like full auto

What do you mean? M16a2 and M4 both used burst function, and in certain circumstances it was used. The more modern M16a4 and M4a1 do not have a burst function.

the m16a2 and original M4s have burst selectors, but the army and marine doctrine was to just use them in semi auto basically all the time. It's the same thing with the retarded 2 position flip on the a2 irons, no one ever fucking uses that shit. no one dials with a2 irons either unless they are on a KD range. and you don't carry the gun via the carry handle

If this sort of crypto-traitors to not just any sort of national interests, but to fellow humans, doesn't care about agriculture, why would they care about military expertise?

Wonder if you could apply similar logic to the weaponized famines that are currently playing out in real time. If it isn't your race or creed then it was never really your problem. Kneecapping your industrial base is one thing but staffing the defense forces with literal walking incompetents is just asking for someone else to roll through and wipe you out wholesale. >how the fuck are they meant to survive anywhere beyond a century or two?
Such an interest assumes at bare minimum that most people in power care about such things, and that they aren't engineered inrto power to ensure a nation dies in a century or two by somebody with limited means of manipulation.
That is to say, suvival and advancent of a nation in bad position or in failure modes becomes partially incidental, because the continuously decreasing amount of people with power that actually care is outnumbered and has to wrangle and circumnavigate everyone just to keep the entire system afloat.
Look at modern day EU party members, or some (((Katz))) in Gosduma, do you think they care about anything otheeer than a cushy chair?
Can you imagine the sheer international bitching if someone like Pavel I ended up ruling modern Europe or Britain? The sheer state of things.
