Download the chosen LTSC you want (Win 11 or 10) and you will still get the necessary security updates for many years to come. Added bonus is the lack of bullshit software built it. But doesn't mean you can't add it later.

Be warned, developers could drop windows 10 support so newer games in the future may not work on win 10 LTSC. So you could opt for Win 11 LTSC and still bypass the Microsoft account nonsense.

you know this means nothing right. also 10 LTSC doesnt support DX12.2 when the OS runs the same base version as the regular w10 that had dx12.2 shipped in. just install 11 LTSC or use linux instead

Nah, once the Win 10 support goes, I'm switching to Linux for good. I don't give a single fuck what game I'm missing, there's a whole backlog worth of games that'll take a lifetime to complete, and all that's waiting for me.
The gaming industry is basically on its last legs at this point anyway. I'm just hoping for a 1983-style crash again so the industry can be reborn and we can get good games again.

The videogame crash can literally never happen again anon. At best you can hope for a majority of the companies to collapse, but you'll still be left with atleast a few trillion dollar titans who suck the money out of every normalfag with their yearly sportsgames.
Even if literally the entire industry implodes, there will still be indiefags making the next $5 sloppa for everyone to gravitate to at the very least.

The point of filters is to remove dogshit bottom of the barrel posts so you don't have to waste time looking at them at all, to hide something manually you still have to read it, you preachy fucking clown.

Such as? I've been using Linux exclusively for a couple years. For 90% of my games I just click play, maybe select a different proton version for 9% of games and the most I've ever had to do for 1% of games is use protontricks to install some dependency. I can't remember a single game I've had to refund because it didn't work, and I don't even check protondb before buying anymore since like a couple months after I switched to Linux.

There is no need to be disingenuous. Wangblows will require less tinkering than Linux and you know this. The tinkering is also just a one-off thing whereas with Linux you run the risk of having to do it multiple times because something you wanted to install didn't work out of the box.

Surprised my thread has lasted as long as it did.

Read the replies and it seems more are interested or are using linux.

If someone is wanting to move to Linux but concerned due to having to use terminal alot, then I suggest using Bazzite or CachyOS (especially if you are using nvidia gpus, as CachyOS does work out if the box with it).

CachyOS has a fantastic wiki that I use if I ever run into issues. Which I have, won't lie. But most issues are easy fixes. Was able to get all the games I play (some old, some new) with little effort. Now most games I install now just works (first install configurations that work on future install of games).

Currently local accounts can still be done on windows 11 25h2, but current test windows doesn't allow it. Will it be a problem then jn the future? Probably. Hopefully the team at Rufus figures it out.

Otherwise, windows 11 25h2 LTSC IoT does exist.

I'd use EndeavorOS or Mint instead if you're a Linux noob.

Once you get comfortable with Linux you can move onto CachyOS or Bazzite as you now understand their quirks more.

Windows is bloated at the core. You are thinking too noob level. The kernel and wddm and dwm.exe itself cannot be "unbloated". To unbloat it means starting over aka a brand new OS like Linux.
>>
>>723226602
I like playing video games
>>
>>723237083
I've used Mint before but not endeavor. Mint is indeed easy but requires driver management for nvidia. While CachyOS does not.

With that said, easiest would be Bazzite. Since it's an Atomic distro (not exactly fully locked down but sorta is) that relies mostly on flatpaks for nearly everything outside of gaming, it's really hard to screw up. And most important software currently has a flatpak variant aside a few (DaVinci resolve & Winboat from top of my head), then I imagine it works for most users.

You can setup nvidia drivers automatically during Endeavor install.

I do not like recommending CachyOS or Bazzite to noobs because they rely on custom kernel tweaks that breaks various games. You need to be an advanced user to know this stuff. Endeavor/Mint is just stock latest Arch kernel.

That's the thing, Windows 10 was as stable as it could get (as long as you kept system "updates" off) and still very widely used, and the only reason why Windows 11 got a higher marketshare was because of people buying new laptops with 11 Home preinstalled. There was no reason whatsoever for Windows 10 to reach end of life when it's still a very popular OS used both by users and businesses, and especially when 11 wasn't even compatible with a lot of PCs because of secure boot bullshit, so you will soon start seeing landfills getting filled to the brim with "old" PCs now that they're being forced to switch them to machines compatible with 11.

I'm sticking with 10 IoT LTSC for as long as I humanly can, and surely by 2032 Linux will be popular enough for almost every program to be compatible with it without depending on Windows emulation.

I just "upgrade" by just using windows update today and it just smoothly transitions over to win 11. My desktop icons got shuffled but overall all my programs run as intended and nothing tragic seems to have happened to my drives or user files.
I was already using admin local account and I had done bunch of restrictions on registry and GP side during win10 early days (because it was huge bloat as we all recall when we were mad about win10 and I actually had to remove bunch so win 11 would be offered to me lmao) so I didnt need to set up any weird accounts or anything like that and my win 11 started on my local admin account.
Next thing on my list is to comb through settings, GPs ,registry etc. if I need to kill anything that side.
I am a reluctant but lazy win 11 updater because I just have so much work and hobby software I don't want to break and this was the least painful option since at least I can remove the smell from this shit with 3rd party software and setting fuckery.

Linux Mint is pretty foolproof, it's the go-to distro people install on their parents/grandparents old hardware so they can use it without worries. Very beginner-friendly OS. In terms of programs, does she rely on specific programs that may not be on Linux? There usually are open-source alternatives.

>and still bypass the Microsoft account nonsense.
that's not the real issue. the real issue is their push for (((TPMs))) and (((secure boot))), both anti-user features aimed at locking down PCs like consoles
if those two technologies really were about security instead of DRM, TPMs wouldn't have baked in keys (especially ones that are signed by the OEM). they'd store a randomly generated key instead. and secure boot wouldn't rely on third-party CAs or brick if you replace the default platform keys (some hardware such as graphics cards may refuse to boot if you change the keys). moreover, the system can't be pro-consumer as long as there's no owner override to both technologies (aka what would defeat their use case as DRM)

This. The crash of 1983 was localized entirely to North America and happened because there were a billion shit consoles all with slightly different variants of the same shit games, so parents had no idea what to buy and what was good and so gave up, and the super-saturated market collapsed.

And it didn't even last that long, because Nintendo popped in with the NES, good games, and a seal that promised parents that the games for the console were completely playable and worth purchasing. That ended the crash and started a new era of gaming. So long as Nintendo exists, the crash can't ever happen again.

August 2025 dealt with remote code execution through malicious websites. You want to chance that? Some Ransomware hack that gets shoved onto all of your data? A lot of these things are detected via white hat groups who send in their information to MS hopefully before it was exploited. They don't always catch it which is why zero-days are always going to be a risk, but the more layers of security you can put between you and a breach the better. Don't be stupid with your data

>Microsoft's recent updates during August 2025 Patch Tuesday highlight a significant security effort, addressing over 100 vulnerabilities across its major products such as Windows, Office, and Hyper-V. Among these vulnerabilities, several have been rated as critical, with CVE-2025-53766 noted for its potential for remote code execution through malicious websites. Despite reports of an absence of active exploitation, the critical nature of these vulnerabilities necessitates immediate attention from users to mitigate any potential risks.

Note that I'm not advocating for W11 being a good OS over moving to linux or some shit, just that actually keeping a system with mission critical or sensitive data up to date is actually important.

you get no security updates. Over time your system will become more vulnerable to random exploits that you have no control over even with an antivirus. These will range wildly in their use and impact to your system/data but you might never run into it. Could be code execution, ransomware, infostealing, etc. Same reason you update your web browser and use adblock.

LOOONG term some software might drop support for your W10. I recommend either updating to W11 or Linux.

You should also probably update your router's firmware if you haven't in a while, just a reminder

Nothing just like the people who dont update windows for months dont have any issues
Only reason to be worried would be if you pirate games regularly and some bullshit gets added that your win10 defender doesnt know about anymore
>>
>>723266552
I'd rather tinker with Linux because it's more customizable and gives me more control over what I run on my machine.
Linux is the better choice for technical people, and Windows is the better choice for normies who don't care about being spied on.

The proper term is "normalfag".

You need to go into your BIOS and enable Secure Boot and TPM 2.0. Even after enabling those it still said my PC didn't meet the requirements and wasn't letting me update to 11

I've been using Linux for a decade but I just installed Windows 10 ltsc on a separate drive because I have to transfer all my old mini tvs. What a fucking nightmare. So many updates and reboots, and then in the middle of a mini DV transfer it auto shuts off because I'm using the evaluation version. People who use Windows like being raped

Yeah OP bring up a good point. I don't really want to go to 11, but capcom made an update like a week ago saying they aren't supporting windows 10 from here on out. I imagine most other companies are doing the same.

No but studios have already announced they are cutting support for W10. You can avoid it via work arounds I'm sure, but at that point you may as well just be on linux.

Takin a dll and pasting it into the game folder is really not that much work.

I built a new desktop last weekend and was ready for pain installing win 11
I media created a flash drive straight from MS installed home, didn't connect to the Internet, entered one cmd line and I could make a local account.
Got a 10 dollar key off Groupon and it worked to activate
It was a nothingburger and you can easily uninstall OneDrive and copilot
>>
>>723270565
the ssd failures caused by a windows update turned out to be bullshit.
>>
>>723271772
For now, but the point here is to highlight how this will be an increasing issue the longer you sit on W10 LTSC. In a perfect world gaben would get off his ass and make a proper steamOS, but this is not a perfect world.
>>
>>723271798
Does that upgrade your existing shit, or did you have to wipe your main drive and do a fresh install? Also whats the cmd line argument? massgrave?
>>
>>723271798
how do you login your win11 pc without an internet connection
>>
>>723272096
It's better to install the entire thing. If you somehow fucked up your previous OS you will still migrate some of those fucked up settings to the new OS, also you might forget to remove some really old drivers or other things. Not worth the pain, just get a USB and copy your shit, or upload it to google drive or whatever and then reinstall.
Either way you should always have at least 2 SSDs, one with 200GB just for Windows and another 1-2TB for steam, games, videos, etc. This makes reinstalling much easier and faster.
>>
>>723272238
>login your win11 pc without an internet connection
You don't need internet to login, safe mode still exists.
>>
>>723218636
You don't need security updates if you're just a home user. They're a meme.

I guess the year of the Linux desktop is finally here.
>>
>>723218770

>>
>>723218636

>>

It was a fresh install on a new computer
When booting the installer flashdrive don't be connected to a network
Press shift f10 enter oobe/bypassnro and it will reboot and let you continue setup not connected to the Internet and make a local account

after updating to windows 11 I have this weird browser glitch where the top part of the the screen stays while I scroll so only the bottom part actually scrolls, if I click around the top part refreshes and it works again, not sure if it's a driver issue since I updated it after moving to 11 or is it something weird going on, I think I had this before on other version but forgot since it was long ago

People here are masters of creating fictional scenarios in their head to justify doing nothing, when that same fictional scenario still applies to them.
Or do you believe you're magically immune to rootkits pushed through trusted channels while on 11?
