It only has 2 decent arcs, theirs a reason it seems like everyone only talks about the golden age when that only makes up like 1/7th of the story

Anna Karenina is more an insider's thing, your average joe has never heard of it. War & Peace or the Great Gatsby is far more popular. DBZ or NGE are bigger animes, berserk is only going through a Reddit renaissance.

>>
>>723235340
NGE definitely has delusional faggots, but I can't see DBZ fans actually putting it up as the greatest example of the medium unless that's all they've seen. It's not JUST about popularity, but what is perceived as quality. The Matrix was insanely popular, but putting it on the top 500 is generous.

Ocarina of Time isn't the best game ever made. Hell, it hasn't even been the best Zelda game since the moment Majoras Mask came out. It's just historically significant. I'd say "The way Citizen Kame" is historically significant but I honestly think Kane is significantly better as a movie than OoT is as a game.

I'm not that big on Godfather either but at least I can see where that's coming from. Now, Godfather 2 is incredibly overrated.

>>723230169
First, I doubt Anna Karenina is a popular choice.
Second, removing literature, all the examples there, except Ocarina of Time, are totally capable of entertaining normalfags. OOT is too outdated and bad for the average consumer to bother seeing any value in it (there is some value, despite it being a bad game).
For something to gain any traction in popular opinion, it needs to be easily digestible, something that has value, but this value is easily understood and its entertainment potential is immediate.
OOT doesn't have that. It's an ugly game, running at 20 fps, with terrible controls, excessive handholding, no quality of life, no depth in gameplay. It's simply something that normalfags won't really appreciate, unless they're being socially pressured to do so.

Not really, none of the celebrities who were named in Epstein's list took a hit from being associated with Epstein
Trump's association was largely dismissed until his birthday card got leaked, Andrew is less to do with the list and more to do with him actually getting sued by the victim, and Clinton had heavy association with Epstein and his presence appeared outside the list, outside of that nothing really happened.
Should being on the list count them as being 100% guilty? I don't know, but at least the general public doesn't deem them as a pedo. You're more likely to get cancelled for saying random shit on Twitter than being on the Epstein's list.

Every single 2D Zelda game is better than Post's empty field waiting simulator

The 80s/90s/2000s was an era where monoculture was still a thing, with titanic celebrities like Michael Jackson, Tom Cruise, Steven Spielberg, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Brad Pitt, etc. being household names. I recall fairly recently "leaked PS6 specs" threads, and anons were claiming victory on specs alone, without any idea of games. That is the reality gen 7 onward cultivated. I'm content agreeing to disagree, but as a purist, I believe when the coin flipped, and gaming went from niche and nerdy to mainstream, it's the vidya equivalent of a Hollywood sellout

Tupac was the son of Black Panthers, the same movement that had Eldridge Cleaver as its leader in the past, that same guy in the book "Soul on Ice" talked about raping white women as a insurrectionary act, here's a quote:
"I crossed the tracks and sought out white prey. I did this consciously, de-liberately, willfully, methodically.... Rape was an insurrectionary act."
The NYT also named it one of their 10 books of the year.

The answer is yes. Basically all artists that Americans love are leftists at best and communists at worst. Why do you think your country is in the state that it is now? Because you worshipped blacks and jews. On the topic of Black Panthers, MJ literally turns into a Black Panther in one of his clips.

I think you have to have a certain sensibility to fully appreciate the other two mentioned, which I believe I do, but mononoke had a good balance of action, drama, fantasy, narrative, style, and sound. >>
>>723266730
I agree with that take and I'm not biased; I'm not really a movie or TV show person at all, so I'm very picky with what I watch on those rare occasions. I feel like a lot of people's favorite Ghibli movies are whatever they watched when they were younger, so it's not like I can't understand what people see in Spirited Away. It's not like Ghibli movies are that wildly different from one another.

Bible has Harry Potter beat on copies sold. But that's largely due to just how much longer the Bible has existed.

If we go by current time, and take into account how many people nowadays have actually read it? Yeah no use going "everyone knows Jesus"! People also know Frankenstein but so few have actually read the book that it had to be a thing to remind everyone that Frankenstein was actually the name of the scientist.

Yes and no

Harry Potter wins because it's easier to read than the Bible. The Bible has a lot of antiquated language and there are boring passages that are nothing but lists of names. Harry Potter is highly exciting and very easy to read.

I'm open to being corrected, the Beatles reek of
>Popular because they were the first
rather than
>Objectively good regardless of time and place
Certain media - be it tv or books or stories or music or games or whatever - are celebrated for what they first accomplished rather than objectively what they are. If you removed them, kept that they started a trend then dropped them in 5-10 years later they wouldn't have nearly the gravitas they did otherwise.

You can take Jackson and drop him in a world without Jackson 5-10 years later and he's still exploding the world. You could take a world without jackson and have him appear in 2025 circa his 1980 form and he'd explode in appeal. Snip the Beatles out and drop them in circa 1970 and they'd be just another group. I just do not fucking hear beatles music ever anywhere, whereas you can hear any of Jacksons big hits (Solo, so not his childhood shit) and they work perfectly today. Lemme know who the fuck would actually think "We all live in a yellow submarine" or "She loves you yeah yeah yeah yeah" are good.

Nah the only reason The Beatles aren't part of modern pop culture is they're extremely anal about licensing their music to movies and games. So a lot of zooms just aren't exposed to their songs. But if you actually sit down and listen, they're the best, no competition. Their success rate is like 90%, almost every song is great. Well in later albums
MJ has some great hits but also a lot of stinkers. Even Queen has a higher hit ratio

You might have a point regarding the lack of exposure though since music can sometimes be a case of hearing it enough times to like it.

Silence would be preferable to sitting through the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises. Seriously, each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the series’s only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.

Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody? Just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but it’s certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

>a-at least the books were good though

"No!" The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."

I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King.

There's different ways you can measure success. There are drawbacks to them:

1) If we go off of just plain sales or prevalence in popular culture then that allows something abominable like despacito I hate Reggaeton so fucking much. Afro-Caribbean is good, Reggae is good, Reggaeton is HIV AIDs to suddenly be good. That is what I was arguing earlier, and it has problems. But:
3) If we go off of a sense of 'scientific goodness' with their experimentation and innovation then it risks becoming the incestuousness of pseud critic culture. Where all it is is a self-perpetuating shibboleth and declaration of faith: X is great because X was always great, throw in some generic platitudes that don't actually persuade anyone, they're just used to soothe the egos of members of the closed circle. This happens a lot with GOAT options - Godfather, Tupac, Michael Jackson, Beatles. People can't articulate why they're the best, they just say they are.

When I hear the Beatles, listening again to Lucy in the sky with Diamonds, it's just so terribly dated to a very specific time and place. There's room for that kind of music - I love 60s music that reeks of the 60s. But that inherently lacks a timelessness to it that I think Jackson does have. Maybe there's an element of genre preference to it because when I heard Lucy in the sky with diamonds the closest modern analogs to me were indie stomp clap hey kind of music which you can tell my dismal opinion of. I'm sure someone could think of modern analogs to Jackson and deride it as nigshit or whatever.

I just put a big value on timelessness and universality. Same reason why I'd favor Frankenstein to James Braapposting Joyce.

Ok, let's see:
a bunch of crap and Indian Jones, Jurassic Park, and Back to the Future. I like Roger Rabbit but it's hardly of note.
Indiana Jones is just ok, was never really that big. Harrison Ford is 90% of the reason anybody cared about that movie series and it gets really gay after the first.
Jurassic Park, the only true great movie in the list. But I wouldn't put it on a top 10 scifi/fantasy list. But it certainly is popular so it belongs in this thread.
Back to the Future. An interesting low-fantasy-scify movie. Mildly big but not really an epic.

So yeah I dunno, not impressed. Also why didn't you mention E.T.? That was proably one of his most popular movies, at least back in the day.
