When he gave his kids the stones he was already possessed. They were passed around to temple knights who would presumably keep the stones secret, they were also sent into combat and if a fight goes really badly that is one of the triggers to summon a zodiac demon.

Other than the kids being convenient potential hosts he doesn't care about them and states as much.

>>723274228
Honestly? The change in art style and the story being less political and more about kids on adventure is the worst part about them. The actual gameplay is a solid 10/10 that is easily as good as Tactics itself.
>More classes, segmented by race so you have more controlled combinations but leads to less generic 'best' options
>Equipment is varied and more interesting than tactics
>Less focus on unique classes, generics are much better
>Class skills and mechanics are tons of fun
>Boat load of content and battles
If you can get used to the law system basically adding extra challenge onto your gameplay then the games have a shocking amount of depth and are fun to play. I'd put them on the same tier as Tactics, story aside.
>>
How am I supposed to enjoy all the unique characters with special classes AND the generic jobs with only 4 selectable character slots? It’s brutal. I get the special summoner siblings and have to ignore them. I’m gonna get a robot I have to ignore. At some point I’m gonna have to drop Agrias for the sword saint because I hear he’s busted and cool. I miss FE where you could bring like, a dozen anime girls with you to every mission.

What everyone else said, but just know that speed is even more busted in FFTA/2 and their way of presenting challenge is essentially giving free turns to enemies. That said, those are really optional fights. It's a shame, none of the FFT titles manage to be the total best parts of each. When I was a wee lad I loved FFT the most, but old man me thinks Tactics Ogre is straight up the better game... and even it is horribly flawed. Yet they remain the peak of the genre.

The advanced titles are not sequels and you should play them because they are fun. If you play them to get a continuation of FFT you will be what most of the people who wrote the games off a launch were like. Squenix is so retarded I don't get how they thought they could slap a new world on an old title without the fans revolting over it.

>>723288005
The difference is most of those games don't give you a sense of massive tonal whiplash with the portrayal of the setting and story. We went from a gritty medieval drama to fucking Chronicles of Narnia.

FFTA fans kind of remind me of Chrono Cross fans in that they tend to be people who played those games first and went back to their better-known predecessors long after the fact.

They're still set in Ivalice. So is Final Fantasy 12. The major difference is tone. But that's to be expected when you're on GBA, not PlayStation anymore. I played FFT first and got FFTA at launch, with no expectation at all that it would be a direct sequel to the original. Just that it would be another Tactics game.
The Advance titles are still fun, like you said.
>>
>>723288553
The advance titles are a fantasy version of Ivalice tho too, they aren't the real Ivalice. They are a kids version of it. Kind of the whole premise of the plot.

By the time Tactics Advance came out FF had been medieval, it had been sci-fi, it had been steampunk, you had gone to space more than once, and they even released a fucking MMO in the main numbered series. The protagonists all have different personalities, the stories are different, the settings are different, and battle mechanics are different. Square rarely ever makes [Game] 2. In the case of Tactics Advance and Chrono Cross it's not even called [Game] 2.
>they tend to be people who played those games first
Irrelevant. I prefer the originals, but the discussion is about whether it's reasonable for Advance and Cross to have different settings and the answer is obviously yes, since that's what Square does every single time.

This is the ideal powerleveling strat, you may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.
>>
>>723292075
But why? The stats are redundant. I just powerlevel Ramza only, and that's mostly because I like to see big number.
>>
>>723292383
It is redundant, I just wanted to see bigger numbers and level 99 on everyone, that's all.
Now deleveling people to 1 and leveling them back to 99 multiple times on specific jobs to fine tune their stat growths, that's where i draw the line. If i ever cared that much i would look for a way to mod perfect stats into the game instead because that's just way too much effort.
>>
>>723292560
I'll admit I deleveled Ramza a few times when he reached level 20 since that's the "efficient" way to do it. Or so I'm told. But now I'll probably just make him rotate between mime and ninja for speed and stats. His hp is already fucking ridiculous.

Except for the completely new dialogue, Ivalice Chronicles is 99% the WotL script. You have to bring your special units into certain battles if you want to see the new interactions. I personally find they range from kinda cute to outright bad. I wouldn't base my purchase of it entirely on wanting to see the new dialogue, because it doesn't even go as far as adding new scenes, like WotL did.

I don't understand the plot of this game on a literal level. And honestly, I think some of that is from Matsuno retconning things. Like, in the original, I remember the Lucavi referring to each other by their Lucavi names. But in this new version, they always refer to each other by human names. And they keep talking about their human desires and human personality, right up until death. That wasn't in the original. I think I read an interview, where Matsuno felt bad about criticism he got from players, saying they didn't like how the game shifted focus from human enemies to demons. But the end result is nonsense.
>Are demons real and distinct, or are they just manifestations of the darkness in human hearts?
>Who created the Zodiac stones? I seem to recall them saying the evil seraph created them, but the game also implies they weren't created by or for evil. So which is it?
>What do the Lucavi want? Overall, they want to restore their boss, but individually they retain their human desires? Like Weigraf still wants revolution? That's dumb.
>>
The director of the remaster is a purist faggot who intentionally removed content because "its not muh ps1"

>>
New to FFT here, is there any reason to use custom party members over named ones like Orlandeau, Agrias etc?
>>
So the Lucavi no longer possess people?
In the original and WOTL, the person completely changes when the Lucavi take over. Weigraf is the best example, he goes from rebel to "I wanna kill as many people as I can" when gives in.
But in the remaster he keeps his personality and goals, and just turns darker.

I think the core idea of the Lucavi is intact, but there's definitely more of a focus on the people underneath and what they've allowed their desire for power to twist them into. It's not as if Wiegraf-as-Velius still wants the People's Revolution that Corpse Brigade Wiegraf wanted. He's talking about the kind the takes the form of slaughtering everyone and turning the world upside down. But you need that original lust for power there in order for the Lucavi to have something to grab onto.
>>
>>723297246
in the case of Wiegraf it would make sense for him to see his revolution through via the church, perhaps naively thinking the church wouldn't just replace the noble class he seeks to topple. but personally I do think it better for the lucavi to be twisted forms of the person they inhabit rather than just going

Weigraf Velius' new motivation is basically Louis from Metaphor's goal. He wants to turn everyone into a Lucavi and those who can handle the power get to rise to the top.
So he's still possessed, but now it's done in a way where he thinks he's still following his human goal.

I liked the tragedy of the characters embracing power to fulfil their goals, only for the Lucavi to corrupt them so much that they no longer gave a shit

Delita mode would be cool problem is that it seems like the bulk of his story is background scheming and spying while playing the role of a commander in the war, so justifying fights for every story event would be tough unless they just make all of his encounters random skirmishes of little importance

My problem with the Lucavi in the original is they were genuinely scary and evil, but it also made the church seem at most generous comically incompetent and really deserving of being dismantled. You cannot come back from accidentally worshiping Satan Bloodharvest and his band of horrors. At least now I can give them like 5% leeway because the Lucavi are more ethereal and corrupting instead of totally usurping the person.
>>
>>723297582
>I don't want another dime-a-dozen "MAN IS THE REAL MONSTER" crap.
It wasn't dime a dozen when it came out. And ss "evil monsters trying to unseal their evil JRPG god" any less dime a dozen?
It's just weird that it starts out heavy on the political angle and then veers into "lol demons"
They could have intertwined the two things a bit better, explored the Lucavi's motivations more. I really like the Lucavi stuff I just don't like the way it was integrated

the answer is always more damage. however if you don't know how to make units that do gorillions of damage, self sustaining stuff like Auto-potion the other anon mentioned is pretty good. Summoner and Golem also helps in staying alive, but only against SOME physical threats, golem for whatever reason doesn't seem to block some monster attacks.
>>

You now realize that the Wiegraf fight intentionally gimps auto-potion by giving you a high potion as a reward for the previous battle. So when Ramza inevitably gets hit first in the subsequent battle, he only heals for 70 with auto-potion.

>I didn't like that the political story got sidelined for the Lucavi stuff
I go back and forth on this. FFT has to be a video game, and since it has "Final Fantasy" in the title, they couldn't really avoid killing God on a ruined airship by the end. I don't think it crowds out the political intrigue, though, and you can see Delita using Ramza to solve his "Lucavi disposal problem," and then Ramza getting neatly pigeonholed as a heretic, as reinforcing the game's major theme about true heroism being a largely thankless task. Delita's arc is pretty much finished anyway by the time Folmarv's plot takes focus.
Sure, the Lucavi stick out like sore thumbs in an otherwise grounded War of the Roses type of plot (in a magical, post-airship society, granted), but I think if the Wiegraf fight ended without a Velius or something similar in phase 2, it would have felt anticlimactic. Sort of like the duel at the end of a Western. Is it realistic? No, they needed to punctuate those moments with something genre-appropriate.
Plus, the game needs its instances of "here's what various flavors of evil people who want power do when they actually get it." I think that's something that people who only play the first chapter will miss about Wiegraf's character arc.

Alma curses not being born a male, as if that stops her from being a strong combatant but it could be the case of the Beoulves focusing solely on the men as knights, with the Oaks following the same structure. But then you have Milleuda, Meliadoul, Zalmor's first fight fields female monks and so on. I think it's them wanting the traditional medieval setting with specific gender roles, but also wanting men and women units for the sake of mechanical and visual variety in the gameplay.

To force you to use the unique characters to get the dialogues so that you can feel like oh my god so much has been added and the characters are now totally relevant (even though they never show up in any actual cutscene)
That is the Squeenix way. Half ass it.

no way. if anything, I assumed FFT Cloud was literally FF7 Cloud teleported through the magic of fanservice.
or this. >>723301048
>Besrudio: A device for teleportation across dimensions - across the very fabric of time and space.
>Ramza: Cloud...There are people waiting for you back in your world, am I not right? With the power of another Stone, we may be able to return you there.
the "copy" dialogue is a retcon.
>>
>>723301252
I guess it's a fair enough retcon when it makes little overall sense to any form of continuity. It's the whole thing of "did you teleport, or did the device just copypaste you and killed the other one?" sorta situation.
>>
>>723299934
That's cool. There are so many unique things in this game. I wonder if it would be too niche to have a job whose abilities depended on the weather. There's already one whose abilities depend on the terrain.
>>
>>723301753
I am sure that was the initial idea for Astrologist before they have it to Orran and decided to go the
>fuck it, it just kills everyone
way.
>>
>>723301839
I don’t know if it’s intentional maybe the idea was to have Orran parallel Orlandu
>Orlandu is OP because he can use a wide variety of powerful skills
>Orran is OP because he has a single skill that’s ludicrously strong
>>
Orran is supposed to be an aura farmer with a broken skill? His skill literally didn't affect a single enemy in my run and I had to bumrush to save him.
>>
>>723302216
Whichever may be, really makes you wonder how did they manage to burn him alive when he can literally slow reality around him and shatter people's brains.
Guess they got to him at a bad day for his horoscope or whatever.
>>
>>723298748
Wait, Agrias is still in Ramza's group?
>>
>>723301068
>I don't take it as some kind of complaint about gender roles so much as simple frustration at feeling helpless
Which is completely retarded if you think about that for more than a nanosecond, since if gender roles weren't relevant to the situation, why would she bring up being a man as something that would enable her to enact change?
>>
>>723302523
I always figured that had to be the case, otherwise she'd try to go back to Ovelia and find she was gutted like a fish by Delita.
>>
>>723302269
>>723302325
reminder that orran wrote the story. he purposefully made he and his father OP
>>
>>723301252
They should've added the plot ghosts from Remake in the final battle just to carry Cloud away any time you try to use him.
>>
>>723301190
If the bastards would've kept the WOTL content in then it would've felt more natural since the PSP port actually added in new cutscenes.
>>

Ovelia survived Delita's stabbing. Matsuno confirmed this on twitter.
>>
>>723302523
Damn, Ramza actually took care of his party long after the war. I always figured they all split up after the war.
>>
>>723302869
>Matsuno confirmed this on twitter.
This guy seems to love changing his mind and retconning shit, so I don't consider his "confirmations" to be of much value
I also remember in the announcement he talked about Ramza tirelessly fighting for the underprivileged or some shit, which is patently false
>>
>>723302903
Didn't it parallel the real story of the zodiac braves? Germonique and his friends defeated altima then assumed different identities after the battle.

ramza and his friends "die" and start a new life while hiding the stones
>>
>>723303232
That's why I figured they split up. Each get new identities and live their own lives. I just never thought their new lives would be together. Som Ramza and Mustadio are still bros. Makes me smile.
>>
>>723294445
In my first run in the PSX, I entered that map as the team's support time mage. Died in one turn.
Had to check for twenty minutes what I could use to survive that duel.
>>
>>723303480
>In my first run in the PSX, I entered that map as the team's support time mage. Died in one turn.
in mine ramza was a LV60 monk with 100 brave who punched him to death in an instant
the Finath River fight with the chocobos was a nightmare tho, had to reset until there there was only one LV60 red chocobo to murder me
>>
>>723303013
>fighting for the underprivleged
It might have been "fighting for justice" actually, but that's still not really accurate
Ramza is a good dude who rejects hypocrisy and stands for what's right, but most of the story didn't really involve fighting for justice
>>
>>723303013
Yeah I don't care for tiny details added retrospectively even if they are by the author. A completed work is a completed work.
>>
I do not know how I beat this game as a kid. I damn sure didn't understand most of the mechanics. I guess I just grinded? I know in Chapter 4 I just had Cid kill everything. Wish I still had my old memory card and game so I could see my save file.
>>
>>723303836
It's honestly not that hard. You can roll Knights and Mages and Item and be fine.
>>
>>723303013
I doubt he'd do for long even if he wanted to. The game even makes a point about revolutionaries and others who seek to fight for the underprivileged not being completely in the right and causing problems of their own. Ramza fought against literal biblical evils while he was unable to do much against human evils like corruption.
>>
>>723303836
The game is easier than what people like to lead on. Only random battles scale with you so if you were as autistic as me with grinding and learning new skills, you became overpowered for the story battles.

t. had to restart the whole game on Wiegraf and was so worried it would happen again, I would play it too safe and grinded random battles. I never even realized people would have problem with the rooftop fight until I got internet
>>
>>723303013
>I also remember in the announcement he talked about Ramza tirelessly fighting for the underprivileged or some shit, which is patently false
Yeah, Ramza just didn't want Ovelia to get murdered, and by trying to save her he stumbled into a demonic plot.
>>
>>723304079
The rooftop fight is just basically RNG with any properly leveled party. Sometimes you just get fucked over without getting a chance to move. Other times Rafa survives and you kill Elmdore in like 2 attacks
>>
>>723275713
supposedly theres a way to manipulate the attack so it hits the same spot all the time. it requires you and the enemy to position so the empty tiles of the attack are not legal targets whether by it being too high/low altitude or it not being a walkable space or something. that way, the attack can only random into the only legal tile for each hit. or you can just get a monk with dual wield and save yourself that fucking headache.
>>
>>723299463
There's a lot of difference between letting your women fight because you just spent fifty years at war and you're suddenly in the middle of another, and having an egalitarian view of the matter.
>>
>>723302269
It's supposed to be thematic. Astronomy is literally magical in Ivalice, but he's not a soldier. He has no fighting skill, and will die to a man with a gun if he isn't stopped.
>>
>>723276198

To be fair, everyone dies to a gun in this game. Even mechanically, just a dude sent to chat you down with a gun sitting on a porch snipes the shit out of devils and demons and trained knights with ease.
Realistic, mind you.
>>
>>723302747
>and then and then... and then my dad showed up!! and he was the coolest and the bestest and had this amazing sword that was better than everyone's and he beat YOUR DAD in a single hit and everyone was like WOW CID IS SO COOL WE CAN'T JUST NOT HAVE HIM IN OUR PARTY
>anyway then there was this time where I got ambushed and Ramza tried to help me but I was like "lol fag" and then I blasted erryone with my mad haxx0r skeelz
>then I didn't join them though, 2cool4them, so Delita assigned me my own full time blonde bimbo GF which I banged EVERY DAY
>>
>>723303013
I don't know, it doesn't seem like it's beyond measure that Delita would not randomly kill his trophy wife leading to yet another scandal that would drive his kingdom upside-down.
He's a soldier, and he actually """loved""" her. He can take a stab and knock out an untrained weak girl easily, why would he go through so much only for a last minute moment of
>aie you stabbed me die bitch!!
Feels as out of character to assume he would do that, as the whole they-were-ghosts-all-along thing people came up with with Orran and Balmafula by the end.
>>
I think, Delita sucks
>>
>>723305534
Doesn't matter either way, we already know that whatever change he seems to bring to Ivalician society doesn't stick and by the time of Vagrant Story both the church and the nobles are back to being absolute garbage so lel and so forth.

So if I want to see the maximum amount of new dialogue I should use Agrias, Mustadio, Cid, and Meliadoul or however the fuck you spell her name? The two brownies don't get new dialogue?
>>
>>723305319
Your reasoning isn't wrong, but Matsuno is weird and presents things a certain way in the game only to walk them back later. For instance, I think it's heavily suggested that Balmafula is mute in the final cutscene. Plus with the various other changes that have been made, I just don't trust his word on the matter. He seems like one of those creators who changes his mind a lot.
I'm not saying Ovelia definitely died though, I just think it's much better left ambiguous.
>>
>>723305319
Honestly in world where Curaja exists wounds like those shouldn't even be considered wounds.
>>
>>723305875
I understand that overclarification of things is usually not great. But, I do think it's one of those things that just "seemed" that way but was never intended to be. I never took it that way, primarily because the sound that plays when Delita knocks her out is similar to when other units get knocked out without dying. He'd have to purposely shank the bitch in the heart for her to instantly die otherwise, which would again feel rather off-character.
I never gave much thought to Balmafula beyond her just being sort of there, perhaps because she felt like cut content given her unique model yet no relevance whatsoever. I can however see in that instance her having had her tongue cut by all means, mind you. Would have been a neat detail. But she always just felt... unfinished.

I played FFTA and 2 first and went back to FFT and the story is better, especially 2 is really bad in comparison while A1 is still kinda good though more lighthearted. The gameplay in comparison is absolute dogshit though. Even with all the quality of life shit from the remaster, the game just plays like shit in comparison. The game FFT was based on is still the best.
>>

>WHY DIDN'T THEY USE A PHOENIX DOWN ON TETRA/TETA/TIETRA
No, but yeah, I agree. Specially since in this particular FF, they do use magic as part of the storyline.

one thing that wasn't fully explained why worker 8 uses a specific auracite to move
>>
Mustadio seems kinda shit in fights (I'm autistic and keeping him as Machinist instead of going with some generic broken setup)

That part kind of beggared belief yeah, i just assumed the church smoothed things over for him behind the scenes since he was gonna be their plant in goltanna's side. Like the prisoner with their testimony was probably a church actor, just like later on you see another church lackey offering himself as a body double for orlandeau's corpse.

There's definitely a lot of stuff you're supposed to just infer i guess. Like we never actually find out if he really was a member of the blackram knights, or that was all just a cover story and he picked a company that was conveniently all dead so no one could contradict his account.

i set the difficulty to squire so i can draw out every story battle stress free and see all the dialogue :)

Rapha and Malak can be good if you pay attention to elevation and monster elemental weaknesses it’s really just a matter of the game already being broken in half by the time you get them so “potentially doing more damage” doesn’t really matter

FFTA happens in the super far future of FFT. Mewt overlays a fake Ivalice on the real one.
FFTA2 takes place at least 10 years after FFT since Mewt is heavily implied to be the librarian. Luso is then time displaced to a few years after FFXII and the game ends with him going back home.
