The only hard part of 1cc'ing daioujou is not getting distracted by leinyan's thick thighs in the loading screen. I also suspect much of the praise of garegga is purely due to its aesthetics, less than 0.1% of the people playing it are playing it for score and I would not want to play another game that is a carbon copy of its mechanics. Really DOJ is the only near perfect game here, but it's unique enough that it doesn't invalidate or devalue any other games, except for those within its own series. I don't see any arguments as to why ketsui is better than Mars matrix or Futari.Also there are zero good shmups made before 1994.

Reminder if you're playing Battle Garegga on PC use the bgareggaz rom on the FinalBurn Neo in RetroArch (it's in the full 1.0.0.3 set, it's a hack that removes the boot-up time and enables the extra characters without the Konami code) and set the runahead to 3 frames. Battle Garegga on arcade hardware has 4-5 frames of internal lag, so 3 frames of runahead will make it play wonderfully. Also, if you want to see your rank percentage, enable the Stage Edit dipswitch.

It has a smaller hitbox and more bullets than usual, but the bullets are fast like the older shmups. The difficulty is decently high if you've never played these games before, but pretty low for a shmup and you should be able to clear the Special Version in one credit after a reasonable amount of hours, I think I took like 4 hours. Special Version is easier than the original game, it has slightly slower bullets and more "bullet hell"-like patterns, and it has a one-hit shield that replenishes whenever you fill up the EXP bar at the bottom (which also upgrades your weapon.)
