>>723455154>XIVThat's a VN with a subscription, not an MMO. You're late by 7 years anyways, and the free trial is still very limited even if they let you read two expansions.
>>723455154i like warframe, does that count?
>>723455215true... I just wanted to make a cool avatar and walk around>>723455245why?>>723455262yeah im pretty late to the party, i was just gonna try the free trial and drop it

>what's the appeal of MMOs
>>723456048isn't that all games thoughbeit
>>723456163to varying degrees, yes. But at least with GOOD games, you have new experiences and see new things. Games designed to make you do the same thing over and over and over for 400 hours are wasting your life. >"BUT ALL GAMES ARE A WASTE OF LIFE!" they're even more of a waste of life.
>>723455154Nostalgia
I feel like the only people playing MMOs in current year are millenials induced by sunk cost fallacy. They can't move on from what brought them join +20 years ago. But it's time to move on. There are no good MMOs left.
>>723456418I think multiplayer games just expanded. The main appeal of MMOs was constantly playing and interacting with other people. Sure you could chat with people in halo, but it was always a high intensity and hostile atmosphere. Nowadays you have coop social games where you are literally just climbing a mountain, or playing with blocks, or literally just avatars standing around and chatting. No monthly subscriptions or sweaty clan politics required
>>723456418I agree, the last good one for me at least was OSRS but they killed PVP and the wilderness which provided the most MMO-like experience in all of the game. Now its all gay singleplayer ironmen cuck shit. Imagine designing raids that can be solo'd lmao. MMOs are a joke nowadays.
>>723455154You're getting responses from people who don't actually play MMOs. The true goal is getting extremely rare stuff and standing in cities to inspire the next generation of noobs and creating a name for yourself as "the guy with the cool shit". Everyone else is a tourist.
>>723456980This is true, even being a noob and seeing those guys was cool. It was motivating to be on a shitty class but you see some high level guy of the same class just killing it anyway because he stuck with it, wearing sick as fuck looking gear and has rare items on one of the worst classes in the game. Something about the low lv/high lv dynamic was pretty awesome back then. It's not like these games are any less grindy anyway, so the devs of these games pretty much just idk, removed the leveling journey for no reason?
>>723456980>join MMO>get to the city>try to talk to people but all they do is stand there>"Hi, I'm new here">silence>turn off gameIs it worth it? To just stand there in silence showing off how cool you are to people who don't even know the value of the items you wield?
>>723457306He's probably talking about the 2000s not today or even the last 8 or so years. Cheevos and rares in MMOs haven't been cool or impressive in forever. No one really cares anymore when they see a guy with early gladiator cosmetics in world of warcraft even though they're unobtainable.
