There could probably be a market for the sort of edutainment games that Maxis used to make, but they're certainly not going to be that profitable. It would take a lot of passion and tempered expectations.

Imagine making a spore clone now, in this political climate? Some poor dev would spend 10 years working on it alone with a small ragtag team of passionate PHD scholars and the moment they finally announce it and put a trailer out they'll be crushed by Saudi Arabia's endless vault to throw litigiously around The idea of even making an evolution from cellular to space game with diverting stages would get you leveled to nothing. They bought the copyright to videogame evolution and now will use it to silence
