Why do kids these days dislike video games with cars or racing?

>modern cars are fucking shit
I honestly can't blame them.

where's the fun in holding the W button.

sorry bud by liking cars is part of the toxic masculity stuff and that makes you a nazi or something
>>
All of them are open world now for some stupid fucking reason

Back then you could buy your own first car by just working a lot as a teenager, nowadays I think it's quite impossible to simply be into cars when you can't even own the real thing as an adult.

wow
Meanwhile the best selling PS1 game was Gran Turismo 1, and the 2nd and 3rd best selling PS2 games were Gran Turismo 3 and 4.

that's blasphemy, unc. it's the same W gameplay on the controllor.

>all modern cars are boring, slow, plastic, jellybean-shaped mom-mobile crossovers that all look and drive the exact same
>zoomers are stupid and scared of everything so they can't deal with being behind the wheel of a car so don't even bother getting a license
>even used cars are way outside of most zoomers' price range unless they get an absolute shitbox that will cost more to keep running than the car would ever be worth.
That's why

Modern cars suck
>>
>>723600863
Its popularity was astroturfed in the 2000s by American media and facilitated by an abundance of cheap, easily modified imports. The economy sucks now so young men can't afford it anymore and politicians tried to make themselves look like tough guys by making examples of drivers of modified cars even if they weren't driving recklessly.
>>
Grew up, wrong place, wrong time.
>>
Emission requirements have turned every car into either your typical mid 2000s soccermom crossover or into a huge ass truck. They looked so different from each other 20 years ago.
>>
>>723600863
Racing on its own is very boring. Only fun when there are cool crashes.

It’s horrific.

Fun as hell with a rig though (outside of drifting, fairly certain this game played too often on a wheel will make you a worse driver)

Not at all with enough practice. The hardest thing is understanding how to balance gas and clutch usage without stalling, also downshifting. From there it's smooth sailing.
>>
>>723607156
If you have a driver's license, you should already know how to drive a manual. Or do Americans not do that?
>>
>>723607287
if you generally understand why you're pushing in the clutch what it actually does, how bite points work, and how it interacts with the transmission and shifting, you'll catch on quick. It's just about building muscle memory at that point.
You'll DEFINITELY stall the first dozen times you drive, but everyone does, and it eventually becomes natural.

Probably horrible, but the used car market has definitely priced most people out of buying their teenager a car. When I turned 18, my dad bought me a 6 year old Ford for around $4000-$5000, and it lasted me 12 years before finally crapping out. Nowadays for a 6-7 year old used car, you're looking ar $12,000 minimum, and I doubt anything manufactured these days last nearly as long as my old Taurus did.

>>723608783
It's neo 80's/early 90's where there are alot of cool cars that are price locked for the average person who can buy at the time. In 5-10 years there will be another boom period for car culture as the 2000's cars become cheap

this

normalfags stay out of racing games simply because they suck at them.
driving well and knowing how to tweak and tune a car's setup takes a certain autistic dedication, and being a consistent and fast driver takes additional autism on top of that. the average "gaymer" has no patience for slow burn, completely tactical gameplay where the only reason you lost is because you simply weren't good enough.
>>
>>723612896
nobody gives 2 shits about those snobs
>>723613169

>>723612896
f1 games are astroturfed to hell because the FIA is owned by the saudis, nobody actually plays that shovelware with any seriousness. note how nascar games are mostly unpopular except for the ancient Papyrus sims that form the basis of iRacing's physics engine.

if you are actually into open wheel racing you are playing some rfactor variant, iracing, or assetto corsa, not yearly release slop.

and i will remind you again to get good, using rubber banding as an excuse is pussy shit, especially when no simulator does it and only a few purely quartermunching arcade games do.
in my experience playing thousands of racing games of every genre, the ai isn't actually rubberbanding most of the time, you are just slow in a section and don't immediately understand why.

>Because most kids these days are too scared to learn how to drive
I don't see how this can be possible. At least in the US, you can't do anything at all without driving unless you live in NYC. Zoomers can't all live there.
Driving in real life kind of sucks though I admit, it's the killer combination of being very easy and boring while having very bad consequences if you slip up. What fun you can get out of it is ruined by too much traffic if you live in a populated area.
>>
>>723613628
alright verstappen sorry I didn't realise your credentials on the matter, I'm obviously talking about comically implausible slingshots out of nowhere but go ahead and keep telling me how good you are.
>>
>>723612845
It needs to be an experience they want first.
>>
>>723613314
>it would be way more approachable if there were in game tutorials for making your own setups
there is a practice mode in nearly every game where you can figure out what it all means, if you need additional tutorials you can just look up what things do on an irl car, the games can't hold your hand with this because it's mostly down to personal preference. a setup won't make your car actually go faster by itself usually, it's used for making the car comply to the way you personally drive, so a tutorial will do no good. you have to know what you want out of it first, which may be different things for different people.
>>
>>723613873
>I'm obviously talking about comically implausible slingshots out of nowhere
i've literally never played a game where this was unmitigable in some way, even when there is actual unashamed rubberbanding or blatant ai cheating like in the new TXR or F-Zero GX. aerodynamic slipstreaming and slingshot passes are in fact physical elements of real life racing and it's entirely up to you to make it difficult for the ai or another player to take advantage of this.
>>
>>723613814
all the doomers are just astroturfing browns which is why they always say the same shit in every racing games thread. don't fall for demoralization campaigns. racing games don't have broad appeal because they are more physically and mentally demanding than character action games, that's literally all there is to it.
>>
>>723614137

look man it's like dark souls
nobody ever complains that the games are bullshit difficult, they just overcome it and get gud
if you can't do that or don't want to that's fine but don't blame the stuff that keeps the ai competitive with a real human bean.
>>
>>723614383
>if that were the case GT wouyldnt bother with license tests.
GT's license tests are just filler and teach absolutely nothing about motorsport. if you needed a video game to teach you basic visual trigonometry then you're never gonna make it anyway
>>
>>723614527
Not him but NFSU 1/2 has bullshit rubberbanding. Its not fun to build a perfectly spec car only for this shit to happen.
>>
>>723614383
>no it's not. they dont even cover basic shit like natural frequency
this isn't important because you are a driver and not an engineer, the car is already built and the appropriate range spring rates are selected for you.
now if you are making a car mod for an existing video game this is indeed important but that's beyond the scope of most gamers
>>
>>723614639
that is a bug caused by running the game on systems much faster and at much higher framerates than it was ever intended to be played on, this rarely occurred in actual gameplay back when it was new, and no other game does this as bad.
the solution of course is to stop playing EA shovelware slop but you don't want to hear that i'm sure

the license tests are filler. without them you can beat every race in gt2 in a couple hours with the starter and prize cars. it's really not a difficult game at all.

Cars are dead in 2025, cool cars will be an ancient relic in our lifetime. It's crossover hell from here until we die.
Dodge doesn't even make the Challenger anymore(EV fag shit doesn't count), Chevy doesn't make the Camaro anymore, and Toyota hasn't out anything cool besides the new Supra thats half German.
It's over. Gen alpha will have self driving cuckpods, and nobody will be allowed to actually drive anymore eventually.
>>
>>723600863
Because devs think that someone constatly talking to you while you are driving is fun.
Just shut the fuck up I want to listen to engine.

ngl I recently saw this suv-whatever Lexus and had to look again because I thought it's just some lame Hyundai. it's all so same and boring
>>
>>723620031
what do you think INSPIRES devs to make good racing games? why would anyone give a shit about racing games if no one gives a shit about racing anymore? culture drives media and you are retarded.
>>
>>723620182
I think it's because there's less car culture that the games will thrive
Can't have nice sports car in real life so people turn to games
Isn't that obvious logic?
>>
>>723620175
There's retards that buy Lamborghini crossovers, they look identical to normal traffic slop cars
>>

Sorry chuddie, I want to feel safe when taking Brayden, Aiden, Jaiden, and Bryliee to soccer practice.
Thats just impossible in a traditional station wagon for some reason, we need to make every car a giant fat lifted hatchback so I feel safe.
>>
>>723600863
I can literally just buy a car and drive it. Same with sportsball simulators, I can't understand why so many people need them when you can just go outside and play sportsball.
Video games should be simulations of something that can't be just acquired like that IRL (like for example FPS that doesn't end when you die), because otherwise what's the point?
>>
>>723606987
Sports cars are out of the question for young people but I don't see how beaters are too. Although they are pretty expensive too (my 10 year old car cost 5000€). But you can get around with them and mine has a slightly sporty suspension so it can take corners nicely for a low power hatchback

Do you realize that this shape is a result of solved aerodynamic optimization problems retardo? They all have to traverse the same atmosphere.
At least complain about something meaningful, like every car nowadays coming with a proprietary black box computer inside it that an owner can't fully control.
>>
>>723620416
You can't just buy one and then drive twice the speed limit blasting by other cars.
>>
>>723620416
you cant buy a mclaren and drive it you lying fucking nigger. and you cant go max speed around a race track and wreck it every 4 minutes.
>>

Buy an old car.
My car is 23 years old, daily drive it, no problems. Redlines no problems to this day. Just don't buy a hunk of shit, its that easy.
>>
>>723614701
If you're not tuning your car you haven't actually gotten good at the game. In real life the engineers do it but we don't have the privilege. Only by being consistent with your driving can you learn to set up a car effectively so you can perceive the tiny handling variations. In arcade games it's not important but the better sim you have the more important it becomes. It won't make you into a good driver but a good driver can become great from it.
>>
>>723620509
It isn't. It's about safety rules and the price of petrol. Pop up headlights for example were banned for the safety of pedestrians and I bet some manufacturers would still use them because they look cool as hell, even though they provide some drag.
>>
>>723601862
When you ask a modern child to "draw a car" they'll probably draw one of these. Sad

I regret selling my 1992 Miata everyday, the manual transmission was so smooth and satisfying...
Back then I was an early 20s miserable alcoholic stoner loser, but I got pure genuine joy driving that little fucker hard as hell ripping through the gears on my to various shitty entry level jobs I'd hop between every 4-6 months.
Cars have zero soul anymore, they're consumer products like a microwave.

Even in forza you can improve with a good setup, whether it's horizon or motorsport. But I hate the handling in horizon, rwd lose traction for no reason at all so the meta is awd swapping which isn't fun. GT7 unfortunately also has GT3 autism in the multiplayer but I like the handling more. Unfortunately they won't let you set up because otherwise the babbies would complain
>>
>>723620494
some real shit. got a used s-10 with a manual tranny and while its no racing platform, its just... a better experience. soccer moms and zoomers will never get it
>>

pretty much this, I drive the most common poorfag car in my country (skoda octavia diesel) and I still enjoy it. it can do normal family driving and it can be pushed to surprising speeds

What old cars? Boomers scrapped them all because of that stupid cars for clunkers scheme that got pushed everywhere. Unless you live in the middle of nowhere most cars are going to be at best post 2007

If I was you I'd try to convince him on a single cab manual pickup truck, you could use it to do side jobs for cash, and it's much less faggy and more fun than a crossover.
Just my 2 cents

What the fuck? I learned to drive from a truck with a manual transmission and just reading the state's licensing study guide. Oh, and being told the best way to get into a parallel parking spot is to reverse into the spot.
>>
>>723622698
I failed 4 times.
My parents just didn't really teach me any road rules and I never cared enough to pay attention before I started driving myself.
I drive just fine now though.
>>
>>723623498
I never really got to learn to drive properly because our family car would always be on brink of breaking down and because we live in a fucking forest. The only real way for me to practice would be going to city once or twice a week.
I fucking hate my parents for dragging me out to bumfuck nowhere where nothing ever really happens.

>spend $1000 for a wheel and pedals just so you can hold the gas pedal (same exact functionality as holding the trigger on a controller) for 5 minutes until you win
Where's the fun
>>
>>723600863
Because internet glaze too much on nerds youtubers and streamers, and zoomers spend tons of time online and dont touch enough grass.
Being cool is about banging bitches and driving fast cars, not owning a collection of pokemon cards. A child's dream should be becoming a football player or an astronaut, not a fucking youtuber who plays videogames for a living.
Besides this, considering the surge in driving simulators and car games in the last years, i think more and more people are getting into it. Bonus points since the game rotates about driving and it's not an RPG with story and characters, no reason to worry about DEI stuff + very few women get involved.

kids aren't paying for those games. They're likely playing some clone of gta or some janky drifting sim on roblox of the ones who like car games.
Them being priced out of enthusiasts cars irl might contribute to it as well

Most of them don't even have a license, anon. Did you ever wonder why there's this huge trend of people taking their little Tiktok videos orwhatever in their cars? Because it's a status symbol now. Because none of these people have fucking cars and licenses. They think they're unique, rich snowflakes for having an '88 Honda Civic Hatchback and a license. Because, comparatively, in current year, they are.

So of course, they don't get into car games since it's foreign territory to them.
>>
cars aren't fun anymore

Most of them don't shoot guns, kill people, fish or farm either. Just for example.

One of my nephews actually likes cars but he only like gay arab supercars that he obviously sees on his youtube short slop. Always talking about "Bugatti" and he says it in an american accent too.
