whenever I play awakening or fates I end up taking all the fun out of it because I start trying to optimize my unit pairings for gen 2 and to do that you need to have each pairing grind an advanced class to either level 5 or level 15 depending on the skill you want to be inherited and you do that for every single pairing but the deployment limit is still low and theres units that will inevitably get shafted from getting XP or being used but I still want their kids to not be trash so halfway through the game I have to pause the campaign so I can grind everyone on free prepromote enemies for XP and skills and also children inherit base stats from their parents. I think genealogy did it better where gen 2 is the army in the second half of the game, not new recruits added to the original army via time travel or pocket dimension shenanigans
