Surprised it still has players. Dropped that shit years ago when they went past GX. Pass on anything post-GX.

Modern yugioh already gets a bad rep for getting wall combo’d into the wall for 10 minutes, master duel’s atrocious banlist and release schedule, plus the fact the game is bo1 exclusively just incentives the most degenerate non-games ever. Even the fucking pros are sick of it it’s not just a “yugiboomer” take anymore that watching the opponent play with themselves for 10+ minutes with no input from yourself just isn’t fun.

Since Branded the game has been kind of ass. The constant retarded power tripping each new deck gets. If you don't have 10 negates in hand and combo off on the enemy's turn 1 you just don't have a chance. Thank god that floodgates have been all but raped from the game so we can enjoy [floodgates but from the extra deck]. Super fucking fun Konami.
>>
I play Melodious and I feel like it's a good barometer deck to see just how fucked up this game has become. It's a deck that can pretty easily shit out a wall of monsters that are immune to destruction AND targeting, with a boss monster capable of multi-bouncing and a DD Crow on steroids as an endboard, and yet it's almost comedic how many meta strategies and generic outs can just get around that. I'm not saying that's necessarily a bad thing, it is a setup where you just scoop if you didn't draw the out so it's a problem, but there are so many problems worse than this problem that it's almost not even a problem anymore, and that's fucking insane to think about. The powercreep is unreal, and with cards like Ryzeal Cross being able to tell chain ruling to go fuck itself it's getting worse and worse very quickly.

Yugioh should just go full gas. Only a nuclear ban list can slow the game down and that is improbable. So instead just make the game even faster. Just make more archetypes that can play on turn 0, possibly even quick effect linking, overlaying, synchroing, and so on during the opponents turns. So instead of playing into an already established board, both players are establishing a board at the same time. Each chain can be the equivalent of a single turn in Goat/Reaper format. Also if you're going to make a bunch of quick effect cards that summon themselves, can summon extra deck monsters, and so on, have some sort of lock like you can only activate these card effects from the hand if no other cards not from the archetype have been used, and you're locked out from using non-archetype cards once you use your decks hand effects. Now non-engine hand traps can be a detriment to your decks game plan because now you can only use non-engine hand traps rather than performing what your deck wants to do.

Hopefully that would make it so people can actually play their deck rather than a couple hand traps then scoop. Also it might change deck building if hand traps aren't as flexible as they once were, especially if non-engine hand traps go contrary to what your deck wants to accomplish and performing explosive plays. It would also allow both players to get two turns of actually playing their deck instead of one person playing two turns and the going second person only playing one turn.

As of right now, Yugioh is miserable to play. You either have to burn through cards to try to onboard any of your cards, or you watch your board being broken by unrespondable cards. Neither being as fun when most decks can put up enough damage to OTK.
>>
>>723612085
>What went wrong?
Only has 1 format and most people who have ever played Yugioh hate that format because it's too complex and too power crept.

Just limit special summons already, since most the issues come from that.
>>
>>723615507
The game started being designed around this card existing a decade ago. Banning the roach alone isn't enough. You need to ban 500-1000 cards and limit another 500-1000 for the game to be actually enjoyable.
>>
>>723616167
No. All Ash targets need to be limited. The issues of the game come from it being too consistent.

I feel Konami didnt experimented enough with MD: they had a carte blanche to experiment and change broken cards with erratas and try new formats. Some Events are very, very good but others shit the bed so badly you dont want to play them because it ends as regular ranked with slightly tiny difference.
I get the whole "lets players enjoy a format at full power" but most people at least want some hits to keep things fresh, Tear, SE and now Malice long streaks made things boring.

Fiendsmith slop into malice/ryzeal was the death blow.
Things that could have mitigated it beyond obviously pre-hitting decks that would be a gigantic pain in the ass would have been worthwhile events but we didn't get that either. Just frustrating -cups and junk like Under 5*

I wonder if it's just a time difference because year long snake eyes genuinely didn't feel anywhere near as bad as maliss to me.
>>
>>723616167
Not really. Kashtira can make Ariseheart in 4 special summons, Ryzeal can get to a 4 material Detonater in 3. These simple fixes won't work because the core issue of Yugioh is more complex than "Decks summon too many monsters". It's more that every archetype has so much power that first mover advantage is slowly becoming insurmountable barring ridiculous lingering effects like Shifter, Maxx C, Droll, etc. People think that the Charmies were printed to replace Maxx C but I think Konami feels that cards like Maxx C are the only way to give going second players a chance, so they made a way to give every deck (theoretically) 12 more copies of Maxx C to run. And in some ways they're right. It's not a well-designed card but it negates first-mover advantage if it resolves.

But first mover advantage also gets STRONGER if you apply some kind of lingering floodgate effect on top of it. If both players only get 5 special summons a turn, it just prevents stuff like going for a Zeus play before trying to set up in MP2. Good luck playing through a 4-mat Detonator backed up by Cross when they know exactly how many monsters you can summon.
>>
>>723614221
My idea is to change the game so that a turn is "shared" between players. The second player gets to act as if it were their own Main Phase 1 after the first player performs a summon or starts a new chain. Resolve all effects and any trigger effects as usual, then let the second player play.
For example, after your opponent reveals Habakiri and tributes Saji to add Prayers, you then get to play during that Main Phase 1 (assuming you didn't Droll them, because you started a chain which will shift back the turn to your opponent). You can normal summon, activate a spell, special summon, etc. Setting a spell/trap is free since it does not start a chain, and although your opponent still can activate quick effects when you set a card as usual, you still "have" the turn and are free to do your plays.
To speed up the game beyond the first turn, players will also draw to 5 during draw phase like Rush.

It’s more long turns Blue Eyes meta was fine. Before that with Tenpai people used to play the worst possible turn 1 decks like White Forest going for Beatrice to send Anti-Spell. Maliss turns take way too long. Mitsurugi doubles the combo length of most decks since it has no restrictions. If you don’t open a lingering floodgate going second you lose the duel.

Rather than experimentation I wish they had just fleshed out the game. They have the ability to create alternate formats, and they already recognize stuff like Time Wizard in real life events WITH prize support. Why not just make some of the Time Travel events permanent, and let people do dailies in them like ranked? Or at least make custom duel rooms with festival rules. It feels like Konami released Master Duel and then immediately put it on the back burner despite huge success. And what gets me is that they clearly want players to spend more UR dust with all the UR taxes on new cards, and getting players to actually build new decks for other formats is an extremely easy way to do that. I'm not gonna craft Pot of Greed/Graceful Charity or w/e for a 3-day trial but I would if there was a GOAT format mode. The hard part of actually making the alternate modes has already been done, so why not capitalize on it?

I mean shit, people say that the game is only catering to whales but what is there to even whale on? Duel Links has like 20 different effects to slap on your favorite cards but we still only have Royals. We get an alt-art or two every 6 months. They added a single collector file and you need 4 URs to fill it. Like fuck if I was in charge of MD and was told to start milking people there's a dozen ways you could do better than Konami.
>>
Purrely Horny Memory
>>
I just don't get why don't they try crazy shit with events and playtest them to see what sticks and what people enjoy. With the tcg of course is super hard but fuck, a digital card game has so many advantages they're really not using.
>>
Maliss not getting nerfed for months really dropped numbers. Otherwise I still do enjoy MD as a game and that you can have fun varied decks and matchups in events.
>>
Turns take way too long
You sit there for 10+ minutes watching someone burn through half their deck just to end on a nearly full generic board that negates everything with a couple spells/traps in the back and somehow they still have plenty of hand traps waiting for you if you manage to play though all that
Hand traps are almost useless now since they'll get played through like nothing happened
Events really only exist to shill whatever new shit is in the shop and the rerun events that promote lower powered decks got worse since they allowed the new support those weaker decks got destabilizing everything
>>
>>723618336
Prolly because they will need to make banlists and update metas for them too and not only the ocg/md, and this will mean busy work not tied to profit of selling new packs.

A simpler variation of this idea would be to apply Summon Breaker's effect permanently, but instead of third summon, the turn ends at the first summon or the first activation of a spell/trap card instead, and this "it becomes the End Phase" effect doesn't start a chain (so you can't respond to it). Remove Main Phase 2 from the game altogether.
The effect also applies to Battle Phase, so if Tenpai makes a synchro monster, the turn immediately ends.

DL having all the cool stuff while MD is just a shitty online TCG, they have actual events that change how you can play the game, like Duelist Kingdom's event that gives an ATK boost and extra cards depending on which environment you're playing, or Grand Prix which let's you have actual riding duels, they even have more customization than MD with the new card foils they added a while ago (see picrel), konami should stop treating MD like just online TCG and do something unique with it like time wizard events or something that attracts people

You can play Mitsurugi in almost anything because they lack a Xenolock and you can bridge into them via King of the Feral Imps, but if you're asking if some unholy pile of Aliens, Ragnaraika, and Snakes is going to be playable because you also added Mitsurugi, then no. Pure Mitsurugi is tiered, and you can mix it with Ogdoadics, but that's about it as far as direct reptile synergy goes. They REALLY don't want to have to ban Snake Rain.

That aside, despite all the bad, I like YGO because of all the good it has too. Cool interactions, synergies, long games sometimes that are back and forth and fun, cooking up new lists… it’s kinda like TF2. There’s just nothing else that comes close to it.

Here's the thing with advanced. You spend most time playing Master Duel actually not playing. You will get literally unplayable non-games where your skill level will objectively not matter (comparing hands i.e they had more negates than your starters/vice versa, or losing coin tosses and watching someone combo for 13 minutes) and the most common advice regarding that is to just "concedeand play the next game".
Not only has the whole playerbase accepted that the game is riddled with non-games (which is an awful thing to admit), but the most optimal way to play is to spam as many games as possible until you get wherever. Literally machinegunning until you luck out.
The game has a steep learning curve, and after you "get it", the only deciding factor between two skilled players is luck based.
Maybe around 10-20% of the time actual yugioh is being played and it's some of the most compelling engaging card game action ever. The rest of the time it's legitimately unplayable sacky highroll bullshit.
It's horribly balanced (it's not balanced at all), the release schedule has been a clown circus, the banlists are laughable in favor of economy not game health, and they've cranked up the whale squeeze lately.
This may honestly be the worst managed card game I've ever played and reminds me of the time where I quit MTG because it was an insane shitshow.
