Is there a point to playing fighting games single player without ever fighting other people?
>>

I mean if you like it. There are some older fighting games I've tried that had a fun little arcade mode that I enjoyed running through, especially if you don't know anything about the game so you get to learn a bunch of weird mechanics and characters on the fly.
>>
>>723695505
Yes. But not modern trash.
>>
I unironically liked SF6's world tour mode because it reminded me of one of those bargain bin PS2 games you played which objectively wasn't good but you kind of enjoyed it anyway

You can play this game online.

Personal enjoyment. Like every other single player game.

If you were a lonely kid in the 90s/00s you’d be pretty damn nostalgic for unlocking characters and watching all the arcade endings
>>

Older fighting games are enjoyable single player and had a decent amount to offer, as fighting games shifted to the modern age the single player features become more and more barebones or when they do something you get some stupid game mode nobody likes, and as games overload themselves on mechanics and combo tools the AI can't keep up and turn into complete jokes.

That looks like DoA2U, so not really. Only the Dreamcast and Naomi versions are playable online.
>>
>>723695505
That can't be safe for the neck.

>older fighting games had a decent amount to offer
>fight the other characters

If anything you're better off not interacting with fighting game players online. When they win, they taunt and call you shit, when they lose they say that you spam, call you shit and ragequit. And of course, high-rank players make fresh accounts and smurf in ranked.
>>
>>723697650
No they don't most will never even message you once.
>>
>>723697668
Yet one of those things always happens at some point when I try to play with randoms.

Xbox has Insignia, so yes it can.

So you're the common denominator then.

Home console fighting game releases normally had pretty meaty campaigns and sidestuff to justify a solo purchase, yeah, I'd say so.
Even real old stuff that's arcade only like Last Blade, I enjoyed beating the arcade mode a few times, gawk at the art.
You don't have to actually be good to beat a solo fighting game story, if you look up 1 easy combo for a character and then throw out raw supers for the inevitable bullshit final boss you'll be fine.

Fighting games are the biggest scams. They have no content but are sold at the same price as games that have 10x more content than fighting games.
>>
Anyone up for Soul Calibur 2 dolphin?
Also down for 3rd Strike, though I haven't played it in a bit

back in the day fighting games used to make single player way more appealing. in some extremer cases they'd have sprawling single player campaigns with a ton of content and ways to shake up your gameplay loop, but even on the most basic bitch level every game was expected to have an arcade mode where every character had some kind of barebones story, a cohesive lore, and a nice variety of difficulty

these days there's a general understanding by devs that no one actually gives a shit about single player in fighting games and that they shouldn't waste resources on it. personally i think they're fucking wrong and way more newcomers could get into fighting games if single player wasn't so fucked where every story mode was either totally cinematic where gameplay didn't matter at all or completely phoned in without even text only dialogue between arcade fights

DO4 survival mode is a great time solo
>>
>>723697567
Some recent games lack some of the most basic "fight the other characters" modes.
SFV released without an arcade mode, and survival mode was an unfun slog that only existed to justify that you could totally earn fight money there
Tekken7 has no VS-CPU mode for absolutely no reason. It's got arcade mode and treasure unlock mode, but you can't just go to VS and fight against a CPU contolled fighter at will.

Some of 6th and early 7th gen (before online fully took over) games have great single player modes, like VF4EVO and VF5 quest modes
Also you could get some heavy mileage from just labbing a game if you're into it, especially with tag fighters
>>
>>723695505
Yes, it used to be required to unlock characters actually
>>
playing arcade mode is the only way I like fighters, could be because i'm white and online g=fighters are for browns. But doa and soul calibur are just peak.

No, usually the content is lacking and the AI is usually too poorly made to be interesting to fight
Fighting games are cool when you get to interact with another person, know what the options are and actually play around it, there's no better feeling than recognizing a habit from your opponent and exploiting it
>>
>>723695505
It's fun

Run SoulCalibur III, go into options, change the difficulty to "extremely hard," go into soul arena, choose quick play, pick Cassandra and then just spam 236K 66A against AI. Replace 66A with 236B when near the edge for ringouts. You can clear it with no rounds lost this way.
>>
i like playing against bots to practice confirming combos that i can then feel better about going for in multiplayer
