Realistically is this where the series peaked?Every other game is either bad (new horizons) or stuck on a console with an annoying gimmick (dual screens or motion control)
What it needs is a decomp PC port with mod support. Then we'll have the ultimate Animal Crossing.
>>723774025were halfway there, we might get one pretty soon
>>723775016>halfway thereHuh?
imagine if women never discovered animal crossing.
the hd texture mod requires you to be on discord. no way am i ever making a discord account
wild world was the last good animal crossing game
wild world is better in every way
>>723778864city folk was literally WW HD thoughever
>>723779019i hated having to used the wiimote
>>723779110yah, pointing at the screen and the constant ui popping in was annoying, but it wasnt horrible or anything
>>723779157it wasnt comfy enough. i would emulate it but im too stupid to figure out how to emulate the wiimote properly lol.
No every installment built upon it predecessor playing the switch game is significantly better than on gamecube
>>723779110>>723779157Funny how such a bad feature end up being the one feature the best version in the emulated version. Instead of the wiimote, it use your mouse
>>723779226nigga you just use your mouse>>723779242>the switch game is significantly better than on gamecubehere's your (you), go away
>>723779286ok ill try it out later then. i hope its not difficult because i assume you have to switch between the wiimote and a controller.
>>723773221Population: Growing, Wild World, and City Folk are all good, just different from one another. The dual screen and wiimote control gimmicks are nowhere near as annoying as people make them out to be, especially with a series like Animal Crossing that doesn't require fast reaction times or precision control.New Leaf set the ground work for everything wrong with the series in current day. It started to rewrite the Animal Crossing fundamentals and made way for the total overhaul that was New Horizon. Animal Crossing stopped being a life sim where you moved into a new, unknown world and became friendly with the locals into your own personal sandbox where you get to play god with the lives of its inhabitants. Everyone is nice to you non-stop, villagers can no longer make their own decisions and cannot leave your island without your input, the facilities are completely at your mercy, and even the very ground itself can be terraformed to your will. It is basically The Sims: Furry Edition now.And because it came out at the exact right time (right when everyone became locked inside their homes for 9+ months), it gained an artificial boost in popularity and sales since people had nothing better to do, giving Nintendo all the wrong information and ensuring the franchise will stray further and further from what made the original entries so special.>N64/GCN, DS, WiiYou live in their world.>3DS, SwitchThey live in your world.
>>723773221Nah, Wild World was better. The Episodes were a natural progression of mechanics and added a fucking ton to the game.
catching bugs with the wiimote can be a pain in the ass, everything else is acceptablet. person who started a city folk town not too long ago
>>723779919I did it drunk and caught a bee, git gud
this is basically animal crossing but with magic
>>723775885decomp is half, port is the other
>>723781308forgot picture
>>723773221I really liked new leaf, the island trips with randoms were fun
>>723779110>i hated having to used the wiimotethis and grass degradation, besides that, is Wild World with some additional content.
>>723773221Less is more. There's the obvious jank but the restrictiveness of your role (like an actual resident) feels more fitting. To say nothing of the localization's "less friendly" tone compared to the later entries.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YaOeX76DzK0
>>723781512Back when Nintendo of America was kino and hadn't gone full retard
that animal crossing deluxe mod is pretty impressive, and they just keep adding more and more shit to it. I hope eventually we get a pc port and this works with it, that would be like, the ideal animal crossing experience https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oSmlCC0pRD4
>>723781692>Updates and download on the discordWhy
>>723781945discord is the current day "forums" and nobody sane wants to use plebbit
>>723782014Discord is not a forum lolForums do not light up like a Christmas tree with notifications forcing you to turn everything off
>>723782249i meant like the subsections and more subsections in those and stuff including the available search bars etc
>>723781692upload the mod to mediafire or something
>>723782324forums had much more refined search systems and you could browse most topics without an account unless it was private. discord servers force you to create an account and interact real time with freaks. it was much better when people actually thought about their posts and these forums were actually useful even to outsiders. car forums still are used and the top results for searching things like error codes with older cars
>>723773221I hate how much they leaned into customization with each installment. I just want to be a random villager in a town that can change without my say in the matter. Not some omnipotent god that can terraform the land around me and decide who gets to stay or leave my village. The virtual dollhouse aspect should have stayed that way but I guess im just not the target of these games anymore. A shame there really isnt much in the way of alternatives.
>>723782608>forums had much more refined search systemsIn what way?
>>723782650I think the customisation is a good feature but I agree there needs to be less player agency. Adding ramps and bridges is cool but the villagers should add stuff too, and I’d personally time gate the customisations too so a bridge takes a month to build for exampleBut the problem with NH is that you can decorate but not interact with stuff. If someone modded in the old dialogues and behaviours into that game it would improve it hugely. The other major thing is that more items need to be interactive. Being able to throw a ball is not hard to add, and I don’t remember if you could kick the soccer ball either. There are so many items neither you nor the villagers will interact with, it sucks
>>723783827One neat thing NH did do is that some furniture you put outside would affect what villagers carried around, it was neat seeing more villagers carry around soda cans after putting down a soda machine. The game needs more small stuff like that to make it feel more alive.
>>723782014Just add a link to the MEGA folder in the video description, or the forum post that they made in the belltreeforums, what do they even win with that?
>>723773221new leaf is the best animal crossing, sucks there wasnt one for the wiiui liked main street
>>723785162please go away.
>>723781350Plus you could date bitches
>>723773221I'd say soThe Gamecube one had a wonderful air of mystery and wonder about it, something that none of the other games have come close to recreating
>>723785267dont be mad just because im right
>>723773221>Realistically is this where the series peaked?Yes. Rest gradually sucked the soul out of the series.
>>723781692is this mod actually good?
here you go>https://files.catbox.moe/7xit3e.xdelta
>>723785962Someone click on it for me im scared
>>723786004its ok, we'll click it together
>>723784876Yeah they could have added more stuff like that in updates but they were greedy and lazy
>>723779591I agree feels bad man
I did not care for New Leaf.>>723773221Yes
>>723773221yeah
>>723782014Forums aren't any better>Click to enlarge>YOU MUST BE LOGGED IN TO DO THAT
GC Animal Crossing is literal perfection. It's almost too comfy.Plus you can dig up an NES library and play them in-game (except for Punch-Out, SMB, and Zelda, you need special codes or e-cards).
>>72377959199% correct but I'd say New Leaf is a midpoint between "you live in their world" and "they live in your world". I'm tired of people giving New Leaf a pass and then shitting on New Horizons when many of the things wrong with NH bar durability and lack of content started with NL.>>723773221Absolute retard. GCN is fine to an extent but it lacks a lot of QoL changes that WW adds and also the neighbours are actually unbearable. I understand wanting the neighbours to be a bit more rude or blunt at times, but the GCN villagers are outright criminals. I stopped talking to most of mine because they'd either try to sell me some garbage for 10,000+ bells, repaint my roof without my permission or would mug me for my items. Genuine crooks and vandals.
>>723791509God forbid they want you to interact and not just drive by take things that are hosted thereThe only issue with registration is it took too long, they should have asked for email and user and it should take 2 secs to register. Every “security” feature added to verify you makes these services awful
I started with New Leaf. Were the old games really that better? I was considering playing the one for Gamecube.
>>723773221The DS game was by far the best. But yeah, the machine it's stuck on is also terrible.
>>723794987>go to register>"ok now write an essay about why unwashed scum like you should be allowed in our presence and do the hokey pokey backwards"
>you now remember a time when you were a kid and woke up on a chilly winter morning and fired up AC to see what new items nook had
>>723796518
>>723796518>you now remember the sound of the rain matching the rain in game
>>723795534I couldn't handle it. The rolling map with that pixelization gave me a headache.
>>723796518>"yes! another red snapper!"
Animal Crossing should add watches, their only purpose is to change the date/time display style, for digital watches it switches to a backlit version when it's nighttime, or indoors with the lights off.
>>723778864True
>>723778864>the game that ruined every single holiday and tried to make up for it with made up shit in between>the game that introduced the gay rolling log world>the game that introduced grass degradationno
>>723775016Two more weeks.
>>723781692>they just keep adding more and moreBloat. Should've only added widescreen and modern camera.
>>723781945From the dev: "Guess I should state this clearly:## Animal Crossing Deluxe is **not** going to stay as a Discord-only release. It's published through Discord for the time being because it's still being actively developed with new content and bugfixes releasing frequently. I don't want people thinking the mod is done. If you're playing the patch atm you're opting into "early access", if you will. Once I'm satisfied with the state of the mod I will release it on an easily accessible external website for downloads."
>>723798037Yes
Iso for a prepatched version of the gamecube animal crossing with all the things in pic addedhttps://files.catbox.moe/ouhbid.iso
>>723795364Rather than better they were drastically different. Instead of micromanaging every aspect of the game you had no control over the town and had to won over the villagers over time. Even the tagline of the games used to be "the life game that’s happening every minute of every day weather your playing or not"https://youtu.be/YaOeX76DzK0
Any downgrades from wild world to city folk?I head the dialogue is worse.
>>723804896Grass deterioration
>>723804896having to use the wii mote
>>723805010Is that it?
>>723804516i just started it up and the character is now black :(
>>723785689I've been playing it, it's good. AC GameCube with quality of life features and e reader content built in. The free camera feels natural.
>>723805642>picI don't get it. Is he a jew?
>>723793893>lack of contentThis is an absolutely damning issue which greatly outweighs any of the other flaws. Especially for a game like Animal Crossing.
>>723796518actually I was fired up to shake every single tree in town and sell the fruit before my brother or sister could do it
new horizons feels cold and sterile and i dont know why. maybe its the color palette? i just hope the next animal crossing doesnt have crafting or terraforming or breakable items and is actually finished.
>>723808970Maybe it's the plastic texture that everything has
>>723809169it does look very shiny which i kind of hate.
https://youtu.be/7AyEzA5ziE0I genuinley think something like an LLM would be perfect for Animal Crossing. People have been complaining about villagers having too few lines or losing their personalities through monotonously having the same lines or mannerisms too closely with other villagers of the same personality class. If each villager had their own character card they could adhear to slight or subtle differences in their overall personality while keeping the general prompts the same. Assuming all this is baked into a single executable game file I wouldn't expect the player to fine tune any models, but I think it'd be reasonable for some controls to be given such as adjusting temperature (how varied vs safe responses get) or general tone (maturity, kindness vs bluntness or realistic negative emotions).Just imagine it>villagers recall former conversations and your feelings/inputs on them>mail isn't just a copy and pasted response but actually thought out and appropriately built upon with responses>town billboard posts are actually read and factored into daily conservation and contexts>even if multiple people group chats can't be done, having villagers communicate and share information in the background to simulate spreading information will add livliness to each otherI know the feelings many have regarding LLMs and generative AI especially with AAA game studios, but if it were handled correctly it could lead to the most immersive and cool Life Sim experience the likes of which we have yet to realize.
>>723810627Yeah idk about that. i would prefer a human does the work.
>>723804896dialogue is fine, anyone telling you it got neutered is retarded
>>723811329Yeah but the villagers don't call you a niggerfaggot and then stab you in the ribs which is gay
>>723811586instead they laugh at your micropenis
>>723811294To be clear, I am specifically talking about the dialog. The assets like models, music and textures are still manmade. The characters would also be written by the creator and many, many sample dialogs would still be written to keep the tone and mannerisms consistent. The only thing the LLM is writing is the output text from any nonplayer character that isn't performing specific tasks (shopkeeping, etc)If you still feel that way, then fair, but I'm really excited for the potential I might work with on this one day.
>>723776518i'll forever hate the chinese flu for this
>>723782650it became a roastie franchise anon, accept it
>>723798037>the game that let you fish up a sharkYes.
>>723798037>>the game that introduced the gay rolling log worldI will never understand this complaint>WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH THE GAME RUNS FASTER NOW AND I DONT HAVE TO LOAD IN AN ACRE, THIS IS AWFUL>WAAAAAAAAAAH NOW I CAN KIND OF SORTA SEE UNDER TREES, ITS RUINED
>>723782014>nobody sane wants to use plebbitSanity also includes not wanting to use discord
>>723810627We all know where that would head. People will either use it to ERP with their villagers or to make them quote Hitler
>>723804896>Any downgrades from wild world to city folk? You get that shitty eyesore of a city.
>>723814625you get the fountain though, which lets you meet random villagers
>>723773221I miss some parts of /acg/The GCN version wasn't awful but I think the villagers were too mean. There needs to be a better balance between complete jackass and soulless NPC.
>>723781321If you think Decomp = getting a PC Port soon, Paper Mario 64 fans have some bad news for you.
>>723804516haven't they added the watering can by now, or did you use an old patch? I'm pretty sure that feature list is a few months old
>>723815780oh I'm very aware, and very sad about that. I just was clarifying that's what that guy meant by being "halfway" there. albeit only in terms of tasks completed, definitely not in terms of time remaining.
>>723815780PM64 has some good romhacks so we're not really that miffed about the lack of any work on the PC port.
>>723816259Theres a mod that makes the mechanics and badges more like tTYD I have yet to try but would like to
>>723817996TTYD64? It's amazing, definitely my favorite PM64 hack at the moment. I just wish the randomizer option changed more than just blocks, chests, and enemy holds. Also there's an NPC in Toad Town that changes the music back to the original instead of the poorly made TTYD midi remixes thankfully.
GC always had this weird feeling that the animals treated you like an outcast for being human, which they obviously never brought back.
>>723816259I haven't played any pm romhacks before, any suggestions? the only one I'm really aware of is mq, and I'm waiting for 2.0 before trying it out (which I know will take forever)
>>723773221Dont know. Didn't have a game cube. Liked the one on ds.
>>723773221>>723778864i actually disagreei think that the softer the series is, the better; i want people a place to return to when reality fucking hurts, and the more customization the better
>>723818476Ooh good to know, thanks. I fuck with randomizers but never tried a PM one. Cheers
When will nintendo give us animal crossing gc on nso
New Leaf had the perfect map design with Main Street and train travel. My wish list for the next games:>ditch the island and crafting>villager dialogue gets betterIf they do just these two things then they’ll be most of the way there. I kinda liked terraforming enough to want it back, but only because I hated the default island layouts. If they can make nice looking defaults for the next game then I won’t miss it. I like being able to move the buildings too.
